I signed up for Jumpspeak and paid for a subscription, but all I’ve ever received from the company are marketing-ish emails from an unmonitored address. No information about how to use my subscription, and when I open the app, it just tries to sell me a subscription.
I’ve reached out to the company a couple of ways over the last two weeks, but there’s been no reply.
It seems like the developer just put this app out there and is letting it run on AI autopilot.
This would partially be Apple’s fault, too, for not having better quality control. Speaking of which, the charge to my card didn’t go through Apple’s system, so I can’t request a refund via Apple.
All of the replies to negative reviews in the app store sound very formulaic, and not-so-helpfully just direct the reviewer to the help page. Probably AI-generated.
At this point my only recourse is to reverse the charge via my credit card.
Sean, if you’re reading this and you’re a real person, you can’t just expect to get recurring revenue from an app without there being any humans in the loop. That’s just wrong.

I signed up for the language app, and then this company automatically enrolled me without my knowledge or consent into a monthly subscription service. this was to a company with a different name - RYPE inc so i did not spot it and theyve taken thousands of dollars from me! i've emailed them to say ive reported them to the FTC and want a refund for the unauthorised charges. They've responded to my review on another platform and asked me to email them again, but then have ignored my email for over 6 weeks. AVOID

Need a variety of voices
I liked Jumpspeak in the beginning but now EVERY single lesson in Spain Spanish features the voice of an abuela and it’s really annoying. It’s getting worse and worse. Please fix this. I don’t mind sometimes but it’s EVERY LESSON.

Unhelpful & confusing for beginners
I found JumpSpeak’s AI integration more frustrating than helpful. The AI conversation partners feel unnatural and sometimes creepy, and the role-playing exercises are especially poor. The AI frequently ignores what I say, responds to unrelated comments, or goes completely off-topic, making conversations confusing rather than educational. This is particularly unhelpful for beginners who need accurate, relevant feedback. To make matters worse, obtaining my money-back guarantee refund has been extremely difficult. Customer service appears nearly nonexistent, and I receive daily emails saying they are overwhelmed and unable to respond.

Charged Without Notice
I had a very disappointing experience with Jumpspeak’s renewal practices. I was charged for a subscription renewal without receiving any notice beforehand. There was no reminder email, no clear warning, and no meaningful opportunity to cancel before the charge went through.
For a company selling a language-learning product, transparency and trust should be a priority. Instead, the renewal process felt like it was designed to catch customers off guard. The cancellation and refund process was also frustrating, which only made the experience worse.
I would strongly caution others against doing business with companies that use renewal practices like this. Customers deserve clear advance notice before being charged, and the lack of transparency in this process left me with little confidence in the company.

The "AI chat" is a scam
Truly awful. I downloaded this app specifically to have AI conversations, but the feature is terrible. The conversations are just scripts you can't deviate from. If you ask extra questions or give detailed answers, the character you were conversing with does not acknowledge or understand them. Often, it will ask a question I've already answered. Straight garbage. Waste of money.

I jumped on this app through an offer on Facebook. For some reason, my account on “the web” is actually different than my account in “the app” - customer support did not even respond to my request for assistance. So, I’m not a satisfied customer by any means.
I read about all the great AI “stuff” that was part of this app… except for what I initially bought (which was “premium” - the product sold through the Facebook offer) - and it did not include “AI” (actually “Premium AI” - which was an ad-on. It basically doubled the cost of my original purchase.
But… here’s the thing… I really want the product to work so I’m hopeful that these initial issues get sorted out quickly.

I’ve tried several apps and found the on boarding for this one to be ridiculous. 15 minutes of saying no to multiple expensive add-ons, which, if I had actually bought them all would bring the price into the hundreds. When I didn’t enjoy the app there was no way to cancel it on the site and I’ve been waiting almost 2 weeks for someone to reimburse me, and honor the 100 day moneyback guarantee. I didn’t like the functionality set much either. Way better options out there.

