I’ve had this app for years and it’s always been perfect, but now, with two separate Canon cameras, neither will connect out of nowhere…the app needs to be fixed because this is ridiculous.

This app quite literally never connects to my camera no matter how many times I reset it, it worked completely fine at first and now it’s terrible, the wifi never works and the bluetooth option does absolutely nothing.

When the app works, it’s great. But it often feels impossible to get the camera to connect. WiFi connected, Bluetooth connected, functionality…. Not connected. Happens at in opportune times so definitely don’t rely on the remote shooting for anything important. And pray you don’t have to use it to transfer photos reliably.
Yet another app ruined with “updates”
Admittedly, I rarely use the canon camera connect app, as I don’t usually have a need for remote shooting. That said, I have used it in the past in order to take “selfies” with my R5 while hiking/finding myself in remote yet picturesque areas. All I ever had to do was go to my camera’s settings and turn on the wifi pairing, find the WiFi in my phone, open the app, and tada, I could snap a good shot for memory’s sake.
Well, I hadn’t use the app in quite a while, but I found myself in such a setting today. After hiking for miles through a japanese forest (and taking ample pictures via my R5), I reached a spot that would have made for a great memory selfie. I started the process of connecting my camera to my phone via my camera’s wireless mode. Immediately the app told me I could no longer use it unless I gave it access to my “precise location”. I don’t understand why that would be a necessity in order to take a photo using my camera, but I begrudgingly turned it on (never having to do so before). I then spent 10 mins trying to get my phone to connect, only to constantly receive the “unable to connect to local network”. Really? There’s no local wifi in the middle of a forest to connect? You don’t say!!
I don’t know what update caused this change, but this was never an issue in the past.
Just yet another example of making things worse for the sake of “improvement”. Seeing as I generally used this app while being far from cell service/any local network, this app is now effectively useless to me. Thanks Canon.

WiFi connectivity
You need a PhD if you want to connect to camera. The process of connecting camera and app is very frustrating

Why does this app need full access?
This app deliberately forces you to bypass Apple security options by requiring full access to ALL photos on your phone to transfer FROM the camera to the phone. It will not work with anything less than full access. No thank you.

Was good but Canon messed it up
I used this app when I first got my R6mk2 and it worked well with not Canon Login. Unfortunately Canon decided to require a login. Mainly it’s very annoying if you only want to use this as a camera remote. These companies have become data collection crazy

It’s really annoying that every time you have to import the photos in a place with stable wifi. The Bluetooth NEVER works once. Not mention the remote control in the wild is impossible.
What happened?
I have used this app for years without a problem. Then they updated it. A canon ID is now required to use the app. I tried to sign in, it wouldn’t accept my ID. I tried to create a new ID, it wouldn’t accept it. Now it has locked me out. It says to contact support. So far, I haven’t found app support, only users complaining of the same kind of problems. It makes me regret buying Canon products, of which I have many all the way back to an AE1. What happened?
It is now a year later and tried it again hoping it was better. The app still will not allow me in, will not allow a new ID to be created. Still absolute garbage.

Hard to connect.
Takes forever and is very difficult to connect to my cannon camera. I don’t understand why it will connect one day and then the next day it won’t
Need Account? Really?
I've had the app for a long time and it worked as it should - just access MY camera from MY phone. After a period of not using it, I wanted to see how well remote shutter works for an upcoming trip. And I get stuck at "create free account??" Yeah, let me register for the free account to get all the "features" for "my convenience". Pffftt!

Terrible connectivity, I have to reset the connection on my camera every single time I connect. That seems a bit ridiculous.
Connecting Camera is an annoying experience
I’ve had this camera for about a year as well as the app, and the connection issues are the worst I’ve ever experienced. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t. I’ve done everything right, trying to connect to both Bluetooth and WiFi, nothing. There’s absolutely no reason why the app all of a sudden doesn’t work. It’s very annoying and once I find a replacement way to get my photos, I’m never using this app again.
Needless privacy risk
The app used to allow downloading images from the camera via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi without providing full access to photos on your phone. It no longer allows you to limit photo access and I requires full access to your photos, which is not necessary as nearly every app works just fine with limited access.
Create account & full access
As many others have said, the app use to be great to move photos to your phone. Now you have to make an account and allow full access to photos, it used to be great and simple to use. But now, it’s really inconvenient. Easier to just delete the whole thing.

