App keeps getting updates but things stay broken. I moved to Ally bank specifically for the spending buckets feature. in app it is extremely laggy, not user friendly, and half of the time I can't even fill buckets from unbucketed spending which is grayed out. where else do you expect me to pull from?? not to mention that the surprise savings "feature" just pulls from all of my pre-budgeted buckets. "$20 left unallocated for the month? Let's Pull $25/week from any random bucket just cause"
Do not bank with these people. They are absolutely incompetent including the supervisors and offer no solutions after their mistakes tie up your money. They will hold and keep your money for up to a week based on their own mistakes and tell you sorry the whole way through. I've spent hours on the phone with Ally reps for the simplest issues. While they are indeed a growing bank, the level of customer service is abysmal and you will feel it on the day you need access to your account the most.

I "HAD" $100 free overdraft protection. I moved a LOT of money through Ally and overdrafted quite a few times, but always move a LOT more money through and bringing my balance to a good positive balance. After YEARS of doing this and moving more money through Ally, they decided they don't want my business anymore. After overdrafting for the 200th time, they locked my debit card because of a negative balance. Ally, that's the way you want to do me after all these YEARS??? I get your point. Bye
I really love buckets. But with the most recent update the FIRST time you distribute money between buckets the app orders them by balance. Subsequent distributions following the your sorting preference. First, you should follow the sorting I set in the account view. I have that order memorized, don't make me hunt for things. If you refuse to do that, at least make it consistent for each time I transfer money. Perfect example of people who do not use the product making "improvements".

"Ally loyalty perks rolling out to the app soon!". Well, ummmmm, how are supposed to be able to use them IF WE CANNOT LOG INTO YOUR BUGGED OUT & TERRIBLE APP!!
New user. Was hoping for bug fixes based on reviews but mine won't open...and I kinda need this so.. please fix now. Ty! STILL NOT FIXED. 4/30/26
cant even use it. says verify number on other screen but wont show that screen until after closing the current verification screen. Useless! send verification text or something that actually works!
the app. SUCKS. the website keeps forcing you to use the app. DONT EVEN TRY TO HAVE YOUR NAME ON MORE THAN ONE ACCOUNT!!!!!!!! As great as ally is. they have some idiots developing their apps and website.
Get absolutely no help from customer service. Any issue I have ends up being hours upon hours on the phone before ever finding the 1 person that can or will help. And that's if you get lucky and find that person. Every issue has been created between them and merchants systems communicating and has cost me multiple full days of being on the phone between the 2 to get issues solved. Ally does NOT put the customer first. UPDATE: Sent email based on their response to this review. No response there.
AVOID THIS BANK AT ALL CAUSES! They will close your accounts for literally no reason. After filing a dispute and providing evidence, it took three months and then they decided to close my accounts for fraudulent intent, which is 100% false. This bank will make you look like a criminal and will side with the merchant. They are not your Ally. Please do not join this bank for the sake of your mental health.
customer service is terrible
WELP. Finally have consistent UI throughout the whole app. Still no way to explicitly set Light/Dark mode. I've genuinely lost track of how many years it has been. Joke of an app. And no I'm not calling you.

Update ruined app. Fixed it by restarting my device everything works now but what a waste of time trying to figure it out. Bad app
I fell for the marketing. Ally positions itself as a progressive, digital-first bank, but the reality is a total disaster. The app interface looks like it was designed in 2005-it’s clunky, non-intuitive, and full of bugs. To make matters worse, their savings rates are no longer competitive compared to other online banks. When I realized the service was subpar and tried to move my money out, Ally’s response was to lock my account. They want me to verify that my wealthfront account is mine.
The app never works. When they were OllO it was great. Now I can't even get it to open after reinstalling several times. Then the people you speak with at the company are awful. Not happy at all. Ally is a horrifically bad company. After 4 years of no new card ever sent, app never working, website crashing constantly, horrible customer service, I finally closed this disgusting account. I will probably frame the letter they send me that this nightmare is finally over.
worst online bank their is. takes German forever to wire money, verify anything and get help. very disappointed.
Biometrics are once again not functioning on Pixel 10 phones.

I can't even open the app. Its does the Ally animation and then crashes. No updates have helped. Uninstalling and reinstalling doesn't work.

Ally blocked my access to the funds I deposited ever since I created the account. They will not let me withdraw. pretty sure this is a scam. edit: I saw your reply and felt it was important to add ive already tried to go through customer service twice now !!!
This in reguard to an auto loan: This app is horrible, type in my username and password and it wants to verify it's me by calling or texting my phone (that makes a lot of sense since I've typed all my information in).. Well after several attempts of selecting text and call.... No text or call, even "opted" in a few different times, still nothing happens as far as a call or text. It would be great if whoever developed this app would, I don't know maybe fix the bugs with it.
Stay away!!! I had them for checking and savings. They restricted my account after a company took a payment above agreed upon. Since, it has been a nightmare for over a month. You get routed to people who can never help. The department that I need to speak with refuses to talk to people. It's a "Sorry, but not sorry" situation. I have late fees and return fees from all of my cards now. I cannot use my account to buy gas or food but they can take my direct deposit. They want money. I'm switching!
doesn't allow same day transfers. Does not provide a digital card when you're waiting for a new one.
