Failed Promises
Bluesky appeared awhile back claiming to be a decentralized social media platform where people wouldn’t have to deal with the confines of an algorithm, with people being able to see and post what they want.
And while this idea was true, we see time and again the platform’s own moderates go against their mission statement, banning LGBTQ+ people over specking against injustices, and now recently with their ban against NSFW content, despite most users arguing against it.
This moderation team are both spineless and detrimental to the goal of their OWN APP. Things may be fine now, but these mods could easily bring the whole app down with more bad and oppressive decisions.
And while this idea was true, we see time and again the platform’s own moderates go against their mission statement, banning LGBTQ+ people over specking against injustices, and now recently with their ban against NSFW content, despite most users arguing against it.
This moderation team are both spineless and detrimental to the goal of their OWN APP. Things may be fine now, but these mods could easily bring the whole app down with more bad and oppressive decisions.

This is the last straw. I’ve been posting daily for over a year with almost no interaction despite over 3000 followers. This is a very common complaint.
I’m leaving this one-sided relationship.
Since BS doesn’t care at all about my time and attention on their app, I’m going back to Mastodon where at least they’re honest about not having an algorithm.

Always annoying to use
Great community. Lazy devs aspirate make things annoying. Can’t handle me listening to podcasts or music while browsing bluesky, and forget full screening a pic or video there’s no predictable behavior when you try to return to the feed. App my just close down, or video will start with no audio, or you’ll be scrolled up to the top of the feed…. Sometimes. So annoying.

The moderation service regularly suspends or bans the accounts of trans folks that are outspoken about their experience of living in today’s America
Can’t get into my account anymore.
I kept getting rate limit exceeded but never used my account enough to warrant the message. I couldn’t do anything without the app having a seizure on every page.
I don’t know what to do now. I tried resetting my password etc., and uninstalled and reinstalled the app, but nothing’s fixed.

App is nothing but liberal leftist propaganda and garbage, literally never followed anyone but one person with nothing political, never searched anything political, i barely got on the app, it’s been months since I got on from the day I posted this review and my home feed is nothing but forced leftist brain rot, lies and misinformation, and nothing about any of your interests. Nothing but pushing hate and inciting violence against republicans, conservatives, Christians (coming from the party of “inclusivity and tolerance”)
Actually unusable
This app signs me out every time i close the app for no apparent reason, making me click on my account to sign back in. This app has always done this (although not EVERY time) but usually it’s fine because i’m able to sign back in after one click. Now it does this, but loading the app itself takes several minutes of just the starry sky background. Once i click on my profile now, all it does is highlight my selection to show that i clicked it. I’ve waited 10-15 minutes with the app open, it doesn’t do anything beyond that now. If i’m lucky it’ll eventually let me type in my password just to be met with a “could not reach your provider” error, then i wait a few hours to try again, all while the web version works normally. I genuinely cannot use this app even when trying.

I use ipad all the time for Bluesky and I am now getting a 401 error. This mobile app is tiny on ipad and is bad.

A love-hate relationship
Bluesky could be so good, and I love the community I’ve found there, but the devs are actively making the app worse with their vibecoding and moderation decisions. Maybe if the team would hire people who can write actual code instead of spending their days mocking/blocking their userbase and rolling out features that no one wants (and that break the functionality of the app) then it’ll deserve a better rating than this one. Love, a hater of the image carousel.

I open the apps and it’s just a blue sky with a few stars on it. Nothing loads.
Should have been fixed by now
It's surprising that "Blooskee" has been around this long and still hasn't implemented basic functionality. For one thing, if you submit a post and it gets flagged with the wrong label (and you appeal it), there is zero indication whether your appeal is being ignored, denied, or still in processing-even weeks later.
Image quality is so terrible, the service is hardly worth using anyway.
And there's no button for seeing people's comments on a post. Tap the button you'd think means "See comments" and instead it pulls up a field for you to leave your own comment. Want to see others' comments? Surprise! You have to tap in the blank space to the left of a post.
And there's still no image-/video-sharing functionality in DMs.
But what can you expect from a company that wanted to call their app "BlueSky" yet (for some reason) left the "s" lower-case (so that it looks like "blooskee")? How long ago was this app launched, and yet it still looks like it's "in development"?

Stop deleting notifications
Stop deleting notifications! If you are going to ding my phone then it needs to stay there! You are the only app on my phone that thinks it's OK to do this, and there is no setting to disable it.

They promised they would not force AI that no one wants on this platform, but now it’s being shoved into the app anywhere they can. Even with a lot of pushback from the community, they just tell us we don’t know what we want and continue to find ways to add useless slop to their platform. Bluesky is just like every other social platform, CEOs that are out of touch and only care about their tech bro bubble. So tired of AI being forced in every aspect of life.

