Takes too long
I can see why I didn’t play this game for too long when I first installed it. I redownloaded this game on a bored whim, saw I had no progression beyond having only one dragon, and decided to give it another try. And honestly, this game is ridiculous towards new players. It shouldn’t take twelve hours to breed what are basically the beginner dragons, and another twelve to hatch them. Especially if the results are just common rarity dragons. Everything takes so much time, between breeding, hatching, and upgrading and buying buildings, so much more than other dragon collecting games I’ve played, which at least ramp up in their time requirements more gradually. I get that having things take a while promotes spending to speed things up, but this is so demotivating for new players and makes progress feel so slow that it doesn’t feel worth it to keep playing, in addition to being boring. Open the game, finish breeding, collect materials, and then close the game for another really long while until your egg can hatch. At least, that’s how it feels to me, YMMV. I’m sure for players at higher levels there’s probably more to do, but for new players, I can’t imagine many would be willing to stick around to get there or even spend money to speed the process up.
And on a more personal note, if that’s not annoying enough, I somehow got two eggs I cannot hatch because their habitat apparently requires what I feel is a ludicrous amount of the game’s premium currency, so my hatchery is basically handicapped to hatching only one egg at a time until I get enough currency to upgrade it again. (And yes, I do see I can place those two as egg decorations instead, but I shouldn’t have to!)
Sorry for the long review. TLDR: everything takes so freaking long for a new player that I’m bored almost immediately.

Genuinely horrible. So many issues top to bottom. DragonCity in my opinion is way better. The races are the best part and they suck. You can have the elements correct and hit all perfects and still lose. Why play a game ur destined to lose. No point. Dragon city lets you battle. Use ur dragons and much more. DragonVale I wish upgraded but it’s the same as it was in 2012

Been playing happily for many years - this latest update is a complete disaster - ALL 433 GC Friends have vanished !
And the update isn’t even optional - it’s a forced update required to open the game. How can you release an update like this without a fix, and require the update knowing what it will do to all of us ???

What a mess!
Good game ruined…
While fixing most problems with the ADs, this last update obliterated my friend list. All FB friends are gone including my deceased brother, my kids and grandkids that have moved on to other interests in games. While I didn’t send them gems, I could still visit their parks and tap on party hats, and I could use their dragons in contests in the special events. Now it’s just me and grandpa exchanging a gem every day. Why can’t I send my one friend all 7 gems I have? You say the Dragonsai tree and bush allows us to send MORE GEMS to our friends but that is a lie. Actually it only allows us to send a single gem to MORE FRIENDS. I don’t want more friends. I want to send more gems to Grandpa.
12 yrs ago: After struggling with other sim games crashing and losing earnings, it is always a pleasure to visit my dragons. This game is stable and well written with great graphics. The dragons just keep getting better, more animated, and more interesting. There are no gimmicks for getting us to spend money in in-app purchases because the game itself is so much fun on it's own, we usually end up buying gems at some point anyway.

If you haven’t already started playing…..DONT!!!
Back when this game first came out under Backflip Studios it was really fun! The events felt meaningful and Backflip seemed to actually care about its player base! This company, however, care only for money and it’s all but ruined this amazing game. STAY AWAY FROM THIS DEV!
Purchasing items
This game is absolutely horrible about taking my money and not giving me what I bought and honestly I find it disgusting they would scam and profit off of people who just want to play childhood games if you download don’t buy anything
Offerwall is a scam
Offerwall games will mark rewards as achieved/rewarded but will not actually provide gems. DragonVale support and Tapjoy support are both impossible to contact… don’t waste your time playing.

15 minute load time
With WI-FI, full bare service or both, you have to wait 15-20 minutes just to load in.
Ads never work
Fix the ads. Don’t put them in the game if they’re constantly not going to work.

Money hungry, have to wait ridiculous amount of time and only wants youmto buy gems or play a dif game for gems but then takes off the offer so you dont get anything

My game will not open. I have tried all of the suggestions and I have emailed support with no answers. I was enjoying this game but now cannot even get it open.
Bad update!!!!!
I just updated my app with three days left in the winter wizorts and I’ve pretty much lost everything!!!!!! I can only see my islands and my breeding incubation times there’s a few spotty graphics!!!! It’s mostly blacked out… this is horrible. I emailed support but who knows how long that will take. I have no way to finish out this event!!!
It is still broken- will this ever be fixed?
I have played this game off and on for years, and have played with about 10 family members at one time or another. I am a big fan! My main park is stuck at 185, my second park is at about 80, and they are both still broken!
Crystalline love needed
We need more space for crystalline dragons, a way to get more habitats, the limit is too low. Please add
Nothing to Do
I really love the idea of breeding and collecting dragons, but as a beginner player there is really not a lot to do. I got a few dragons, but don’t have room to expand and I need an exorbitant amount of gems to do anything. I only check in once or twice a day and it feels like I’ll never get anywhere unless I spend money. There needs to be more incentive for a new player to play free, otherwise it creates mistrust in how expensive everything will be.
Ads don’t work
This is a great game, but ads never work. This is the only game I have this issue with. It happens on multiple devices. It is a widely reported issue across message boards. The timer runs out and there is no X to exit the ad. I have tried to tap all of the corners, etc. nothing. I have to force quit the game. I am missing daily ad rewards. This needs to be fixed. I will not watch adds or in-app purchase ever again. I cannot recommend the game for this reason. Backflip always took care of customer service. The game was bought out by Hasbro/Deca and customer service is lacking.
Needs fix for in-app purchase
Everytime I make an in-app purchase it doesn’t give me the item but I make the purchase again and it goes through. I end up getting charged twice please fix this.
Won’t work
I’ve been playing this game for years and all of a sudden I cannot open to game. I have updated my phone, reset it, deleted and updated the app, but to no avail my app still crashes anytime I try to even open the game. I don’t understand what happened but it’s very annoying!
2 minute ads
This went from one of my favorite games to one I play twice a day. The ads are the problem. You can watch an ad and then get a message saying ‘Sorry, Tolzar turned the wrong dial” and not get the credit, even though you watched the ad. About 2 weeks ago, 2 minute ads started and it takes another 10 seconds for the ‘x’ to work. I know ads are necessary for game play but this game is trashed with ridiculous ads now! 14 years of happiness destroyed by greed! 5 star to 2 star.
Ai marketing
Clearly they have great artists and thr game is fun. Docking 3 whole stars because the ai is so foul
It takes forever
It takes me like, a full 6 minutes to load my park. And I love the game but it takes FOREVER to open everytime which makes me wanna not play.
