Capitalism at its finest
So the app itself I do really enjoy. I love how they summarize books in an easy to read outline that covers all the hot topics so that you can maximize absorption when there’s so much knowledge we want to or feel pressured to take in. Super helpful I especially like the shorts, quick overviews of a range of topics so you can discover new topics and delve deeper if you would like to. I do see an actual benefit for this app HOWEVER, the pricing is absolutely outrageous.
I would have to like take out a loan to be able to pay for this and you can only pay upfront for a year, which is just stupid. I’m sorry.
When we’re out here taking out loans to fill our tanks they have the audacity to come in and charge $80 for something you might not even use. When I can go to the library read the whole book for free and have access to their free resources
Just another greedy company lining their pockets by duping the American public by overvaluation of their product and knowing that auto charge, they will never return.
Predatory practices at its finest. New apps sometimes avoid this, but they all inevitably go to the dark side.
Sad because it could have been a very fun and useful app

Ai narration is boring
I didn’t realize Blinkist was switching to using AI, otherwise I wouldn’t have gotten a year subscription. I used to be able to stay engaged with Blinkist for hours, but with a monotone robot I have to struggle to pay attention. Probably won’t subscribe next year.
Absolute scam, no refund after cancellation
I canceled my Blinkist subscription immediately after realizing it wasn’t for me, but they still charged me for the full next year and refused any refund. Customer service gave me the runaround with scripted nonsense about their “policy” while keeping my money.
This is straight-up deceptive billing. I will be reporting Blinkist to every consumer protection agency, the FTC, BBB, my state’s attorney general, and my credit card company for unauthorized charges. If you’re thinking about subscribing, don’t waste your time or money - they make it easy to sign up and nearly impossible to get a fair refund when you cancel.

Garbage update
Update : yep still sucks
You can’t do a book justice in 7.5 minutes. Features don’t work and snippets at times do not even play. Not worth a dime.

From great idea to complete c***
How can you take a fantastic idea and plan and completely destroy in pursuit of profit? Ask Blinkist. I loved the concept, used the app daily and ended up with a subscription. And then they switched to AI reading it 🙉🙈🙊. Unbearable. What a shame. Would it have been so terrible to focus on quality instead of profit?
Lacks many books
Almost every title on my preferred book list was not yet available to listen on the blinklist app so that was very disappointing. Lacking a lot of faith based titles. After listening to many of the “blinks” (15 min book audio clips) available on the app, I don’t feel that I got many good takeaways other than about the millionaire 5 AM morning routine to maximize your daily routine productivity. This was definitely not worth what I paid for the subscription. I’m greatly unsatisfied with the value of this app and would not recommend.
Predatory Practices
They auto-renewed my subscription with zero advance notice. No reminder email or message before charging my card. When I disputed it, their answer delivered by bot was “don’t care.” Reputable services (Netflix, Spotify, NYT) warn you before they bill. Blinkist doesn’t. Turn off auto-renew immediately if you subscribe, or skip it
Scam
Terrible customer service. I was charged despite not authorizing the purchase and when I immediately requested a refund despite never using the service it was denied. Total scam.
Do not buy
It simply doesn’t work. I reached out to support; address doesn’t exist. I’m out $100 for nothing. Do not buy.
Attempted False Bulling - What Can Consumers Do?
Writing this late Feb ‘26. Months ago I pre-cancelled subscription due to end late July. This week AmEx blocked two $174.99 charges from Blinkest. I’m grateful they caught it, but there does not seem to be a way for me to contact Blinkest.
The First 90 Days and many more
The quality of these book summaries have really deteriorated over the years. A summary with 2 blinks - seriously?? Claude or chatGPT would do a much relevant summary. Even with deep discounts it is sheer waste of time
Unable to get refund
Advertisements clearly says “not sure if Blinkist is the right fit?no worries! Simply contact apple support within the first 14 days to request a refund - quick, easy, and stress-free.” I requested a refund after being charged following a seven day free trial and was denied the refund by apple. So in fact you cannot try out Blinkist to see if it’s the right fit in the stated time frame.
Terrible customer service
Blinkist Charged me for a full year when I was using the free trial. When I tried reaching out all you can do I send an email. The responses take days in between responses. The responses are mostly just for links. It may have a been a problem on my end. But, with terrible communication I would not recommend.
Constant emails
Free trial gave me constant emails that I can’t stop. Emails going on after free trial was stopped.
AI
This seemed way too AI generated and I can’t believe they charge such a high fee for this poor quality summarization of books. I’m disappointed.
clunky
Once the app starts playing on a topic, the pause/play bar covers your ability to play a different piece of content you’d rather listen to.
Also, to little content that isn’t the shallow five tips to change your life. I rarely feel I learned squat.

