No longer works
This app used to be my go-to and I was using it consistently for almost 3 years, however for the past couple of months it has stopped working, whenever I input the food I consumed it does not track it. I’ve tried logging in and out multiple times, resetting my phone, deleting and redownloading the app however all of these have failed and the app remains unresponsive. I’ve had to resort to other ways of tracking my calories that are not as simple, this is such a disappointment.
Very inaccurate information, not worth the time or money
I got this app hopeful that the AI feature would mean better database and accuracy. After two weeks of taking screenshots of the nutrition information from established chains, packaged meals, pretty much everything- to correct the wildly inflated information it auto-records, it just is not worth the effort. Then the app made it harder to record food details via screen shot! I figured out how to get to the old view, but was so tired of having to correct everything- taking even more time than the time I thought I would save. I should have known that an annual subscription was code for ‘you probably would have canceled after the first month, so we’ll trick you into thinking it’ll make your life easier and make the ‘annual’ subscription look like a deal!’

Awful app
This app is awful! Almost every day of the week, I report incorrect nutritional info for something I’ve scanned. The biggest waste of money! Don’t use it!
Calorie App Ruined by AI
This was a once extremely solid choice for a calorie counter app.
For the years I’ve been subscribed, they’ve slowly made it worse and worse.
Now they’re doing what every developer is doing in every space: ramming AI down our throats against our will. They’ve even changed the name to “Lifesum: AI Calorie Counter” which is a pathetic joke.
Even with the AI tracking option turned off, there’s a big glowing button suggesting you use your camera and let AI count the calories for you.
It should be easy. Scan UPCs of what you eat, enter information for ones that don’t exist, create meals with your own numbers… All calorie counter apps are glorified calculators. The reason anyone subscribes is because the convenience of having an app that does the math for you is worth the time-save of keeping a physical food journal.
When the developers slowly obfuscate their own UI, hide/remove convenient features, and now force ridiculous AI features into the app, that’s when I call it.
I’ll be discontinuing my years long auto-renewal and looking elsewhere for calorie tracking options. Hopefully there are other decent counters out there that don’t follow the same path Lifesum has.

What happened and WHY
4/2026 update: I canceled premium after 6 years and switched to Cronometer. Lifesum removed useful tools like meal sharing and added useless AI that crashes frequently. Really loved it but it’s not worth it anymore.
They saw a useful, intuitive app that people loved and were willing to pay for and decides to destroy it. The question is why? Why remove the ability to share meals with others from within the app? It crashes and freezes constantly. It’s infuriating. Sort it out fast or be ready to lose your customers to other tracking apps.

Completely unusable
App has been increasingly glitchy. I’m a premium member and can’t even get a hard boiled egg to upload into my log. I’ve logged out, I’ve updated the app, everything.
ANNOYINGGGG
This app has progressively gotten worse over several months. I used to get the pop up message “please sign out and log back in” every time I open the app. NOW I’m automatically being signed out to every single day I open the app I have to log in. How garbage is that. My other grievance is the convenience of logging food. If I had something for lunch, why is it not in the recents for me to add to dinner? Yet I can add yesterday’s dinner but not another serving of the lunch I just had. Why does the app assume I wouldn’t ever eat the same thing for dinner that I had for lunch? Either way I’m ditching this app to the curb, I’m done trying to stick it out
Don’t waste your money
Very glitchy and highly frustrating, after using it for 14 months on the premium version. Coaching refers to evening meal at noon, instead of recommending items for lunch. It is always 8 hours of my cycle and there is nothing that can fix it. Logged items disappear, only to reappear after relogging in. Lags, spinning wheel of death, sudden crashes and dropped data are the norm. Logged a 400 calorie meal, but the daily total showed the meal as only 36 calories. I went to the meal to check for an error and it reported 400 calories, back to the summary and it showed 36 calories. How can an App not know what time of day it is or do simple math?
Shame
Why does everything rely on AI? Why does it have to be a feature that can’t be turned off? I lost 50 lbs about 10 years ago using this app. Came back and almost resubscribed until I saw that trash.

A limited amount of anything? Except now I track entire meals through the day and it totals to 32 calories??? Sure! 🙄
This app is horrible and I still have the subscription for the rest of the year. Not worth the money, time, or effort. I’ll do the math and research myself before using this app.

