I'm not sure what's going on with this app, but the adverts I've been getting in it have been very gross and scammy. like - 'FINAL NOTICE - Your QR scanner is out of date' and 'ACTIVE YOUR ACCOUNT NOW' just stuff like that trying to trick you into clicking on it.

No doubt that it's a good app. Bit complicated typical of a german development house, it's a learning curve. why 1 star if you value your privacy, as what you do on your phone. you will be horrified to know, the amount of data this app collects & the never ending list of cookie based data collection. you will stop using this app immediately. I am happy with this app to certain point, but I have to buy a cheap android phone just for this only. I will never install this on my phone that I use
Highly advise to not support this app because of their shady donation system.
started using and enjoying app to track walks and suggest to friends. Now has deleted all the data. shows I have tracks as a number but going into it, empty. Pretty useless that.
I hate this app. even when the app is closed the navigation sounds continues until I rest my phone. Tried a different phone, same issue. Now want to cancel my subscription but cannot see a way to do so. Thankfully the card details they have has expired so hopefully the renewal will fail.
not free
Tried to create a login and it says invalid email format: contains a - and @ ridiculous!
you offer Bosnia but not Croatia? what?
I used to be able to download routes to my watch and navigate with it. Now the watch app has no options and must be connected to the phone at all times, also if you reopen the app on your phone whilst navigating it just ends navigation. Absolutely lame now.
it is really hard to use, it's lagging and makes literally no sense...
I have left withering OA feedback in the past and as a Viewranger victim I still feel it was justified. That said, a ubiquitous kneejerk bad review cannot be justified in perpetuity so I have moderated it. I freely acknowledge that I have access to my paid-for maps, but it's not like having the tiles of old. maybe it's me but The App is still unintuitive rubbish as far as I'm concerned. Why did you have to bury a blue chip app like Viewranger? It was and remains indefensible and unforgiveable.
Unable to login. Keeps saying AppleID is wrong but I'm trying to use Facebook to sign in on a Samsung phone. Says the same even when I try using my email address. Absolutely useless!
Overcomplicated, lack of many basic features. They ask you to upgrade to Pro for basic features, but who will do it, if it is so overcomplicated? Dropped it and switched to other more user friendly app. Sorry.
Destroyed or hid all of my 59 bike routes that I made since ViewRanger. They were transferred in an earlier version, & had worked. Now I login, 0 routes, & I suspect are now hidden behind an extortion pay wall. Uninstalling & never looking back. Organic Maps is now my go-to!!!!! It has GPX routes, & I was able to import my saved GPX routes from my backups from ViewRanger. Don't waste your time with Outdooractive! Goodbye & good riddance!
You cannot do anything unless you buy a subscription, basic map aswell. You would at least expect some options as a free user, but everything here is pay walled! I uninstalled immediately
Bring back Viewranger and the maps I bought. Edited to respond - Unfortunately they aren't still available though. I bought eastwest maps for all of Wicklow on Viewranger and these are gone and not available on outdoor active. Is there any solution? They cost about 60 euro at the time from memory.
Said it's free but it's not free
Immediate uninstall. Registration and cash required. Only politeness prevents me from posting my opinion on this app.
This app just isn't cutting it for me. I have had this app for a few years now but just cant get on with it. When I try and plot my own mountain bike or 4x4 routes it auto tracks back to a normal road, missing out byways and unclassified routes open to all traffic.
Paid for Premium - A week later almost unusable. Route plotting almost impossible in latest update. Would like refund.
Can't stand it anymore - trying to plan a route where the app' suddenly decides to ignore marked public footpaths or tells me there isn't a route and sticks in a straight line across the map, without my changing the settings, it's just exasperating! Have tried to work with this for months now but finally giving up abd probably going back to OS. l got this app' for it's additional features but it can't handle simple route planning at times, I've wasted my money.
There are much better apps for free. Basic usage is free, but many features require a subscription. And looking at the selection of advertisement choices made me delete this quickly.
Looks alright, but I really don't want a subscription. I'd rather but it outright.
Still, after all this time, nowhere near as good as Viewranger
When I started using this it was Viewranger, it was a bit clunky but it did what I wanted and did it well. The UI is still poor, plans/tracks/routes still seems an unintuitive way of working. Where is the import .gpx option now? And then there's the map search... Most of the time (80-90%) I have to find a place on Google maps then zoom in and find it manually on OA. More often it finds me 10 places with the same name nowhere near my search. A frustrating app with undeveloped potential.
They recently changed the plan route layout and now it adds a tab at the bottom when doing so which is really annoying. Previously the stats of km and accent would be illustrated at the top and the stick to footpaths button was on show at the bottom making planning a lot easier.
umständlich, umständlicher, Outdooractive app
user interface isn't intuitive toggling on and off the planning path following tool could be much much clearer
Route planning is awkward to use. it seems to always pick a long diversionary route. I have to add lots of way points. A zoom lock to 1:250000 for uk OS maps would be helpful, zooming out so I can see a reasonable area switches to 1:50000, which doesn't show paths so well.
Only just started using but seems tricky to navigate, can't quite get it to do what I want which is just planning a simple hike.
When used for a short period of time it causes rapid drainage of my battery and I run out of charge. I make sure it isn't running in the background and the only way to stop the drain is to reset my phone.
Now that standalone tracking has been removed from Wear OS, the app has lost its main advantage over other hiking apps for me. I will not be renewing my Pro subscription when it expires next month.
I don't like it. Viewranger was much better in my opinion. it's overlay complex. I don't trust it.
it's got all the maps you need, but the interface is so complicated. I search for a route from all the community members (fantastic, there's loads of them) but how the heck do I follow one. there are so many buttons to press, all very confusing. I expect, if you take ages to learn the interface, the app is great, but if you want to find a route and follow it, you need a PhD. there must be easier, cheaper options out there. tracks, plans, routes, my maps. who knows what I need to use. to hard.
Have used another nav app for the last couple of years after being disgruntled about the lack of features that used to exist in Viewranger. Checked back recently and it looks like OA is still using GPS for calculating elevation stats instead of a DEM/terrain model and interpolation. Why? Surely with LiDAR models the latter would be far better. Still can't lock scale at 1:25k either. Still no two decimal places for distance stats. Still no seconds shown in timings (important if you're a runner)
A classic case of if it ain't broke..what was a great app to work with creating route plans, now ruined by the last update. Simple swipe down mapping features now hidden away, the undo button also gone - for a multi-step process to do that 1 simple task. Why even change that, it worked & was efficient! Devs love playing around with stuff for no reason, try concentrating on the apps performance recognising routes & paths on different activities, not removing features which only infuriate users.
Absolutely terrible user interface. Any time I use it, it takes about 10 minutes to find what I am looking for. Needs to.be completely torn up and started again. Im sure there are plenty of good features, but they are ridiculously confusing to find.
My latest Track today showed a maximum height of 1257ft and a minimum height of 584ft. Statistics show a Total Ascent of 673ft. Very simple Math 1257 minus 584. The Total Ascent is obviously wrong because it hasn't taken into account all the other ups and downs. Incidently I'm still running Viewranger which recorded 2174ft. My legs tell me which one I believe. PLEASE SORT THIS INACCURATE RECORDING OF ASCENT OUT.
App keeps failing to save my tracks. Customer just tells me to uninstall to update the app then reinstall it.
nice enough app to start with but absolutely incoherrent interface. so many buttons and menu options that do nothing but jump to somewhere else. could not find the place in the interface to import plans/maps/routes or even distinguish between them.