Just as broken as it’s always been, but now they demand that you make an account so they can track you. Garbage company.
Why all the information?
App seems to be well built, however it should not require an account and precise location access just to copy photos from your camera. I’ll stick to using my laptop which doesn’t extort my personal information just to copy some files.

FIX THE APP!!!
This app is now completely useless. It USED to work-but now it gets stuck on telling you to “turn on local network access” in your settings. I HAVE IT TURNED ON, and yet IT STILL TELLS ME TO TURN IT ON and I can’t download the images from my camera to my iPhone! And the Bluetooth connection method doesn’t work either! FIX THIS, CANON!!!

“I’ve used Canon Camera Connect for years. The recent update now requires full access to my entire photo library just to download images to my phone. This is unnecessary and a major violation of privacy. Please update the app to allow transfers without requiring full photo library access

they need to tweak the app so that when you connect to your camera via wifi, you can immediately select use cellular data. as the app is, it connect to wifi and there’s a minutes long gap where the phone has no internet and can’t load the photos on the app

Bring back the old app!
I don't know what type of "update" was made but for the last few months I have the HARDEST time connecting to my camera. Before, it used to be so easy and straightforward and fast. Now it takes me sometimes an hour until I figure out how to get the connection and, honestly, even then I don't have a clue what it actually takes to do that. Maybe just dumb luck? Or is there something I'm missing? Please, I'm begging you, make it user friendly again, like it used to be. There is no reason why suddenly my camera refuses to connect to my phone. Atrocious experience.

This app used to work great without needing an account or internet. There is no reason that I should now need an account without adding any features. Incredibly disappointing from Canon to kneecap the usefulness years after I’ve purchased this camera with no recourse.
Bug detected when trying to connected iPhone to Cámara
App doesn’t let the connection happen between the cámara and iPhone. Right when it finds it through WiFi connection, it looses connection and fails.
Poor excuse from Canon
My 800D worked fine with all the features of the older app. This new app that I had to install is a poor excuse for what I would expect from Canon. Will not connect and is in a repetitive loop of registering the camera. The app has my Canon ID correct and knows the camera info and nickname but keeps going back to the register camera step. Other tech savvy people have concluded it is the app

Online ID required
This app is useless without an internet connection and a Canon ID. I shouldn’t need these in order to connect to my camera.
Crashing
The app crashes every time I try to export photos to my phone. And iCloud doesn’t make it easier unless you have a Mac, since the iCloud interface on Windows is absolute cheeks.

I’ve tried to use this app with my Canon T6 several times and it’s very hard to connect and get it to stay connected and then when it does connect all I get is a black screen so it’s really impossible to use effectively.
New iOS and app doesn’t work
I’ve had my Canon EOS Rebel T6i for a few years. I love the camera! But the app no longer works. The WiFi will not connect. It gets stuck asking to turn on local network. It’s on. It still won’t connect and asks again to turn it on. I’ve done every trouble shooting idea out there. The is no way to connect wirelessly to my iPhone 16 max right now.
Pathetic
$100 phones have GPS but a $1500 Canon camera doesn’t, so I want location using the app. It’s a constant fail. Even the terminology is unclear. Verdict: useless.
Sucks
I wanted a camera that would be able to transfer pics to my phone and this did, after a lengthy process trying to get the app to work. It worked great, for a while.. then it would not transfer my pics, screen said it was looking for wifi connection, it could look all
night if I let it! There is no Canon support for this app, you have to ask on the community page and that’s a process getting there too.
I deleted the app and then tried it again, and now here I am, trying to get it to work once again. Very frustrating!

Hate that it forces you to register an account before using. This used to not be the case.
Privacy nightmare
Requires access to all of your photos just to allow you to import images from your camera. Also requires location to connect to camera over WiFi. Neither of these are necessary.
Canon camera non-connect
My camera never connects to my phone for image transfers. It will hold the camera WiFi for less then a minute and then drops me. I can’t use the app at all. Very disappointed
