Why can’t I search my watchlist by movie genre anymore? It was the best thing about your app. I could find a movie based on what I was feeling that night. Please bring this back

Bugs
The ‘what’s on tonight’ notifications have been an issue for months now. Sometimes you get them and then other times it just stops for months. This doesn’t encourage me to want to upgrade to pro especially because this is the main function I use this app for. Depending on who you get in support it’s always a different answer as to why this is happening. If the rep even understands the issue or that it’s ongoing to begin with.

Parents Guide hard to find and mostly eliminated
I used the look at the Parents Guide before I watched any show or movie to check violence levels because I cannot handle any more violence. But they moved it so it’s harder to find and most shows and movies don’t even have any ratings listed. This app is useless to me now.
decent site, poor interface
The new UI from a few years ago is still just a “cleaner looking” downgrade of the old one. News section is worthless close to 80% of the time. No more message boards. But that’s not the point here, the point is that signing in no longer works. The app takes me to one of those web pop ups instead of allowing me to sign in on the app, so then I sign in there and the app doesn’t seem to have kept track of this and I am thrown into a repeating loop.
Disappointing Censorship
IMDb’s user review system now heavily censors honest opinions. Accurate critiques are blocked if they mention certain buzzwords, criticize diversity-focused casting decisions negatively, or express views on protected characteristics-even when fact-based and relevant to the film’s quality or agenda. You can’t discuss real issues like forced ideological elements without your review being rejected. This stifles genuine discussion and makes ratings less trustworthy. Disappointing for a site meant to reflect real user views.
Intrusive Ads
The ads are obnoxiously intrusive. It’s one thing to have ads, but they pop all over your screen and make it so hard to even use the app. Absolutely terrible!

Ads Make it Unusable
I hate to be that guy, “literally unusable” but IMDb has added ads that take up literally half the screen at times, and the UI is terrible. Ads load slow so that accidental clicks redirect off the page. Have had IMDb for probably 10 years, just deleted. I’ll Google my movie facts from here on out.
Very slow “your rating”
When one opens a title the “your rating” takes forever to display. Further searching any title in search bar displays the title and doesn’t have any indicator like use has already rated it. For me I come to IMDb to check title ratings to determine if I want to see a title and lot of times if I have watched and rated a title it takes lot of time to check (providing visual indicator in search bar for searched title would definitely be helpful. Atleast fixing the slow loading of your rating on opened title page reduces users time)
Slow and laggy
New update is trash. It gives spinning wheels while loading EVERYTHING. Layout sucks.
Sign in way too intrusive and clunky
It took me 15 min to sign in cause the stupid notice always screws up any searches, can Amazon give IMDb to big boy company that knows how to operate apps better

Updated review: I was forced to update the app because the old version of app stopped loading new data. I held out as long as possible. (Feb 2026)
Original review: I don’t like the changes to the app layout. Seems to change in some small but unhelpful way on a semi-regular basis, so I always run the oldest version possible… I never update this app, but I did by accident today, and I immediately regretted it. (iOS 15 era)

Do something about the review bombing of Breaking Bad’s former 10/10 episode that is now a 9.6/10 at the time of this review and the review bombing of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Until then I will not be using IMDb. Spread the word.

Used To Be My Go To App
Now the GUI is not user friendly. Search bar is in wrong place. Trying to read user reviews box is too small and you get kicked back to beginning of listing for no apparent reason. It has moved Upcoming movies so far down the list it’s not worth using anymore. It is geared itself totally to social media which by nature is chaotic. I only use the app as a link from the app Sofa Time for single checks of content. Overall it is just a mass of boxes that I do not have the time to sort through. Not efficient at all.
Fix it!
February 2026: as of this review I have had to deal with the IMDb app making me sign back in every 2 to 3 times I access the app. This has been going on for many many many months now. In this age of technology why is something so simple so absolutely difficult for you guys?
Trailer issues
Whenever I tried to watch trailers all I see is a black screen and hear the audio only. That happens after the ads and after watching the first trailer with no issues
Ads everywhere, it's a joke
I thought the ads were so horrible before. You would always accidentally click on one when scrolling and it would launch you too some ridiculous Expedia page or something. Then I accidentally updated the app and the ads are now SO much worse! Wow, I didn't think they could get more intrusive or annoying, but the latest update accomplished that. Now they have sticky ads that stick to the top when you scroll. I almost feel like this is an experiment to see how many ads they can squeeze in the UX before people finally stop using it. Well here's one person deleting the app. It's just way to obnoxious.

IMDb is a database - it’s in your NAME!! Search is literally the only reason I use this app - but I use it all the time. I’d even pay a small annual fee for that privilege until AI takes it from you.
But moving the search icon and requiring two taps just to see recent searches is absurd. I don’t come here for engagement. I come for quick information… I can’t be alone in this.

Manipulation! Holding off reviews
Melania has been out for 3 days now. They say there are not enough reviews and did not even attempt to put up what critics said. This film bombed any anywhere else shows how much people hated it. It has sold next to no tickets even in areas thought to do well. Why? IMDb is owned by Amazon. Amazon paid for the film. Won’t ever trust this webpage/app again.

I’m on iPhone 13 Pro and have all notifications turned off and yet my phone is getting bombarded with NOW STREAMING notifications. Make it stop please.

Tracking your place in a series is difficult-there have been improvements, but still “workaround-ish”. No way to mark, view and manage “not interested” titles. On iPad, navigational menus are inconveniently at top of screen and app does not play well with multitasking. Custom lists maintenance-no way to select and/or move multiple items. Many actions require much tapping and finger traveling. Long-press and swipe actions are limited. Powerhouse users with long lists, ratings, etc, will experience slow page loading.

You can’t get the watchlist notifications without also getting advertising push notifications.

Can’t find where I can watch the shows. I’m looking and looking and looking I spend more time looking to see where I can watch a show. It’s just maddening. You can’t find where you watch the show.
Salty Users
I know that I’ll eventually leave IMDb a good review. They’ve almost fixed everything for me. It’s one of my favorite apps. They’ve taken away a lot of the obvious bot reviews and allowed for less censored user reviews. Every successful app has ads, I don’t care about them. But please IMDb, my last request: stop letting users go from one of your reviews on a random film or show to your main account. I have users that won’t like one of my unpopular or contrarian reviews that will then go to my main account and dislike all of my other popular reviews. Please don’t allow for this broad access anymore.
This app is becoming an issue.
I love IMDb, and I’ve loved this app, but in one of the most recent updates, if there is an ad on a page, it will auto open your browser and take you to the ad’s site. I find this to be totally inappropriate, notwithstanding that I actually pay for an account anyway. This is one of the most underhanded advertising practices I’ve seen in a major app. If I want to open the ad, I’ll click it, you don’t have to force me to. Considering deleting if this continues.
