I miss what memrise used to be like 10 years ago
I love this app but the videos of people speaking aren't loading for the mandarin course and it makes it practically unusable :(
the app has amazing content, gotta give it credit for it, bought paid version without hesitation. However, after ~10 levels it became unusable, because every second review session (and sometimes every session) is not stored on the server and I have to re-review the same words multiple times. Happy to change back to 5* if the bug is fixed.

CAUTION - LANGUAGE COURSES SIMPLY EXPIRE! Bought a LIFE TIME LICENSE not long ago - especially to learn a community based language (but also other languages). After the "update" (02/2024) my lessons, thousands of xp and the possibility to learn my favorite community based language completely disappeared. NO WARNINGS before! NO CHANCE to bring it back! 😞 Also very annoying: Unlike other apps, there's no way to save the streak. Missed just one day, and everything's back to zero. 😞

Terrible
I loved this app so much I purchased a lifetime membership. it took me from rank beginner to level B1. But now I can't access my lessons, so it's fairly useless. I haven't gotten any response from customer service even though I have tried in a variety of ways to get in touch with them. I would love for it to be functional again, but if that is not possible I want my money back! I would love a response from the developer.
worst app
The app stopped with all those features like "Learn with locals" or "Pronunciation practice" or "Review words". All I can do is learn new words. And it's been two weeks since I'm trying to reach out to support but no one is answering. I probably left 5 messages if not more!
Came back to reduce my rating to one star because everytime I report issues, they still don't get solved months later. Previous review: 👇🏾 I like that it has colloquial phrases and not just textbook phrases. however, it has mistakes that I noticed on some things I already knew and that makes me question if there were mistakes on concepts that I am unfamiliar with. Makes me not trust the app. For Urdu, videos don't even load for many phrases.
With every update the app is only getting worse... First it stopped working offline, and after I've updated it this morning it no longer starts at all (loading screen → app gets closed). Can I just get back the old one from 2015 already? It was pperfect as it used to be, ugh.. The worst part is that Memrise was IMO the only adequate app on the market for studying multiple languages. And what do you mean now "full course is only for pro users"? It was never the feature or "course" of [Memrise]...
Latest version (2026.04.07) breaks the 'next lesson' section (it's completely gone) and so there's no way to start the next lesson and continue learning. Reverted to 2026.03.24. Edit: Same issue in 2026.04.15 so I can only assume this is intentional. 🙄
Buggy. Paid for lifetime version. After tapping in the give feedback box in the app my lessons no longer appear. All I have access to are word lists with no access to the lessons. The only alternative was to use the website.
Why did you change my lessons tab to vocabulary, where did my lessons go?
The app has removed it's primary feature: one can no longer introduce mnemonics for the words, neither see the existing ones. Very strange decision. Migrated to Anki.
I returned to Memrise after 5 years to learn Portuguese and just found out all of the community courses are removed and users are forced with only their sloppy courses which absolutely terrible and is heavily advertised to users to upgrade to premium. Its horrible, the platform was based around the community and flexibility. They totally ruined it now.

Generally good but in the last 2 days my lessons have disappeared from the home page, all that is showing now are the "My Words" and "My journey" section leaving a big area of empty space right to the bottom of the screen. I hope someone is looking to fix this as without the lesson pathway it's worthless...

I just don't like you haven't incorporated the community courses. please please bring them to the app or update them, or make a separate app for them. those were my favorite part of the app

There is no way to mark options as incorrect or flag errors. Within my very first Spanish lesson I was told I was wrong for translating "que tal" as what's up despite that being the translation I was given. Also constantly trying to shove ai down your throat
ok.. So half of the Learning system is pro? Thats kinda terrible.. Because why is the pro included the "Thank you,bless you"!? (learning french) and foods too.. So I'm only going to know baguette and creme brulee? Like if i came to france and going to a restaurant without knowing the menu and i will just stand there doing nothing then im an idiot... Like PLEASE remove pro to some needed words (im not saying that to remove pro fully). But its a nice app tho.. I learn some basic words.

I have a lifelong membership so I am stuck, or else I would have deleted this app. There used to be a list where you could add sentences you want to practice more (difficult words). It still exists but its now useless as Memrise keeps on removing from this list, totally on their own. This is invasive, condescending and ridiculous. I emailed but was replied this is how it works now and they cannot change it.
even though the app is built quite okay, the approach to learning a language is extremely poor. grammar is not explained at all and they jump to things which without grammar does not make any sense - therefore you are not really learning. The inbuilt Ai does not work properly especially during 'building useful stances'. From quite a few lessons I have done, I did not memorise or remember any words. All in all - don't spend your money. Go to proper school.

The lessons have you repeat the same word four times, but there aren't enough other words mixed in. It's easy to repeat a word you've just seen four times. It's harder to repeat it ten minutes later. There is no explanation whatsoever of grammar or declension, so not really useful.

When you've started amassing thousands of words of vocab you will have too many words to review than which is feasible. 4. When you learn the vocab for a video, for some reason the video disappears afterwards without ever having watched the video.
I was using the app for barely a week before it updated, now im having the same problem as other users! 😭 I reported it as a bug originally but got no response... I found the experience on the website to be better, but its still not the same. this would honestly be a 5 star review if they would just change everything back
i used to love this app. then its updated and now none of the lessons are set out the same. i hate it now.
it was good but recently all the lessons are gone and it only shows "my words" and "my journey". I've noticed other users have the same problem as well.
Words reads the woman with a deep neckline, so translation appears right on her beebs skin. Very irrigated. Repeating mechanic is broken - excessive number of repeats at first encounter and 0 repeats later.
The app is really buggy. I wasted money on a subscription. The videos sometimes take a very long time to load or don't load at all even on a good Internet connection. The lesson where you have a conversation with a bot/AI is very very basic and almost useless. The first option is always the right option and if you enter anything else, the app breaks. Overall, it needs a lot of improvement. Definitely not worth paying for it.
sign up for life time package. initially look decent but now unable to watch videos. also find topics and AI practises do not correlate. they ask us to upgrade a better platform but it's been 2 weeks and still nothing happens... further feedback - u upgraded the software to have option for exam oriented. I selected option but does not have language I want. tried return to original package but cannot. what's going on?!
I've had memrise in the past and had no issue. I redownloaded it and got the pro lifetime membership and now I can't add a language to start learning. hopefully this is just an update issue.
The app was great a few years ago with the updates then. Since then they just over done it. You make one mistake, get to the test prep section and you cannot get back to main lessons. The "forgot" Password is worthless. The system will shoot out an email for any address. This is pointless if you want to know what address you signed up with, will make you sign up for new account that way. How do I get the app/site to stop asking me what test prep am taking? Just want to get back to my Greek.
No exam to examine my current knowledge about the language before proceeding?
