The original gameplay is better
The gameplay is horrible….the original is so much better as far as actual player skills….Pete wheeler is supposed have max running ability yet he runs extremely slow in the field and on bases. The hitting sucks no matter how well you time it. It lags to the extreme…save your money and just buy the Original (‘97) if you haven’t already because this gameplay has been extremely disappointing.

When Backyard Sports was making a return I was beyond ecstatic. Getting a chance to relive my childhood. Playing Backyard Baseball ‘99 was fun, but I was anticipating the ‘01 drop. ‘01 was fun until the scummerrors. I have three seasons created, each attempting to avoid the error. One of my seasons, the error came then the update help me get to the next inning, however when I went back after the recent update I’m stuck on the same inning of that game from months ago. I want to trust that Backyard Football would be different but I’m not eager to spend money to be might with possible heart break. Hopefully the next updates are sustainable for the long run. But until then do not waste your money, just watch the YouTube videos of others reliving your childhood :(
Super slow. Terrible adaptation to phone
Terrible terrible terrible! Extremely slow. Hard to do everything. It’s only 99 cents and I’m telling you to spend it on a pack of gum or something else
Frustrating game.
The running, fielding and batting controls are terrible. So, that’s almost the entire game. To top it off I’m pretty sure the game cheats for CPU team on the higher levels.

SCUM ERROR RUINS GAME
I am unable to progress my season as I am continually met with a fatal error

Wont swing the bat when pitches are coming, I can’t hit the ball no matter what happens

Loved this game as a kid. This version does not work. It is fully messed up. Fielding is bad, the other team sometimes can’t field the ball and then the play never ends until you get out.

Scummerror
When you get to the playoffs , this error message appears after winning games . The game crashes and then picks up at the last batter of the previous game . There’s no way to advance it just keeps reverting back to the last batter of the game.
Update : new update that supposedly fixes this error allowed me to complete the game in question but then happened again as I got to the last out of the next game .

Really they need an option for “fast play” that cuts out all delays, animations (bat twirling, walk up, etc). I mean, it’s really neat, but just way too slow for me.

Not fun without control options
Nostalgic but desecrated
The Cleveland Guardians were the Cleveland INDIANS in 2001, i don’t know why BYB would make an senseless decision here to appease the smaller percent of customers/population that is radical Leftists, if this was BYB 2025 it definitely isn’t an issue. this is just altering a great game and accuracy of 2001 teams and logos for no legitimate reason. guess BYB forgot that Woke is dead and is the only factor from is being a 5⭐️ rating
Team names make no sense
Why change the Cleveland teams name to the Guardians, but leave in the EXPOs???? Either update the whole league to current names or give us the teams from ‘01.
Great until not
I receive an error in the playoffs after the completion of a game. I swipe out and repeat. Same result. Please fix.

Terrible controls
Needs to support a mouse like the original game or have buttons for actions like swinging instead of clicking randomly on screen and hoping the desired action happens

CPU is broke
CPU is crazy, how is a pitch hitting the dirt and still being called a strike against me? My bat loves to melt through the ball and result in a strike too. Love it
Swing and a miss
It’s very frustrating that this game was released as a paid app knowing we would all buy it. The game runs worse than it did on windows 98. The controls don’t make sense for iOS and the game often bricks itself when the ball gets stuck or I get “scumerror” and it crashes. Optimize the game or get rid of it and refund the people who were excited enough to pay you.
Glitches
There is a constant error “SCUMERROR out of array points” and it keeps restarting…..
