I like to learn in off cycle locations where I usually just have my phone and I keep getting this black screen when the video is supposed to play. Disappointing and a hindrance to learning.

Coursera is no longer free
I recently reconnected after a couple of years and found out that now there’s no audit option and you have to pay $49 on literally all the courses I was interested in. Sad how companies capitalize off of what should be freedom of information and learning.

Dishonest Business Practices
It seems at first glance to be an unbeatable offer: a seven day free trial of the learning account, and with it a free three month trial to Google AI pro. However, when I got about three modules in, it came time to download the trial as advertised, for the Google AI pro. Upon trying to activate the Google trial that was bundled with Coursera, the activation failed, and it stated you must be using the paid version of Coursera. The offer un-clearly inferred that the trial to the AI pro was going to be part of the free trial. I did troubleshoot, and even spoke with customer service, and it turns out that the messaging, including the misleading claims of free trials, were intentional.. I was so looking forward to increasing my knowledge in several different areas, and seeing the bundled free trial offer was what finally convinced me that it was time to start paying for some more continuing education classes. After this incident, I find myself disheartened and disillusioned. I feel that there should be zero trickery when it comes to free trial fine print. We’re all used to dishonest business practices, but this one was especially hurtful.

Absolutely zero support for Walmart users
Coursera might be an OK company if you go and purchase a course directly through them but if the course is provided by your company they give you zero support. I spent 20 minutes with their AI support explaining that I cannot access my Google AI fundamentals course that Walmart let me enroll in using my Walmart credentials via the app. Now this might be by design but the AI support bot was absolutely useless. And when you request to speak to a actual person it just says no you can’t. If I could give them negative stars I would.

This used to be a great free resource for solid education materials should you need to brush the dust off of old college topics or learn more about topic of interest, just audit the course if you don’t want the credit. Now everything beyond week 1 of a course is held behind a paywall, and at $60/month, you’re challenging my internet service bill. Good bye Coursera!

Double charged
Be careful you don’t get charged for two payments, they don’t cancel normal subscriptions if you upgrade plans. You have to manually go cancel the normal subscription. This caused my account to overdraft for the first time when in a bad spot. Not fun for college students lol.

Paid so much and cant even use it…
So I paid for the annual Coursea plus and it shows on my bank statement but it isn’t reflecting on the app or site. So I can’t use it. I paid for it back in the middle of January and it’s now March. Ive email them telling them the issue and all they said was someone would reach out (thay was over a month ago). There’s no way to call to anything and no other email or anything!

Horrible customer service
Tried for over a week to get Coursera plus so I could work towards a career in IT. Due to a near complete lack of availability, the only option I had to contact them was to send an email and hope they would promptly reply. They did not. They still have not. App is a disappointment in my opinion due to the lack of availability to their customers as well as potential customers.

Refund problem
The courses are fine, but I purchased a year subscription which I used for a couple of months. The cost doubled in the second year. I canceled my subscription and timely requested a refund which has not been processed. It is difficult to find someone to talk to about this besides a chat bot who is unhelpful. Very frustrating.

Double charge within 10 minutes
I agree to $19.99 for the program . 10 minutes after a second charge came in for $69.99 I did not agree to it. I am trying to get it resolved. I dislike when someone is trying to be sneaky or scam me. Not sure what happened here I have yet to figured it out. It appears that an option is offer to add unlimited tools for the class .i hit skip twice and it wouldn’t skip so I press it, but it never mention that the cost was $69.99 it appears that they will not help you or understand that a mistake was done because not enough information was presented. They are saying that they will offer 50% discount of the $69.99 they were offering me 4 more weeks in exchange for the $69.99. Taking me as if I am stupid when I know there regular monthly is less then that.

"I had a very disappointing experience with this company’s billing and support. On Dec 31st 2025, I was charged for the entire month of January 2026. I cancelled my subscription that same day and requested a refund for the upcoming month, as I no longer wanted the service. Not only did they refuse the refund, but the support staff was dismissive-telling me to just 'enjoy' the service for a month I had already cancelled. It's incredibly unprofessional to force a customer to pay for a future month they’ve explicitly opted out of."

No refund eligibility at any point if subscription was started with a free trial
I started this subscription with a 7 day free trial. I had it for a month after the trial. On the second month, I cancelled as soon as my card was charged and asked for a refund on that month. I was told I was not eligible for any refunds because my membership had started with a free trial. This should be made clear when someone signs up for a free trial. It feels a bit misleading.

Grow your customer service first.
On Dec 1, 2025, I received an email from Coursera that my Coursera Plus subscription is to be auto renewed on Jan 1, 2026. I tried contacting Coursera through the app to cancel auto renewal of the subscription. I have so far sent three emails during the month and have not heard back. I am unable to cancel it through the iOS app or on computer. My Coursera Plus subscription does not even show up as active at this time.

Makes impossible to cancel within free trial
Tried to cancel during the free trial, wasn’t able to find anywhere to do so or that I actually had an active free trial to even cancel. They made it appear as though I had no subscriptions or plans or ANYTHING.
Then charged me $108
When I requested a refund I was met with basically sorry bout your luck. And the tone of a middle finger.
Now because it coincided with getting approved for our apartment and all the very careful financial planning we did, we don’t have that $108 for our car insurance payment.
Super awesome.
If I could give zero stars I would. Definitely will not recommend.

Predatory Charging
Coursera is possibly one of the most predatory companies I have had the misfortune of coming across. Despite multiple attempts to contact their customer service and support team to cancel a subscription I no longer needed and even having to cancel my credit card, Coursera continued to charge me. The email I originally used to sign up for an account had expired, and I had to jump through a multitude of hoops to finally cancel my subscription. I would warn anyone against using this company for any paid services.

I contacted them to see about a full or partial refund or even a credit since I had not used the product or logged in at all, but they just kept repeating their no refund policy which is that I should have known better.
I understand the policy, but life happens and it’s so easy to forget about free trials that start charging you for a free months.
There should be a medium ground if the account has not been used and the person is not taking advantage of the company.
