Really terrible app
Unbelievably buggy and over designed. I’d rather have a simple app that works well. The saddest part is that Spiegel used to have this app (roughly 2 years ago). Then they decided to redesign it and add features that no one needs. It’s just so buggy now that I decide to cancel my subscription. So sad!

….what a terrible app! It takes ages to load downloaded magazines, no bookmarking functionality, the UI all over the shop. Seriously, this is the epitome of a failing Germany - old school, over-engineered, ‘komplett am Nutzer vorbei’. Take a look at the Financial Times app and you may find some urgently needed inspiration. Your developers need to be replaced asap.

Pure Volksverhetzung
Habe mein jahrelanges Abo gekündigt. Der Spiegel ist nur noch gefährliche und unverantwortliche Volksverhetzung, mit Journalismus hat es nichts mehr zu tun. Ich werde das nicht auch noch mit Geld unterstützen. Und sowas in Deutschland. Man würde ja denken das wir aus unserer Geschichte was gelernt haben, aber der Spiegel ganz klar nicht. Eine Schande was aus der Zeitschrift geworden ist.
Magazin und Spiegel Online in einer App ist ein disaster
Die Zusammenlegung von Magazin und Spiegel online ist ein großer Fehler. Die App ist im Magazinbereich extrem langsam und schlecht organisiert!

From super app to worst new app
Why change a running system? The old app was exactly like the print issue and now it is totally chaotic, unstructured and user unfriendly - no longer fun to read. Really bad.
“Kiosk” App better
I pay for a SPIEGEL subscription and enjoyed reading the magazine in the old “Kiosk” app. The look & feel of the new app is way inferior to the old one. In addition, it seems many articles are missing (reading the PDF is not an option!) which was not the case in the old app. I am seriously thinking about cancelling my subscription.
Misleading Ratings
If one selects five stars in the app, one is prompted to rate on the App Store. If one selects a low rating in the app, one is prompted to send an email. That artificially inflates the App Store rating.
Needs dark mode support
Otherwise reading in the evening is a strain on the eyes!
Tracking und Anzeigen trotz PUR-Abo
Ich zahle für ein PUR-Abo, das angeblich „ganz ohne Werbetracking und praktisch werbefrei“ ist. Und trotzdem zeigt mir die App immer wieder Anzeigen an, die als „aus diesem Ressort“ getarnt sind, und schickt mich zu Spiegel-Artikeln auf Google-Servern, wo natürlich Google überwachen will. Was soll das?

This is the latest problem with this app. Makes no sense.
Please fix the page loading and crashing issues
While the content is informative, the App for iPad is a disaster. Halfway through reading an article the page goes blank for now apparent reason. Going back from an article to the home page, often results in the same blank page. Please find app developers that know what they are doing. Looks like the competition could.
New app is awful
Used to be a great, easy to navigate news app. Now it is a pop-up monster that I will use much less.
No English
I downed this app.all I get is in German but it was in English.i can’t find howtochange the language?

They claim that their app support English Language but the whole layout and buttons are all in German! Not to mention the content
No online support after cookie problem
After the app changed settings and needed support for cookie settings, I cannot access the app anymore for free. One minute to the next the app didn’t work anymore.
The given tutorials only referred to online browsers such as chrome, but not to the iOS app itself.
Emailed support and they sent an automatic reply saying they could not help me - without even looking at the email.
Will use another news app from now on!

Start the article in English, then all is in German!
I really miss the articles in english! The new format is frustrating, since you tease us first in english and then with one click we see only german on a page which appears to be a request for a subscription. Sorry, don’t read german. Bye bye
Audio and Login issues
When playing audio stories under SPIEGEL Plus, playback stops when the iPhone enters lock, making the feature I pay for unusable. In the past, this used to work.
Also, why, as a subscriber, do I always have to login again, when I try to access SPIEGEL+?
Please fix this!

Terrible
Unfortunately this new format just reinforces that SPIEGEL is on the way down. Articles without relevance that should be - if at all presented - suddenly start the presentation, clumsy efforts to force you into payable content ... I only award one star as zero stars are not awardable. Really disappointed and partly disgusted.

Davor war sie Seite übersichtlich strukturiert und man konnte schnell zu den Inhalten navigieren. Das ist jetzt mit dem neuen Layout dahin. Leider!!!!

Auch wenn bottom navs ihren Vorteil haben, so sollten die Labels relativ zur gewählten Schriftgelehrte angepasst werden. Wenn ich ne große Schrift fuer den Kontent ausgewählt habe, dann will ich keine 10px Schrift für die Labels der Bottom nav icons.
Just use the website this app is only a “wrapper”
I’m a subscriber and every time I open the app to have to enter my login details. There isn’t a bookmark feature or a history (most recent article read). I believe this app is just a “wrapper” a portal to the der Spiegel website. Better luck and usability simply reading on your laptop or via a web browser. (This is only a critique of the functions of the app, as news source Der Spiegel is a benchmark in German media. )
Used to be better...
The last few versions have not removed but introduced bugs. Clicking on an article, reading it maybe half way, and it goes blank with no recovery... I think it has to do with ads loading/blocked by iOS as I have ad related issues with the web version too... it’s a shame, used to be my favorite news app
Nur noch Mittelmaß
Nach dem Update lese ich den Spiegel ca. 50 Prozent weniger am Tag. Das App Design Team muss im Lehrmaterial der 90er geblättert haben, als es diese neue App entwickelt hat. Das Look & Feel ist sehr altmodisch und die Navigation ist umständlich im Vergleich zur Vorgängerversion. Zusätzlich sind die Inhalte und deren Positionierung meiner Ansicht nach anders. Eine perfekte App wurde so zum Mittelmaß.
