Ad scamming. after you watch the Ad it goes back to the last scene so you have to fast forward it and watch another Ad to get back to where you left off.

I signed up in Nov 2025. At the beginning it worked fine when I cast to my Chromecast. App stopped casting to Chromecast since about March 2026. Tried everything including factory reset Chromecast and reinstalled app. None worked. Now it just shows HBO Max logo with a circle below it that keep circling until times out and TV goes back to Chromecast display. Nothing from HBO Max app plays on my TV. YouTube app casts to Chromecast just fine.
Ad free isn't really ad free. App had constant problems with loading even on wired connections. Doesn't work on all Chromecast.
doesn't update
When you use the app on your phone or tablet or anything other then aa TV you can not read the show or movie summary. There is no way to show the full paragraph typed and it is supper annoying. I have to go out of my way to Google to understand what a show or movie is about.
Why is it no longer allowing pinch to zoom on Android? It was working just fine on the last update.

Jag har ju betalat för ett år och när jag betalade fanns det ingen reklam, jag borde inte tvingas att betala igen för att få slippa reklam fram till abonnemanget går ut och ska förnyas. Lagt kort borde ligga. I paid the subscription when there was no ads and now I have to pay again to get rid of the annoying ads? This is BS.
does not install or update
I really dont like it after the new upgrade. even when you pay for the service you still have to watch at least 3 ads in the begining of the movie and you get at least one ad break (3+ ads) in the middle of watching, i personally got 2 ad breaks with 4+ ads each! i dont recommend.
I truly wish this app allowed "zoom to fill" when viewing on smartphones. Like almost every other streaming service. Update: the function previously mentioned IS now available! Thank you for adding. Definitely 5 stars now!...update: 5/5/2026...so after last update. zoom to fill has been removed. you guys suck!!!!
I usually love HBO max, but they removed almost all Scooby-Doo movies, i don't know why? I'm paying this for my favorite movies being removed for no reason? Why don't you guys let the movies there?
will not open since new update
This is the worse app for streaming movies and tv. The app constantly blacks out or you get a black screen where you can hear it but see nothing. The app also constantly crashes and when it does it causes our tv to reboot. The crashing and blacking out usually occur at the begining when you click a show but will sometimes occur while watching something.
I literally just paid for the I literally just paid for the subscription and they make it so complicated to open and just watch they sent me around three emails and I had asked me to pay more Euros and the app itself does not work anymore I mailed them please give me my mail my money back and I promise you I will never download this app again
Don't they boast about having the DC universe? Even so, they removed animated films like "ww bloodlines" or "JL Dark: apokolips war" overnight. What kind of streaming service is this? They were here yesterday, and today they're gone. And hbo can't even issue an official statement listing the titles they're removing. I hope they return them. DC is the reason why people buy ur streaming service.
It's fully updated and won't even show subscription options! You have to use the website on your phone to see these! Cowboy app!
Why have a download option of you can't access downloads offline??
I've had HBO Max app for quite awhile now, but on April 22, 2026 it has stopped working on my ROKU device that I use to watch these apps. Now I can no longer watch anything on HBO Max and am very upset about this problem. I hope that you fix your video streaming app . So I guess I'm saying that I am upset with your video app.
Won't allow in downloading contents using an external storage, phone and tablet's internal storage is always full, you need to be considerate, can't watch downloaded contents as an error message keeps on appearing that there is a problem with your device setup, waste of time and money.

keeping 4k streaming locked to only your premium plan is unacceptable! it need to be on every option of your streaming plans.

The app wouldn't start without being updated. So during my short break instead of enjoying the service I'm paying for, I had to wait for the app to update.

Apparently it's not an ad if they put it at the start of the show. Paying extra for ad-free and still getting ads every episode is pretty lame.
The DRM Sucks

paying for this app and not getting it
I got charged twice for the standard subscription, the one that costs around €10. I also can't find any help section in the app. The shows they have are good, but they need to add a help feature.

The exact same 3 Instagram ads play in the exact same order every single ad break, no matter the show, and it's maddening. The app overrides your screen controls, so you can't mute ads on a tablet. I can't upgrade to ad free because it's part of my DirecTV package, and the price increase wouldn't be worthwhile because 70% of the content is insipid junk. The WB-Discovery merger has significantly diluted the HBO-Max brand because of the influx of vapid and shallow RealityTV trash.
sort out the sports experience I don't want to speak to an advocate, fix the app to provide the service we pay for, rather than consistently seeking to drive down your costs - pay developers.

Works when you first add then the min you pause it just dnt start again ,or suddenly it continuously starts buffering so i had to uninstall then reinstall,seems you just can't pause or after watching a couple hrs same again happens ,I went away used the app on a different tv make same thing happens ; freezes with constant buffering ; so it is definitely a tv app issue as on a mobile app it is fine !!!
