My experience with this bank has been awfully annoying, first of all they take forever to take the money for my car payment and then they held my check for almost 2 weeks and as soon as it was available , the next day they blocked my account so now I can’t access my money or pay my bills because they blocked my account, I just want to take my money out and cancel my account with them

Whats the point of an app that has so little functionality that it redirects me to my browser and forces me to login via safari or chrome? This is a useless app coming from a terrible financial lender.

I read that Ally was tech forward, so I decided to finance my car through them. At the same time, I opened a savings account and made a transfer.
The account that I was transferring money from was charged twice for the same amount/transaction. That was the first issue.
For auto, I was unable to see the balance for 1.5 months after receiving communications via mail that Ally had the loan. Their support team constantly told me I didn’t have an account, despite me telling them I did and was able to log in.
The support experience is the worst I’ve ever had. They were unknowledgeable and uninterested and will hang up on you.
My issue was finally escalated after 1.5 months of talking to multiple people. It took getting the one person interested enough to help and try to understand the issue.
They’re not tech forward. They had not linked my loan to my email and had to escalate the issue to an engineering team to fix it.
Your money is safer outside of ally, and for peace of mind, just use a different bank.

It’s a design change that makes no sense that makes the buckets impossible to see or use.
This, plus them consistently lowering our APY lower than competitors means I’m switching to a new bank after three plus years with ally.
Avoid this bank, it seems to be going downhill. I worry they are losing money and workers internally which is leading to worse service and horrible design for the app.

Non functional
Trying to log in to access my savings and literally nothing happens. I click log in and nothing - no prompt, no “we can’t log you on right now”, simply doesn’t do the job.
Bucket frustration
I switched to ally bank because of their buckets feature. I thought it was a great way to avoid having an extra budgeting app. But the frustration I have is the way ally pulls from random buckets when a transaction goes through when it doesn’t recognize a transaction. When this happens, I have to manually re-balance everything even though I had already set that money aside in a bucket. For example, I had a $9000 credit card bill I set aside in a bucket. Instead of pulling from that bucket, it pulled all random buckets with smaller amounts from all my other buckets. Super frustrating!! And it’s not great at recognizing other businesses even though it’s already in the “tracked” businesses.
Ally, please find a solution to this! Like how about our approval first within buckets? Or the ability to allocate a transaction to a bucket while it’s pending? If you can’t do this, at least only take from the bucket with the highest amount to cover the transaction. That way I would only have to rebalance two buckets not a bunch of them!!

This app sucks. Customer service is rude and unprofessional. Didn’t help anything
Terrible misleading app
I deposited my check almost a week ago and it took a week to process now it’s saying if needs another 5 days to process again. I need to pay my rent and this is really ruining my life. I would’ve never signed up for the bank in the first place if I knew it was so odd why do I have to wait 5 days just because my account is new? Sofi banking is much better go with them they are a much better option.

Their internal systems are unreliable. You can add an international travel notice to your account, arrive at your destination, and still have your transactions blocked. I had to call repeatedly to unlock my card, sometimes every week.

Weird, inconsistent check depositing issues
Their software needs updates. I have had several times where a check would fail, then pass, then get immediately withdrawn after the money makes it into the account, very frustrating
App Appeal
Has to be the ugliest and most unfriendly app I’ve used in banking. Way too many disclosures at the bottom, too many ancillary boxes on other products than just my spending account. No appeal, just a black/white background with text.
New update is terrible
Whomever is designing apps these days makes it over complicated to do simple and efficient tasks
Log in button dimmed
The log in button does not work. It stays dimmed not allowing you to log into your account through the app.

I used to recommend Ally due to the high yield savings rates. Recently, I’ve had the displeasure of communicating with their customer service on multiple occasions and it’s been an absolute NIGHTMARE. I will be closing my account after years of banking with them. For a fully online bank, the customer support over the phone is laughable. If you’re considering opening an account here, LOOK ELSEWHERE.

Keeps Getting Worse
Use to be a great app. Now I can't access my investments most of the time. It asks for a login and then makes you select a number, but to get that number, you have to exit the screen with no way to get back to it. It's an endless loop and you'll never be able to access your investment accounts.
Worst decision I’ve ever made
This bank is not to be trusted, it really helps them that there’s no place to go and actually talk to a human being face-to-face instead of someone on the phone who was just reading a script, we paid tuition to a school come to find out it was fraudulent because the person running the school was cooking the books, every other bank in America investigated and determined it was a fraud and then refunded the money to the families, except for Ally Bank they refused to even investigate, an insisted it wasn’t fraud, now I understand how they make their money and how they do their business by ripping off someone who was with them for over 13 years, I am absolutely disgusted and removing all my money out of this untrustworthy Institute that refuses to adhere by the banking regulations.
Fails to load on iPad OS16.x
App has not loaded for several months. V26.10 still fails. Should update App Store requirement if it is not compatible with OS 16

12-06-2026 I’ve removed yet another star from the rating as a result of my interaction with “Jamari” through Ally chat. It’s no longer just the app. It’s the client service now. Steep decline in knowledge and ability on their end. I believe it’s time to leave Ally behind.

Messages don’t work
I scheduled a payment a few days ago and then today received a reminder that a payment is due. I logged on to make a payment, but it says there’s one scheduled, but it’s not taking it out. I tried to use the messaging feature, but there’s no way to close the keyboard to submit the message so you can’t do it.I then went to the chat, which doesn’t work either. So basically there’s no way to communicate. I just have to sit back and wait and see what happens apparently. You really should have a better team managing this app.

Using buckets is awful now
Using the savings buckets it awful now. It takes like 4 click and scrolls just to be able to move money between them and when you do this often it’s a pain. On the main overview page there should be a place to go straight to distributing money

App won't even open
The app won't even open just closes immediately after clicking on the app To open it I don't know what the problem is I never had this problem with any other app but this one I would like to open a bank account with you guys but the app won't even open keeps shutting down
App is broken
Recent changes broke the app. Clicking on anything eg account transfer, opens new window asking to login. After login new screen is displayed to pick the number but original screen with number disappears before number is visible. Also window to login pops up even after picking the correct number and logging in for first time. Very poor design and not tested at all.

Hard to make a payment
I have never had so much trouble trying to pay a bill. I tried paying on line, and through the app and both had a message that the payment could not be processed and to try back later. I tried making a payment about 15 times with the same message. When I called customer support they could not help and said to try back later. When I tried paying over the phone there was a service charge. I am not going to pay extra to make a payment for a bill. This is ridiculous.

Problems with the app
Consistently troublesome, for two months I would make an extra payment. for two months, I have to call them so they could change it to principal only instead of adding it to a regular month bill. you get the same answers from the representative. Try to place it on you as operator error when it’s in the app.
Declining service
I’ve been a customer for over a decade with a large amount of my savings in Ally bank but I’ve had a lot of issues trying to access my money and the quality and response time of service has been deteriorating. Took over 40 minutes with customer service to temporarily increase my ATM withdrawal limit by $500 to $1500 from $1000

New bug introduced
Recent update caused a bug. When tapping on investment account, it prompts you to login again, takes you to the web view of all bank accounts, then when you tap in an investment again, it takes you back to the in app all accounts view. Causing you to not be able to look into the details of the investment account. Just loops you.
Authenticator
Love the bank BUT this app can be so frustrating cause you will be in the app and open a different section and it will ask to authenticate the number on another screen but you can’t see it. There is a process workflow flaw. Then when comparing to the website, its missing different sections like auto transfers for investing. Accessing the investment section is just awful through the app and I don’t want to have to open my laptop just to run simple tasks.
