A Mediocre app has gotten worse
I’ve been a subscriber for years. This app used to be somewhat useful in comparing products. Now it is not worth looking at. The website is gotten worse as well but with a little effort some good information can still be gleaned.
Keyboard covers sign in Submit button
Impossible to sign in because the keyboard covers the "Submit" button.
App won’t download
Trying to use but it won’t download off the App Store. 😑😑😑

No longer works
Approaching 50 years of subscribing over 3 generations of my family, we have been believers and supporters of Consumer Reports, but as everything in life, all good things end sooner or later.
For the last year no one in my family has been able to sign into CR with either apps or on various devices and different browsers. The web site continually says it is down and to go to the main page. This has been going on for close to two years.
I just downloaded the app on a new device and when opened it simply shows the green screen saying Consumer Reports and provides no login screen.
We understand that this could be an isolated case and our investigations and reverse engineering efforts seem to explain what the unacceptable explanations may be.
Funny that a renewal notice was recently sent. Sorry to say we wont put our family at risk due to some false whims, although we understand that CR needs to protect itself from hackers and misinformation.
Would have been nice to reach 50 years but it’s not worth the risk.

Severely limited
Consumer Reports has a long reputation for rigorous product testing. You won’t find that for most products in the app. Instead, you’ll find an AI chat bot and a bunch of generic number ratings with no explanations. Save your money and append “Reddit” to your searches.
iPad compatibility
Unable to open in iPad. Deleted and reloaded app-no success. App only opens with promo, and no further.
App is broken
App crashes every time I go to the my product section making it mostly unusable.
AI Disaster
I’m a long time supporter of Consumer Reports but only use it a few times a year to help decide on major purchases. Today Im trying to check on a personal electronic device and am stuck in AI chat hell. I enter the name of the device and get… nothing. No response, no alternative, just a blank blue screen with video snowflakes. What has happened to the thoughtful, informative response I’ve always gotten. Cancelling my membership.
Only Opened Introductory Pages
I downloaded the app. I could only get three screens explaining the benefits of Consumer Reports to show.
Terrible on iPad
App does not scale for use on iPad. Very poor interface. It looks like a bloated iPhone view that doesn’t even take up the width of the screen.
OBSOLETE?
1️⃣With all the warning about AI mistakes-TRUST factor⬇️their reviews. 2️⃣CR print version format renders them useless. 3️⃣Have called them-gave up b/c CR Unwilling/Unable to change. Except for AI-CR is a throwback to the LAST century. 4️⃣CR gives🚫clues to how specific products aspects are weighted. 5️⃣Been burned by their recs. Lost$$$. ⚠️Too expensive b/c so many free options avail.
Money Hungry
I subscribed to Consumer Reports both digitally and to receive the magazine. Frequently I receive emails and snail mail solicitations for donations. I paid for your services already plus today I received a “raffle” solicitation, again asking for another donation. How much of your solicited monies were used for the printing and mailing of this raffle? I have cancelled my renewal and will no longer be using your services.
Privacy settings don’t work
How can a consumer focused app not let user opt out of selling their data?
Cancelled my membership.
Cancelled my membership.
Predatory Autopay
I was charged last year for auto pay, so I made sure to cancel renewal. I was still charged this past year.
I updated email through app, but CR continued to use old email.

iPad
It doesn’t work on iPad. At all.
Will not open!
New to this app downloaded it with Apple and it is locked. It comes up with an CR info but stops. cannot open it to utilize it.
🤔
Disappointed to see Consumer Reports avoid using a very consumer-friendly method of subscribing via in-app purchase.
I won’t be subscribing because I don’t know how easy it is to cancel or manage my subscription vs. using the in-app purchase method gives me complete control.
(And they have the nerve to ask for a $6 tip on top of the subscription fee???)

Sadly, not compatible with iPad
This app is an iPhone only app. Works OK on iPhone, but it’s difficult to see and read on the small screen. The app will function on an iPad, but it only appears on screen in iPhone format; still too small to peruse readily.
App is poor for a tablet
I downloaded your app to my tablet and it appears to be designed for a phone. Am I missing something?

Can’t sign in
I’m able to sign in on a browser but not the app. I spent 10 minutes on a call with customer service and they have no clue how to help me nor are they aware of any issues taking place with the app. Also, the “Having trouble signing in? Call 1-800….” takes you to a 3 minute recording about everything related to CR including making a donation but nothing about getting assistance with signing in until the very last prompt. Either create a number that takes you straight to technical support or change the message to “Hey, call us…but pack a lunch first.”
They’ve ruined the app
If you know what you’re looking for and the app has access to it, it’ll provide you the review information.
If you’re looking for the ratings page so you can compare and filter the product you’re looking at you should stick to the website.