I'm trying "Newbie" in French and I'm just watching very involved conversations using all sorts of words not covered in my classes yet. But this is the second lesson, teaching you how to say "oui" along with 5 other basic words?
The content for the level of student is insane and the developers need to research how comprehensible input works. Its when people learn by association and can build vocabulary.
This app is telling people to learn 6 words and then have a broken experience attempting a conversation with AI. The app even tried to have me skip it, suggesting the developers know this is broken too.
This app is not good at what it does and I have to pay over $50 to use the app for 5 minutes to determine this. Cancelling immediately at least but my money is gone

I saw the advertise my Facebook so I went on and signed up and paid. After I paid then take it to another page. It says oh you version because the version we just sold, you has virtually no benefits that we just advertised. Then they double the price if you actually want to get any benefit out of it. Then they add on for a master class to actually get the lessons. And then they offer you a ton of other things the total of which could add up to $6000 per year. I finally finished and they said that I should download the app and wait for an email. I download the app. I never get an email and then every time I try to do anything on the app they just keep trying to get me to buy something else. Horrible.

Don’t waste your money
While there are some helpful aspects of breaking up longer phrases into a couple words at a time, my general experience was pretty terrible. I was promised AI conversations. There was lots of bugs, things were pretty out of order, and overall they just have a lot of work to do. Duolingo Max can do the same thing but better (in my experience). For reference, I am learning German (A2). At this point, I’m just going to pay for private lessons or hop on discord to talk to strangers in German.

Good ideas, poor implementation
I think Jumpspeak has all the right components for a modern language learning toolbox, but the implementation is so poor that I chose to refund my lifetime subscription.
Why? What did I expect? What went wrong?
Brief background: I went back to a junior college about 25 years ago to learn spanish and took 2 years of classes. The fifth class was conversation and I just couldn't do it, could not understand what was said, then creating a response - too much thought at every turn. I had to drop my first class in 7 years of college even though I had A's in every spanish class, did the extra work, etc.
Speaking spanish became important to me again, so I did some research to try to figure out why I failed before and what could help me be successful. Jumpspeak had all the right tools, a good price, and a great trial. When I used it, there was a lot of hand holding, and you had complete freedom of movement. But gads man, the bugs. I detailed over 35 bugs and sent to the company because it made the app so tedious to use that I would never get my reps in to make speech automatic.
Jumpspeak was always prompt and cordial and these are not tragic bugs - they are simple to fix - but the question is WHY WEREN"T THEY? There must be some new company funk between dev, product, and qa, or the ceo hasn't found his non-negotiables yet. Anyway, this could be a nice product... but 6 months later, now that I am conversational in Spanish and am considering my next language, I wouldn't use a tool like this.
This is how I will approach my next language:
1. Learn to produce the phonemic inventory
2. Learn fundamental labels: counting, alphabet, months, days, etc.
3. Learn the 1000 most common words - Anki.
4. Start immersion - children's TV, CEFR leveled youtubes, Duolingo, etc.
5. Learn basic high school grammar
6. Advance immersion level - young adult video and music, magazines, books
7. Library conversation clubs & community / travel immersion
8. Maintenance
Anki is the foundational memorization tool for building vocabulary. Duolingo is still in the mix because I can sit with it an hour a day and not get bored AND that allows massive reps in reading, writing, listening and speaking. It literally took me from 25 year-ago-knowledge to conversational spanish in 180 days.
Important to note - jumpspeak is not in the mix. It is comfortable, parts of it are well done, I was really attracted to the dialog coaches, there is a lot of hand holding. But when I get down to learning my next language, it doesn't provide any of the tools I actually use.

False advertisement
I want to learn Vietnamese, a friend of mine showed me his Spanish version and it actually taught you. So, my mistake, I paid for a year which was almost $90. When I got into Vietnamese, it doesn’t teach you anything. There are no guided lessons. All it does is let you text back back-and-forth, it has lots of information, but it does not teach you. It doesn’t even use my microphone, even though it asked me for permission for the microphone. All I can do is text. I requested a refund twice after less than 24 hours and was denied. I don’t recommend this for anyone.

Stick with Duolingo or Pimsleur
Like many people, I tried this app after seeing multiple advertisements on Instagram.
1. The hundred percent refundable guarantee is a joke. When I tried to cancel, I got no money back, but I do see that my subscription will end 12 months from when I signed up.
2. The AI hasn’t been properly vetted. When trying to have a “conversation” the AI will respond in ways that are nonsensical and bizarre.
3. There seems to be no rhyme no reason to how they define their categories. When using the session on medical advice, all of the sudden I was getting hit on as if I were in a dating profile.
4. The speech recognition is not good. I have tried in both Norwegian and Spanish. My pronunciation in both languages is actually pretty good, but the AI would turn my words into something totally unrecognizable, and then would still respond to something different. So not only was I not being understood, the AI didn’t even respond to what it thought I had said.
I apologize for the length of this review, I sincerely advise you to not try at this point until they get a serious upgrade to their product.

