SCAM ALERT 🚨!!
I’m beyond frustrated with Acorns at this point. My account has now been locked for the fourth time in one week for no clear reason, leaving me unable to access my money. Each time I’ve had to go through the same exhausting verification process, including PIN resets, push notifications, chats with support, and now uploading personal documents yet again.
After submitting the requested documents immediately, I was told it could take another full business day to review, despite this being an ongoing issue that has already happened multiple times. When I requested escalation to a regional or district manager, I was repeatedly told that was not possible.
I understand security is important, but repeatedly locking customers out of their own money without clear explanations, then forcing them into a 24+ hour waiting period every time, is unacceptable. The support agents were polite, but the process itself is exhausting, repetitive, and feels completely disconnected from the urgency of customers needing access to their funds. 😡

Their referral promotions are a scam.
I had a referral “promotion” where if I refer 3 people I got $975. I referred 3 people and was there when they signed up. They signed up on the same day. One was my mom. She is older so she forgot her password a few days later so she reset it. They counted her as a NEW sign up after resetting her password so instead of going for the promotion I sent; they counted her for the new one. So I ended up only getting 2/3 of the referrals. I contacted support.
The support person is Indian, does not understand what I’m trying to say. He finally gets it and says “it must be the system that is counting her for another promotion” and I said yes. Because I did not share any other promotions with her; and I was there when she signed up, so I know she did.
I -never- would have bothered helping her or the other 2 people sign up for a $5 reward.
Don’t waste your time.

U don’t need acorn to invest. Use fidelity and auto invest $5 a week if that’s all you can afford. Acorn is a scam to lure in people who don’t normally invest.

Lack of details, I’m lost.
My friend tried using me as a person to help him get that $900, but due to the app not telling me any details, I thought I was safe to cancel it after. Especially after telling me that the transactions were approved. Won’t even let me bring back my subscription. Confusing design.

They are genuinely such a scam. The referral does not work and I refered 5 friends, two of them never popped up on my portal this is so stupid and their customer service is useless too. Do not ever use this or trust them
Hidden Subscription
Just a heads up, their charges only show up as “subscription” on your bank statement with no details. I tried the service briefly, thought I cancelled, and ended up getting charged for 2 years without realizing it. It took months of dealing with my bank and multiple companies just to figure it out. Not cool. If you try it, double check your billing because it won’t clearly say what you’re paying for and since you connect a checking account it doesn’t show up in your “Apple Subscriptions”.

They sent me a “corrected” form so I had to amend my return and spend hundreds dollars more just to do so. They are the worst. I took my business somewhere else.

Shady practices.
They’ll charge you a pretty hefty fee and tell you that it doesn’t show up under your subscriptions or on the account but it’s the just cost of using their top tier services lol. Straight from customer support. Will be disputing the charge and reaching out to the BBB in hopes that I can protect other people from their shady practices. They know their app is aimed towards a certain audience. And they take full advantage of that. They are not here to help you grow your money. Be aware, put your money into a HYSA at your local credit union instead! You can round up manually, avoid Acorns.

Stealing my money
I have had to log into this app to cancel subscriptions at least 10 times now I canceled the subscription. It’s not charging me for a couple months and then all of a sudden I start getting charged in my bank account and they restart my subscription without my consent or my authority I have not been able to get this app to completely remove all my information.

Literally invested 5k$ off the rip to see how it would place my money. Easy. Clean app! Took my money quickly immediately no problem! Then because the market slumped (not acorns fault obviously) I decided to pull my investment because it lost 450$ in two days and I was gonna put the remaining money in my portfolio for later.
I withdrawal and immediately get LOCKED out of my account due to suspicious activity. I have verified my email, phone number, sent my photo ID, SS number. Everything. Withdrawal into same account even. And now my account is frozen. No deposit has been made and zero money returned to me after 14 days.
They won’t “verify” my request from the SAME ip address to the SAME bank account. Even after ID verification, SS number and two factor authentication via email AND phone number! :)
They are holding my money hostage for what? Because I have free will?
Avoid this app.

Prepare to get nickel and dimed
Monthly fees, transfer fees all for custodial account. Restricted on what you can add to accounts based on how much you want to pay in monthly fees. No in-kind xfers, management fees, wire fees. It never ends. It’s a cute looking platform that ultimately sticks it to its client.

Hope you don’t want to cancel your subscription because they make it so difficult to do so and it takes weeks! Tried it to see if I like it and it was very confusing so I wanted to cancel and they keep taking money from you as you’re waiting to cancel your subscription. Do not recommend.

Everytime I try to withdraw money it will not allow me to, saying “oops try again in a few minutes “
Sounded good until I seen the fee.
Well the only reason I wanted to sign up was to do the round up option and the Gold package sounds really like a great idea. But I decided not to use Acorns because of the fee. Using the round up on Acorns would mean that you would have to round up too many times to pay the fee before anything from rounding up would be counted towards your account on Acorns. So say you do the $12.00 subscription monthly, and you finally hit enough round ups to make $12.00 and it took half a month to get that $12.00 worth of round ups so now you only have half a month to actually put your roundup into your account as your own money. The monthly fees are the reason I keep saying no to Acorns.