Can’t sign in
Can’t sign in on my Apple iPad Mini Generation 7. Goes into a loop of “print subscriber” then “sign in” then “pain subscriber” over and over again.
crashed
I am assuming that this involves the last update. I cannot use the app or sign in on the app. It is not the account as it works in a browser. It is the app.
App v Online
For some reason the app requires a different log in than the website? I go to the app log in, and incorrect. Click forgot password, they send me an email. I get email, change password on a mobile (not the app) site. It logs me into the site, again, not the app. I go back to app with newly correct log in credentials, and it’s still not the correct password, somehow? This is infuriating- and certainly not worth the $40 to endure. Come to think of it, what would consumer reports recommend of their own app?
Doesn’t update
I’m trying to use this on my phone (my only option.)
It’s telling me that I have to update the app before I can use it. Unfortunately the App Stores’ only option is to “Resume” - after choosing that, it reverts to a “pause” option. It’s frustrating!!

Ruined by AI
This app responds to search queries by requiring you to make an AI inquiry. Then instead of a general response that is informative, it provides “advice” on your purchase. I search kitchen trash cans and was told to buy a compost milling device. Nope. I will try to tap CR database through duck duck go.
Where are the articles?
This is not like other magazine digital versions which give you access to back issues as well as all the content of the current issue. Consumers digital gives only product reviews. Why not include a cover to cover current issue like all other digital magazines?
Can’t even sign in!
I have an account, i’m signing in with the same user ID/email and password that signed me in on the website but for whatever reason it refuses to acknowledge that the username/email and password. And yes, I do pay for access to it.
And why is it microscopic size on an iPad? Can you not fix it to fit the screen of an iPad and apparently a bigger screen on an iPhone?
Kind of disappointed, considering this is consumer reports and they wouldn’t even be able to their own app very high rating. Oof.

App not working
Can not log into App. Keeps sayings “Oops, credentials not right” even though using the same credentials I CAN log into web site on browser.
Useless app
I deleted it and use web site. Surprised they cannot do a better design job.
Very difficult to Navigate
I always have to go to their website to find anything. The search button is useless. Needs a complete overhaul.
Frustrating to use compared to website
Navigation on the app is horrendous, and it’s almost impossible to find the vast majority of articles you can find on the web version. For instance, there is no logical way to see all the detailed articles about car reviews on the app, and typing in the name of a model does not always pull up the review (even if one exists on the web version). Some polishing is much needed!!
Not IPad Friendly
The display is iPhone size. You can make it slightly bigger, but what’s the point? 🤨
Use the website if you have an iPad. Then you’ll have a full iPad display. 👍🏻

Please can I have the old app back??
The CR app has gone from the go to app for purchases and information to an app that’s nearly unusable.
The auto-complete doesn’t work. The AI spits out so much info with whole sections that are just false.
Please, please can I have the old app back, without the useless and pointless aAI?

Terrible
Search doesn’t work. Second time I got it and its still completely useless.
Internet Isdues
Could not open the app. Kept saying I had no internet connection.
Charged for downloading app
All I did was download the app (which was supposed to be free ) and I got a charge taken out of my bank account for $5.34. The app has no “contact us“ or support links.
iPad version
The iPhone app works great but the iPad app does not fill the screen. Why?
Not useful
I know CR can not review everything, but since I subscribed in November 2024, I can’t find reviews of anything I’m interested in. I wish there was a free trial-even for a few days- then I would have seen it was not for me. Should have done month to month. Oh well.
Ipad fail
Make an ipad version
Something failed
Keep getting this message, deleted app, reinstalled. Every search has white screen with “something failed”.
Terrible company
This company says they are for the people but, they harass their members with mailers and emails trying to get us to renew when we are paid in advance. I have seen so many elderly people paid up to 2050 because they think they owe. Their families have to deal with it after they pass CR!!! I would not waste my hard earned money on a company with such disgusting policies. Use google and other sources to get accurate information because they do not keep up with products. Worst company I ever dealt with.
Updated app, doesn’t remember my credentials
I hate apps that break my login. I don’t remember all these and wasn’t home to look it up. Do better!
Crazy links
I go on here and I look at gas ranges and it brings them up. This is the free section and it says for sale on Amazon and it has a link and you touch the link and none of the gas ranges that I looked at are on Amazon, so I don’t know what tapping the link does. It’s just seems to be a waste So now I’ve joined and I put in 36 inch gas ranges and it only comes up with 30 inches the same width range hoods. It only comes to 30 inch range so it’s pretty much useless for what I’m looking for kind of disappointed.
On further looking, I’m looking for a microwave drawer and it comes up with microwave. It doesn’t have a specific search you can’t put in wolf range or anything like that. It just brings up a whole list of ranges and you have to go through them one by one to try to pick it and that seems to apply to all categories. It’s just a pain in the butt.
Sorry I bought it

Terrible app - not really iPad capable
Can not take advantage of larger screen on ipad
CR
The information seems outdated. I finally decided to purchase. The app is not user friendly can't find information except what is spoon feed to users. Not a ton of products truly tested. Don't know if ratings go from 100 being a good score or product of 100 bad based on the top 100 and can't find info for scoring without reading 20 pages. Got to stream line my research process. Waste money! Pretty sure going to cancel, can find the information given on any web page for free!
Completely useless and waste of money
I've had it for less than a month -paid the $39 annual fee and I've looked for 5 different products and then the products I look for are not listed. It's worthless !!! Your will do better just using plain old google reviews. I am looking for typical things like well-known washing machines… Higher end and well-known mattresses like Purple, etc..
