scammy, impossible to close credit builder account if you change your mind. no customer service
Doesnt take the money out right away when you make payments. So unless you regularly have money in your account, it very easily will turn into a massive credit loss and a lot of debt. The opposite of beneficial.
Chat bot only says "sorry, I can't process..." getting a response from a human has so far been nil.
I'm so tired of these cash advance apps and false advertising! You input your information and still get denied? If you are linking your bank and can show proof of employment and direct deposit then why do you still get denied? The ads are stating otherwise which is false advertising! Now when I try to delete the app I can't find how to do so. False advertising!
Do NOT use this SCAM app, you’ll never be able to close your account out and they eventually take your money and continue to charge you for money you shouldn't have to pay or owe. I can't even successfully stop or dispute this company on my credit!!!

I do not recommend self credit card. they overdrew my account by $300. user beware
I'm being charged and can't turn off service through the website. it says I don't have a credit card on file but is charging my account. It's impossible.

This app is a complete Scam, and this company overall is kind of a joke. Anyone who sees this and is about to join, plz listen, be aware of the shady moves pulled by self. Out left field the came and tried to say my identity wasn't verified yet when I offered to send them my info they declined and I'm yet to receive my $100 deposit back. There's way better opportunities and apps for people trying to build credit and I seriously suggest anyone looking to find one and stay far from Self.
Haven't been able to log into the app or website successfully in over a month. Plus, $200 wasn't credited to my account when I paid off my credit builder loan. Now my score has dropped tremendously.
can't get a hold of customer service. automative machine broken. repeats over and over doesn't give you a option to speak with live agent. One star for not reachable people to help.
you have to waith 24hours before you can take out another advance. Also, as an example ( if they offer you 50, next time they offer you a smaller amount)

1/30/26 it's glitching bad and I have payments to make.... 6/9/26 I thought if I waited long enough, plus seeing that bugs have gotten fixed, that this glitching bug would be done, but I just enabled and updated the app to see... but it's still messing up. Should I screen record what I'm seeing for you all? I miss easily going in my app
horrible horrible. I opened a builder account but because I opened it. it lowered my credit score and made it seem like I had an loan amount I had to pay off. bad very bad don't use
they will try to charge you multiple times before your due date, which in many people's cases will cause and ACH insufficient fund charge. which is exactly what they did to me twice. Then when you try to cancel the account, they will charge you $25. if is an absolute disgrace e and waste of both time and money. I recommend just setting your money on fire over using this company. at least then you know what you're getting.
The Credit score they say , I have is about a hundred and fifty points off
2025 / 2026 used a credit builder account with self, nothing but bad, would not recommend Don't waste your time my credit score did not increase I made My monthly payments on time for some reason I was charged a $45 fee call Dan reported it was told that it was going to be taken off put on by mistake, never was. never happened still paid $45 my score didn't increase not even one point . was charged high interest just for credit builder loan

they dont have a place where you can report your card lost or stolen ... its infuriating
very difficult to pay or add a new bank card. support does not really help much either. I was hoping for a better platform, something like what Chime offers.
I've had self for a few years now. They are the only credit card company who takes the full 5 days to release the money that you put on your card from your bank. They will try and claim that it's your bank who is delaying the authorization and to contact your bank but after you do this you learn it's actually self that's holding up the process.
Cant log in i get this error "Something went wrong, please try again later"
