it's clunky and slow to load. There's always 'news' or promotions that pop up when you first launch the app. when you're just trying to adjust the ambient sound control from on to off, the only way to do it with only the right ear bud in, it's an unnecessary pain. The app is enough to make me want to stop using the headphones but they were expensive and I can't justify swapping out perfectly good headphones because the software is frustrating.
App (or headphones) doesn't remember preferred Ambient Sound Control mode. I have to change it manually every time 😪

The absolute worst headphones app experience on the market. Every time you open it, it takes 15+ seconds to reconnect to your headphones, EVEN WHEN YOU'RE ALREADY CONNECTED, which you have to do constantly as the automatic source switching when connecting to multiple devices constantly bugs out and requires fixing to a given device in the app. This is a known issue and Sony refuses to improve on it. Save your time, money and patience, buy a different brand
the most user unfriendly login system that I encountered in many years. Previous versions before 2024 provided much more convenience for end-users like me.
poor app settings..need to always login while connecting..sony lost its charm..my 1000 XM4 sony headphone also not good in bass..wasted my money on sony..never in my life I will buy sony headphones again.

Audio quality is good, battery life is good, but those are the worst control settings I've seen in any headphones. I pressed a button to pause, a couple of seconds later pressed it again to resume playback, and it switches to the next episode! And I can't just keep the pause function, if I want to be able to pause things, I have to have this braindead track changing logic too. Even the cheapest Chinese buds allow to configure those things individually.
Fails headphone update every time. Partly because the update can take up to 40 minutes, which suggests someone should be fired.
speak to chat makes using these headphones such a painful experience - I don't need to be constantly notified about it and other status notification - and who thought to make the notifications louder than whatever I am listening to, it's incredibly disturbing - great headphones ruined by a poor interface
this app software sucks dosent let u customize the settings of earbuds like let me change the abient sounds setting ir make it where dosent go ambient when I dont want too where the turn off auto ambient at
Horrendous software for even worse hardware. All sony headphones have hinge problems and will break. sony has zero solutions in place to remedy the situation. if you just got these headphones and are about to install this app for them, return them while you still can. Absolute garbage.
have to turn off Speak to Chat setting every time the app updates because it doesnt remember the preference. Super annoying feature - want to sing along to your music... no, lets just pause it so you can break the vibe.

This is by far the worst app, asks you more information than a bank account, and just to use my earphones. Going back to Samsung, Sony sucks.
speak to chat always turning on is so irritating!! make it so it can be permanently turned off pls!!!! Now I've upgraded to the 5 and the app is missing vpt and the move ur speaker placement settings?? how do I get them back?..also no head tracking on Samsung note 20 ultra,is this coming?
I'm done with Sony. Recently had to buy a third pair of headphones because they stop working and you STILL can't change volume settings of the notification voice guide using this app. It is genuinely painful to have the voice suddenly cut in at 100% max volume. Sony does not care how many years people have been complaining about this issue. Will someone have to damage their ears permanently enough to go to court before such a basic feature is implemented? I'm done with Sony.
horrible, keeps crashing, always chooses the wrong device when two things are connected. eg when I pause media on my phone, it will switch to my laptop which is asleep and has no apps running. then when I play media on my phone again, it will stay on my laptop and do nothing unless I set it to choose and fix playback to my phone.
Love my XM4s Sort the speak to chat function out. I'm sick of having to turn it off everytime I turn my headphones on. It saves all other settings but not speak to chat. It used to save the setting unless you turned it on via touch controls. Why did you change it? Who knows but you are ruining the experience of having these headphones to the point of contemplating another manufacturer. Update 1-May-2026 speak to chat still constantly switching itself on. Time to ditch Sony.
Thoroughly inept and highly unstable software. Installing Bluetooth headphones took hours and now the phone freezes each time I get a call and has to be rebooted.
My headphones need an update that the app refuses to install. The app directs me here saying it needs to be updated to the latest version in order to install the latest headphone update but there is no app update to install. Total shambles. Tried everything.
This app has a single job, connect earbuds and it can not do that. Whoever was involved with this app is incompetent and needs to be fired.
So, I finally updated when the noise cancelling started making a whooshing noise and I had to disable it. Sadly updating didn't fix the issue and instead has created a crackling effect when linked to my pc rendering the headphones totally useless. Im still mad about speak-to-chat. Sadly Sony don't bother reading their reviews.I will never EVER buy Sony again

what the hell have you done. I used this since 2023 with no issues, but since the new update, no matter what I do, music sounds muffled again and just not...good? I dont know how to fix this and I'm very irritated. I don't know what they did but I'm having to have the volume up super high to even vaguely replicate what it was like before. I had my custom equaliser settings perfect for years and now it's all messed up :( it's like listening to music in another room.
Latest update for wh-1000xm5, support on web site is awful and hidden behind billion links so I am gonna save my time and ask for support here. I have several windows devices and all of them works fine with other Bluetooth headphones, and only with my favorite one they work terrible, can't regulate volume level, no sound before several headphones restart. It's just infuriating. upd: no support received, in addition to that latest updatr for xm5 is terrible, speak to chat resets overnight, rghhh

I used to love my WH-1000xm5 and WF-1000xm5s, but now they give me nothing but trouble. Now I open the app and it doesn't even connect to the headphones when they're already paired with my phone! It will randomly turn on speak to chat, which I have never once wanted to use ever, but it makes it so if your speaking, even in a phone call or video, all audio from the headphones is gone aside from your own voice or voices around you. There's a button for ambient sound alr I don't need this bs!!!

You still can't manually change the tap controls and have to use their presets. The hardware is 5 star worthy, but not being able to set what my double, triple taps do ON MY OWN makes this stupid app 1 star. I don't like their options AT ALL and want the ability to set what each taps do. You know, like other earbuds can do. And what I used to be able to do with their earbuds. It's been years now that I have been pissed about this but no changes. Sony doesn't want me buying another pair I guess.
it's not working for my android phone, it won't connect
Cannot update the app if still on Android 10. The app does not work and constantly asks for an update I cannot download. This prevents me from using fully the wf 1000xm6 I just bought :/
