This apps stinks, no surprise here. I thought that India has come out of the stone age as far as technology is concerned!?!

if you are not from India it is about as bad as applying for the visa, the official app has ads, crashes, charges to make an account and just links to the website for bookings that are just a 50+ person wait-list. (you can't even book) and makes you verify multiple times you can't even use your foreign cards effectively. for slightly more cost I would just do Uber
The ads are very disruptive to usage of the app. The app is useful for finding route numbers and schedules (which days of the week a service runs on), but not for much else. RailYatri and IxiGo apps are much more informative and usable compared to IRCTC app.
