1 star. This app is clunky, glitchy, and frustrating to use as a sports fan. I was kicked out of the Wimbledon match I was watching multiple times and then forced back to the homepage to find the match again and figure out where I had left off. There is no helpful Back or Continue Watching option.
Worse, going back to the homepage exposed me to a Wimbledon headline that spoiled the match I was actively trying to finish. For a paid sports streaming app, that is unacceptable. ESPN’s name is on this app, but the actual viewing experience is not designed well for people trying to watch live or catch up on matches without spoilers.

Bugged
I have ESPN unlimited. Over half of the Wimbledon matches wont load or will drip after 5 minutes of streaming.
How can you gate keep nearly every match behind your most expensive subscription and then NOT BE ABLE TO DELIVER IT.

Recently when I log on , the top events show yesterday events. This really is bad.
Shams notifications
These NBA notifications from Shams are driving me nuts. Never signed up for these, have taken multiple steps to turn it off and they keep coming
The WORST
One of the crappiest apps out there. What do you mean I cannot watch Wimbledon because “screen sharing enabled”. Meanwhile, I’m not screen sharing whatsoever and the app works fine on my phone but not iPad. I hate that 3/4 Grand Slams are broadcasted by ESPN. HBO Max was even better than this. Even last year, there were constant issues with trying to view a match and the broadcast would randomly cut off in the early round matches because of “technical issues”. Then they rolled out the tiered memberships for Grand Slam final matches because they’ve monopolized on these tournaments. I sincerely wish the broadcasting rights would go back to TennisChannel.

Phone blows up
I would like to see some updates and news about sports but my phone keeps getting notifications about sports I don't care about. Words can't describe how much I don't care about golf or the WNBA but I keep getting notifications for it. I'm uninstalling. Thanks for waking me up at night and flooding my phone with useless news.

New update could be either good or bad but I wouldn’t be able to tell anyone since the app crashes the second I try to scroll.
Buggy mess
Horrible buggy mess, impossible to just watch a simple broadcast without ads breaking and freezing. Broadcasts constantly get interrupted and require user action to reset

Your developers should be ashamed. It’s perennially the worst app around. Want to read an article? Good luck! We’ll just route you to a completely different one when you tap on it. Back buttons? Naaahhh, we’ll go against every other app standard. - Whoever runs your tech, it’s time to move on. Find someone else
Could be so much better
The pay for content is a money grab. I never subscribe because the content can be found at other sources.
There are many little things that can be added. For example, during World Cup, in the list of matches being played today, the site of the match is never shown, nor the teams’ current tournament record with points.
Another missing detail, and something that I would find interesting, is the advancement scenario.

Take the AI search away
I just want to find a bracket or team, not only is the ai search completely unnecessary but it’s not supported in all regions so I can’t even use it in certain countries

Why am I getting notifications about the NBA? I’m not following any NBA team. It’s bad enough that I get too much league news because I follow teams in that league. Cut the noise.

I pay for ESPN in like four different ways and can quite literally never get the damn streaming to work on my phone. I login through Xfinity which is one of the ways I pay for ESPN. It almost never loads and always gets stuck on the “congrats you are logged in” page
MLB on ESPN
MLB via ESPN is a terrible experience given the money paid to view games. Attempting to view games via the ESPN app is difficult, especially if you travel around the US as I do! MLB needs to have its antitrust exemption revoked to get back to allowing fans to simply “watch” baseball.

A company with their reputation should be capable of producing a half decent application. Streams constantly having issues and feature on the app are mediocre. Also incredibly complicated to find popular streams. Terrible.

Not very good
This app has potential. For some reason would not work consistently for me. I had to hard shut down the app multiple times to read articles. Since they added the vert shorts, I would only see LeBron videos. Not sure what that was about. I have deleted the app. Will not be adding back to my phone.

I have both an ESPN + and subscribe to ESPN and it still tries to get me to subscribe without the option to log in.
Terrible UI update
Who’s the genius that decided to change how team sheets/line ups are displayed for soccer? That person is terrible at their job. What was wrong with the way it used to be displayed? It was compact, showed the full team sheet (including the bench) and formation. This new look was created by someone that never watched any sports, nor do they know how humans consume data. Just overall terrible.

App won’t let you navigate it without enabling alerts and it’s Annoying I use my phone for work don’t need to be interrupted by a alert
Won’t work on iPad
App will not work on two different, recent model iPads with current IOS. Works once when delete the app and download again, then freezes halfway when reopen. Works slightly better on iPhone. I’ve deleted the app on iPads. No longer worth fighting this mess that’s been going on for at least the past two months.

I have no idea how this app is rated so highly as I have never had it work properly in the last 5-7 years? Doesn’t even remotely work, always slow, very glitchy. I only ever find myself on it when I google something and the espn article takes me straight to this terrible app. App sucks.

Overall, terrible app can’t even use it for what it’s intended to be used for.

I’m not a fan of ESPN and I hope they lose their tennis contracts.
Font size
The font on the app for headlines and scores is much more readable. Perhaps they are getting closer to adjustable font within articles. Still haven’t improved the font 2 years later 🤷 Are there any plans to allow for the change of font size? This may be the only app that I use where you can’t adjust the size. This app has been around for a long time and still the same size font is the only one available
Poor Performance
I love sports, and I love the ESPN app however the performance is just bad. Random freezes, crashes, and stutters make it a pain to navigate and use.
Furthermore, I have a 50/50 chance to actually make a button work to toggle a notification. Half the time it shows that it is toggled on, before switching back in front of me.

Replay sucks
This is a fine app, loads okay, but when our internet glitches, and we want to resume where we left off on a show, it doesn’t keep the memory. We have to start it from the beginning. It’s really dumb and frustrating. Especially when watching a live event, we have to skip through everything all over again to get to the spot we left off.
Freezes
Every time the tournament goes to commercials it freezes up. I only use the app until I can watch it on cable.. it’s an ongoing problem I wished they would fix.
Crashes Every Day
Not sure how this has such a high rating. I listen to ESPN radio for 6-8 hours everyday and it crashes at least once a day especially at the top of the hour or when shows change. Love the content but the app doesn’t live up to the network. And yes, I have super reliable high speed internet, it’s just the app.