This app used to be good before AI
This app is suffering from AI in two ways. On one hand AI is going to kill its business model because it’s no longer a premium service to get book summaries in audio form. If blinkist used only human reviewers that were not using AI then I’d argue it would still be worth a premium price. But when your “blink” is filled with so many padding words and phrases, a hallmark of AI generated slop, then it defeats the very concept of having short summaries. And that’s the second way AI is killing this service. The quality of the blinks is terrible. Half of everything in the blink is empty text. Reading other reviews it seems like blinkist is in a downward spiral in how they run their business too. Ppl complaining of scammy practices regarding renewals etc. what I observed first hand is they are desperate to get new subs. You can google around and find a link to 80% off of an annual membership. I didn’t use it but the link was live and took me to a page trying to get you to buy now with a fake countdown timer deceiving you with some false scarcity. The other thing I noticed is the moment I cancelled my “free trial” the service stopped working even though I’m entitled to 6 more free days per Apple’s policy. So clearly this is a sinking ship. You’d do better looking for edification elsewhere. It’s sad because when it first started up (a decade ago?) before AI it was actually a really good service that put some effort into generating blinks that were worth reading.
Useless in most cases
If you listen to books, you already heard or read, you quickly not to call useless this is. The compression loses too much.
Greet concept, Horrible UX + Narration
While I absolutely love the concept, the product itself is really awful. I’ve been a user for years and despite the feedback absolutely no improvements have been made. You can’t clear your queue, you can’t reorder it, you can’t select narration style, you can’t do VERY basic things. The app is super buggy and both the help center and the customer service is useless.
The narration often sounds like they are reading a book for children. It feels condescending and totally misaligned with the book topic.
The summaries lack any sort of depth or insight and there are often mistakes in concepts and almost always mistakes in pronunciations even for people’s names and well known concepts.
The app has so much potential but the developers have whack priorities and don’t take into account any of the user feedback.
I wish I never subscribed as it has been a total waste of money. Go with Shortform or Headway instead if you want a better alternative.
Considering the age of AI is here, I am confident that Blinkist will be out of business within the next 1-2 years if the don’t improve the app.

Misleading description of app saying free then revealing real cost after.
Bee upfront and honest..saves time🤪
Not that great.
Only meaningful if you have already read that book. Even then, it lacks the “impact” of reading the book. Disappointed, cancelled subscription.
Terrible subscription
Do not sign up for a discounted or free subscription with this company. Even if you request a refund from them or Apple immediately when the renewal charge comes through you will not get your money back. Better to just avoid signing up with them in the first place.
Will charge auto renewal with higher price without notifications
Will never use it again
Audio not working
Audio summaries for my Blinkist app aren’t working. No sound comes when I pick play. I tried reinstalling app. Log in and log out. Restart apps. But none of the troubleshoot worked. Please fix it.
Unable to End the Subscription
A year after ending my subscription, Blinkist some how got hold of my credit card number and charged me a full price subscription (I have never received an invoice from Blinkist). So, when I contacted their support, they couldn’t find the account that they charged me for and asked me to provide the receipt!
When I checked Trust Pilot, Blinkist had a reputation of this kind of billing practice.
So, I discourage anyone considering a subscription to Blinkist.

Fraudulent renew
I got notices to resubscribe and reminders my subscription was ending. Then all of a sudden, it renews me. This is flat out FRAUD. Not a mistake.
Basic membership is useless
Purchased the basic membership for Black Friday. Every single book I tried to read was locked. I have enjoyed Blinkist previously but do not understand why I would pay for a basic membership and not be able to read 98% of what’s there.
Buggy as hell
It was working great then all of a sudden started pausing every two seconds. Deleted and reinstalled and it’s still doing it. For an app that prides itself in quick lessons, this bug destroys quickness, wastes time and frustrates me.
Who Learns Anything From This?
So far I’ve listened to and read a few books. Very interesting topics, but the books offer absolutely zero content! They’re all hollow, filled with references to other books and studies, but lack real-life techniques, concrete examples, and effective applications. Perhaps the mistake of cheating by reading a book in 30 minutes costs you the most important content of the book: the stuff that actually matters and works.
------
After I finish “reading” or listening a book, I do not see anywhere to rate the book. I’d love that option.
------
The billing process is criminal.