Do not get!!
This is by far the very worst language learning app I have ever used in my entire life. I got it because of the constant advertisements on social media and them slamming Duolingo. But in my opinion, I've learned much more conversational Japanese and 60 days on Duolingo than any other app. This one teaches you four words then expects you to translate an entire paragraph that contains one of those words and the feed back it does give will be filled with the writing in that language knowing full well it hasnt taught you any of the writing for that language. It does not explain how grammar and sentence structure is used and they also advertise that they teach you how to speak like a local but use words that I have never heard the locals use. The price is extremely high as well. Any good reviews of this app are a total lie. Save your damn money this app is a complete waste!

Don’t believe the fake reviews for this app. It is super glitchy, difficult to learn, and doesn’t make sense. It’s probably completely written by AI since lots of the “lessons” don’t make sense and they let you go through without learning anything. This app is terrible, don’t waste your money
After 6 years on Duolingo I needed to move on because I was just reviewing material I had already learned. I had high hopes for Jumpspeak in terms of having conversations. It’s horrible. The role plays are a joke. The AI clearly has preprogrammed responses and does not respond to what I say. It doesn’t offer open ended questions that allow me to compose an intelligent response. The feedback it gives on my responses clearly indicates that it expected something specific that was not in keeping with what I meant. Sometimes it asks you to provide a missing word when there is no word actually missing Just today I got an email quiz that gave answers in English rather than Spanish. When I wrote back to customer service regarding my dissatisfaction I was told they were sorry I was unhappy with the app. That was the extent of the customer service. It’s ridiculous. People who are giving this app high ratings are not learning good Spanish and they don’t even know it. Go to Duolingo if you want to actually learn decent Spanish

Total scam. I agreed to pay $79 a year and they have been charging me $295 a month.
I signed up for a free trial for a $79/year app subscription - that's on me. But they hid a clause in the receipt email saying they had "enrolled me" in an additional free trial for a $295 a month tuition package. Without my knowledge or consent this locked me into an extra invisible subscription charging me $295 a month from my PayPal account.
Jumpspeak sent me confirmations about the $79 annual charge but never any notification about the $295 monthly charges. This is an illegal practice and I reported it to the FTC. I emailed Jumpspeak support explaining I had never subscribed to the tuition plan, never received payment confirmations, never accessed the tuition account, and that it was not disclosed in the original advertisement.
They responded by falsely claiming they had emailed me payment confirmations, and saying tuition plans are non-refundable under their T&Cs. I am currently seeking legal advice

I downloaded this app because I was intrigued by the idea that it allows you to have “real conversations.” There are no real conversations. The app gives you a bunch of stock phrases, then it takes one side, and has you repeat the phrases it gave you in response. There’s no opportunity to develop your own responses. There’s no unpredictability in what the app is going to say. It’s also really bad at recognizing speech.

This app lures you in with appealing trial pricing, but be careful they automatically renew your subscription without sending any reminder email. I used the app for about 2 weeks and found it boring and nowhere near as immersive as advertised. Once the subscription renews, you re basically stuck. They refuse to issue refund, hiding behin the fine print that most people will never read. I emailed back and forth with costumer service, and they refused to refund me. Between poor app experience and the terrible customer service experience, this was a complete waste of money. Stay away or set a calendar reminder to cancel it on time.

I got this app so that I could use its AI feature. $100+ later and I realize the AI doesn’t ACTUALLY respond to the things you say. The advertisements promise immersion. You will be speaking from the get go the founder says. You won’t be clicking buttons like DuoLingo. Lies! From the get go, I click buttons of basic vocabulary and watch videos mostly in English. I want my money back.

Not worth it
If you like brute forcing your way through lessons with zero direction then this is for you. This app will throw grammar and words never introduced to you before. No grammar concepts are explained. Vocabulary practice before lessons and conversations is a joke. Frequent glitches. Poor translations that aren’t native sounding (at least in Japanese). No way to display furigana to help pronounce new kanji. Don’t waste your time. It’s a nice-looking app but under the skin it’s very bare bones with what appears to be zero QA and vetting of its content. This is not an efficient way to learn a language. It’s been nothing but frustration with this app.