I can’t get on Bluesky. I go to log in 24 hours after I last tried. Put in my password and it still says reached maximum tries. How long before I can go back on? Two days I have been unable to log on to my accounts.

The people running this app, like TikTok, will freeze your account if they don’t like a comment you make. Don’t use it.

Ever since the AI algorithm has been added, the app has been performing poorly. Constant errors in loading feeds

Bugs & outages
I have never seen a platform with so many bugs. There’s always an outage or rate limit exceeded errors whatever that is or sorry, try back in a few minutes error messages. It also works as an echo chamber for mentally unstable people heavily involved in far left politics. Not worth anybody’s time. I’m deleting off my phone.
Can’t even login
Skeets for Bluesky isn’t working, so I came back to the Bluesky app and it won’t even let me login. It’s asking for my birthday, but when I try to add it, I keep on getting a network error.
Guess I’ll be using Mastodon only moving forward.

It is becoming apparent that that Bluesky is silencing voices among the Arab and Muslim communities by suspending accounts. I would expect that on X, but not the app that billed itself as being the non-bigoted, free-speech alternative. Reported for racism.
Since April, Bluesky has launched their AI-driven code and this site just unusable now. I have to quit and then reopen just to sometimes get online. The staff block you if you ask them why they have offloaded their thinking to their AI dev bot. Just a trash app with a trash staff.

Terrible algorithm
I got tired of having a for you page filled with things that I did not care about at all, so I started manually selecting “Show more like this” and “show less like this” to see if maybe that would fix it but now its even worst than it was before. Absolutely useless and terrible
Random blank GIFs inserted
On every single post I make now, it inserts a random blank GIF. I deleted the app and then reinstalled it and it does not help. It also always gives me this note..."Unsupported clipboard content"

They added Age Verification
Bluesky just took a page out of Discord’s book and added age verification. I got the spinning wheel of doom when I tried to read my feed today. When I deleted and reinstalled the app, I couldn’t log on without providing “Age Assurance.” No. I don’t need to log on that badly just so my information can be stolen. They didn’t even publish an article anywhere about this update. Thumbs down. 👎🏾
Being made with ai slop
Had an account for over a year now, learned today they used generative ai to code for this service. As an environmentalist, I oppose generative ai as it is resource intensive, a single data center consuming as much water and electricity and putting out as much pollution as a whole city, so rather than support further polluting our planet, I deleted my account and the app. I had high hopes for bluesky and find myself sorely disappointed.

Link color STILL not visible! Fix it!
When I’m dark mode with my brightness all the way down (which is how I use my phone 90% of the time) the dark blue color used for links DOES NOT SHOW UP - THERE IS NOT ENOUGH CONTRAST in that link color. That blue needs to be changed to a brighter, more visible shade.
I use accessibility mode to reduce screen brightness further the majority of the time as I use my phone at night, and these dark blue links are UNREADABLE.

Resets after opening a skeet
Every time I open a skeet, I get taken back to the top of my feed. If I’ve been (doom)scrolling for a time, it takes way too long to get back to where I left off. This did not used to be the case several updates ago. Bug, or new feature?
Terrible app
With or without the safe search features you get really disgusting things on your feed. And I’ve used the moderation features to block seeing things I don’t want to see. I’ve done everything to filter things out. And it’s like the app pushes things on you. That you completely dislike. I would NEVER recommend this app to anyone. If I could rate this app with zero stars I would…. DO NOT USE THIS APP.

Banned as I joined
Guess you can get banned for no reason the second you sign up? Made an account and couldn't even log in before it said I was banned. Only guess is it doesn't like that I used an alias email so maybe they're just mad they couldn't steal real data from me
Ghosted by support/moderation
I had an account for about a week (hadn’t made any posts or DMs yet and only had followed 7 accounts, one of which followed me first), and when I updated my profile with a basic description (nothing offensive, no links to other platforms or anything like that) and background image (a picture of a duck sitting in a parking lot), my account was immediately suspended by automated spam detection. I appealed and received an email saying my account had been restored, but it still shows up as suspended.
I’ve emailed their moderation team twice over the span of a few weeks trying to get it fixed but received no response whatsoever, not even acknowledgment. I then tried going through their support portal, only for them to forward the ticket to the same black hole that is their moderation team.
It’s been over a month now and I’ve gotten no actual support whatsoever. I didn’t break any of the rules and I’m forever locked out of my account because of a false positive in their spam detection system.
I don’t see how this app expects to compete with any other platform if they punish their users for simply using the app as recommended, and offer no support whatsoever when their own system makes a mistake.
