Ok, Google, how hard is it to make an app that recognises the letter ё?
Plain wrong translations. Especially since they seemingly implemented ai into it, became recognisably more inaccurate, making me switch & write this review, since accurate translations & the ability to recognise ALL letters of the Russian alphabet are important to me as someone who uses translators on a day to day basis. Very disappointed

Inconsistent translations
I’m in Mexico with my partner and she’s using a different translation app. When I use Google trans I’m finding that I’m getting different results from what she is. So for I’m trusting her app more and Google for less. Unfortunate.

It can use to have conversations with people speaks different language easily, but now you cannot without switching.
Text Only Live Translation doesn’t work anymore
The Live Translation Text Only option is just dead. It will work once after installing the app, but the 2nd or 3rd time it just fails to produce any text. The hack to get it to work is to uninstall or delete the app and reinstall. I’ve tried toggling various options (logged in or not, downloaded language or not), it doesn’t matter. It used to work fine a week or so ago, not now.
Edit to add: The “text only” option now plays audio translations. They ruined this app. Hopefully they fix it.

New update sucks!!!
Latest update sucks! It’s a four step process to translate anything now and it doesn’t do it as you select. I’d you just want text, it still speaks it to you! Apple translate works much better
Bugged
App was working just fine and now won’t pick up anything for transcription. Mix settings are all fine and the light at the bottom blinks and responds as if it’s hearing it yet no transcription happens on screen.
App needs serious updates
The app is supposed to translate based on what you are saying but if there is the smallest amount of ambient noise it hangs and won’t translate. There needs to be a button to force the app to translate what you said vs just hope it does it

Where’s the “New Translation” button?!
Where’s the “New Translation” button?! This was essential for one-handed use when using the app as aid to translate while reading on the move.

Newest update has completely screwed up the app making it beyond frustrating to try to have a conversation with someone.

Goggle announced on march 27 the live translate is live on iOS but match 30th today I don’t see it still.

This newest update that Google did to their Translate app is straight trash. The worst thing they could’ve done is changed this app. I have been using this in work with so much ease until today. This used to be a 10 star app now it is dropped to zero in my opinion. The new update ruins conversations. I think this is the worst thing that Google has done in at least a year.

Last update ruined it!
I have used this app for the last 4 years, every day. Conversation mode is a joke. It no longer goes to auto voice for translation. As a world traveler, I have used this app extensively and it has gotten worse with every update.

Why did the big blue “New Translation” button disappear? Please bring it back.
Horrible for languages like Japanese
Google translate will give you the literal translation that is overly complicated and omit context for Japanese, which has a lot of implications and varying levels of politeness. Google Translate gets it wrong 100% of the time. best to use deepl.
Live translate doesn’t say the text out loud
I need the translate app to translate out loud what they are saying to me. It’s not working so they have to read it off the app. One star until it works

The new UI is fine except for the floating new translation button. It is usually in the way of the submit/copy buttons and frequently results in a translation getting deleted

Translation from a still image of printed text is an abysmal failure.
The app attempts to fit translated text over source text in multiple fonts sizes when the source text is a single size. In the process, there is overlapping or lost text.
The old interface which allowed selected source text to be translated was much better and at least functional.
It still doesn’t allow pasting a photograph. Importing a photograph is an afterthought rather than a standard feature.
In short, if you’re working from images with a lot of text, this translator cannot handle the task.
The feature which allows changing the source and target languages has been removed.
It it no longer possible to adjust the source language to make a correction, try to find the correct or closest language, or translate a text containing words from more than one language.
As of 2026, it is impossible to take a phrase and translate it into another language just by changing the target language.
It's like the people making the user interface are clueless about why people use Translate.

Can’t click new translation
Something happened during an update. Every time I try to do a translation, I have to click “home” to get my keyboard to appear instead of clicking “new translation “

Вы специально сделали кнопку +добавить перевод именно в том месте, где кнопка скопировать? Чтобы у меня не было возможности скопировать перевод. У вас редкая и извращенная форма издевательства. Сделайте пожалуйста эту кнопку ещё больше, чтобы и сам текст закрывался, а то весь смысл излевательства немного падает. Но идея закрывать элементы отличная, не останавливайтесь.

What have they done to it?
I used to love this app. It didn’t always translate perfectly but it was a dream to use and came close enough. The last update changed the interface with a lot of side bar switching and now there’s all this white space on the iPad screen with nothing functional, meanwhile things like switching the direction of the translation are hidden. Too many taps to get anything done. I can’t believe this was considered an improvement. I’m looking for a new translation app until this gets fixed.
Not very good.
It kinda sucks. It will only work sometimes. Even when you have good service. The ai conversation mode doesn’t work at all.
It’s gone downhill even for basic languages
Even Spanish has gone downhill it says words that aren’t meant to be said. I would recommend a peer review with experts in Spanish on translation to have the correct translation among many others. For this to be Google Translate this is poor quality.
What has happen to this app??
This app was the best translating app out. The last few updates has made the app pretty much useless. I hope that the next update will fix it that I will translate after the speaker stops taking😡