Faulty App
Audio player does not work on my iOS device. I always get an error message.
Scam company trying to con people with auto subscriptions
They set automatic subscription and charges you without any notification. I cancelled the subscription with an hour of them charging my account and they refuse to respond/ refund the money for an app which I have uninstalled after using for a few weeks.
App No Longer Working
The app no longer works. White tiles and nothing will play. No option for a refund, must let $149 yearly subscription expire 11 months from now.
Took my money, no subscription
I excited to take the Black Friday deal and finally try Blinkist. They process only got as far as them taking my money, but I heard nothing else. I contacted what support I could find and heard nothing.
They overcharge
They’ll offer a low sale price and then overcharge you at the renewal. Mostly AI slop of an app ni don’t think there’s any real humans involved in the app
Unable to create an account with my email & password
I have tried multiple times but can not create an account using my email + updated password even when a change password email is sent after many attempts to change my password following emails that have been sent to me!
I keep getting.messages indicating an account already exists with a long password I didn’t create and won’t allow use of your website which Id like to subscribe to.

Misleading promotion
I tried purchasing another year of Blinkist. While I was looking at the deal of$59 it stated that my account would renew for $199in Feb 2027. This would be one year after my current subscription expires. As soon as I clicked through it changed to indicate that it will expire in November 2026. Completely bogus promotion! I don’t want to be played by apple or their associates.
Predatory dynamic pricing
After being double charged at different rates for two subscriptions, i no longer wish to have this app. Maybe they have a good product, but judging from their aggressive and ever changing subscription prices i will err on the side of caution and assume their entire business is a scam.
Fraud charge
I subscribed in 2021 and just didn’t use it enough so I didn’t renew. I just had a fraud charge (11/27/25) notification from my credit card. I thought it was a auto renew charge as I didn’t remember how long ago I had subscribed. However my credit card company said it was a manually entered charge!
Auto Renew - No notice - No refund
Be cautious about subscribing. It will auto renew without notice and there is NO recourse option to obtain a refund (except in the first year).
Subscription Support?
I signed up a year ago but could not access app or get a support response. I was unable to access my account or receive a customer service reply.
The art of thinking clearly
This book does not help a person think more clearly.
It does the opposite.
The entire book dwells on why we do NOT think clearly.
Not only does it not explain how to think clearly, it is often illogical and misleading.
You should delete this book from BLINK!!!

Nothing new
Not impressed
None
I have been screwed by Blinkist. There website is a trick to get you to look at joining only to just collect money for something I wanted to just learn about. Watch out!!!!!
Good material
Plagued by ads and voice synthesizers.
- 90% off?? That’s not a sale, that’s a poorly priced product.
- Where exactly is the rate/rating per reading button?
- There’s music playing during the reading??

Had to Move On
Sadly, after years of being a paid subscriber and enjoying it, I had to move on. They have recently started something that is so annoying … these pop-up dark ads that force you to link to an external website and then have to flip back to the the app to keep using it! For a paying subscriber!
I sent them a letter of complaint and I got an AI generated response telling me how to cancel my subscription. Gotta love the honesty!
Well, I can take a hint. Not responding to my objection at all and instead just telling me how to cancel.
So I just did.

Misleading
I specifically looked for an app that wasn’t subscription based and after I set up my interests it asks you to subscribe for $99 or $139 per year. They don’t list the Subscriptions in the App Store like many other apps.
My choices?
When you sign up with this app, they ask for your interests. As a psychologist, I want to know more about philosophy and psychology. And while those topics came up at first, now I’m only offered pop money-making and pop psychology topics. Where are the serious books? If the drivel won’t stop, I’m out.
Annual Signups Only
Let me pay monthly and see if I like it. I’m not giving you $99, that’s insane. I’m also not signing up for a 7 day trial where you hope I forget to cancel and then I pay you $99. No, sorry. Great concept but think about lower commitment onboarding flows.
Website and App not syncing & Problems with content it’s self
I think they over do summaries for certain books like 48 laws of power and atomic habits you are not getting the full value of the actual book if they only not over summarized it
I tested it for a week and didn’t like it
Certain books has AI narrative that are not syncing with the book at all

Content blocked early
I was not using the app as much as I thought I would throughout the year. Therefore, I elected not to renew my prescription two months in advance of expiration or renewal. However, Blinkist is decided to lock me out out of content right after my decision not to renew. Shame on you, Blinkist!