Fails to load, loses data everyday.
App requires opening and restarting multiple times a day everyday to get data to load or else the app fails to function. Shame it used to work perfectly back in 2016.
Terrible quality
This app is badly designed and crashes or glitches regularly. The AI doesn’t “remember” any foods so you’ll be manually inputting the same information constantly. It’s not very customizable and with so many competing apps on the market, the standard should be higher. I unsubscribed almost immediately after realizing how frustrating it is to use.
Disappointed
I want to leave a review in hopes that the app will be fixed in the future. I started using Lifesum years ago and I have been a paying subscriber since 2020. I just recently cancelled my subscription because of the unusable quality of this app. I am logged out at random times and my meals are not tracked correctly if at all. It is so frustrating to spend time tracking a meal and getting the exact grams just for the app to erase it all. There was also a time I added a pop tart and it told me it was 5000 calories. I know pop tarts are high calorie, but dang. I’m really sad because i genuinely used to love this app. It used to be user friendly and easy. Now it’s AI tools make it unusable.
Update has ruined the app
Lifesum was an incredible app that helped me keep track of my food habits and weight loss journey but since the diary got an update of it being split by meals, it refuses to track any meals and while it will do the calculation for calories and macros it will save nothing to the diary. Ive lost the tracked macros for anything that I have tracked before. My diary has entries of food that are all zero calories now. I’ve tried contacting support but I’ve had no help. Screenshots and videos are asked for but that’s where it ends no solution or help.
Upgrades made LifeSum horrible
LifeSum no longer works well. When it was upgraded it became useless: you must log in every time; it doesn’t record meals correctly; the ease of repeating meals is gone, doesn’t finish recording. I connected with a text to complain and never received an answer. I am switching to another app after being a paying customer for several years.
Very buggy of late
The app seemed to hit some performance and reliability issues over the last couple of weeks. App Loading times have been extremely long lately… at least on my phone. This has not been happening with my other apps. In addition: 1. the tracked items are not consistently appearing on the dashboard, and 2. data that was previously displayed appears to have disappeared.
I hope the team resolves this issue, because I would have recommended this app without a second thought before, with perhaps a 4.5 out of 5 rating, but now the user experience has been frustrating.

Updates making app worse, not better!
-Same as yesterday feature only adds one item.
-Change serving to ounces doesn’t record correctly.

Unstable
This app doesn’t display correctly on my phone’s screen. The food tracking screen is cut off on the right side of the screen leaving out functionality options. Also its food search is clumsy and not intuitive, often causing search results to be irrelevant and inaccurate.
It doesn’t work anymore
I’ve used this app for years but the newest update has made it unusable; it won’t log anything and takes forever to load. Switching to MyFitnessPal instead.
Gone Downhill
This used to be my favorite calorie tracker app but ever since I started using it again, it’s done nothing but bombard me with the “sign up for premium” screen every time I open the app, randomly sign me out for no apparent reason, and make me do an item search again every time I back out of the item I clicked on. The user experience just doesn’t feel as seamless as it used to and that’s a real shame. No way would I upgrade to premium again.
Not logging meals
I’ve been using Lifesum for years and recently has not allowed me to log ANY meals. Very frustrating

Terrible app, inconsistent you will end up having to log in the same meals 2-4x until it gets it right and sometimes even more than that. It constantly logs you out and has been slower than usual. Use a different app

Every week something is wrong, and I have PREMIUM!
This week I get logged out of my account everyday and now all of my saved food items are gone. There is always a very inconvenient bug with every other major Lifesum update. Please do more QA testing, it’s really upsetting that this app is unreliable.
5 year user - abandon ship
I was a loyal user of this app for many years but it has become so glitchy it’s unusable. The app constantly crashes, the AI integration is poor, and worst of all it deletes weeks of my tracking every day. I have to crash the app and restart my phone multiple times a day and then it takes 10 minutes to reopen. It can’t even remember my goals or plan. I want a refund for this year’s terrible functionality. It would be faster to track my calories by hand. Super disappointed and frustrated.
The BIGGEST issue
Why does lifesum make it even more difficult to see your old progress. At first they made it hard to look back even two weeks ago, now they wiped all the data and i cant even manually scroll back to see it. Thats the one gripe I have with this app and ive been using it since 2019
Deleted all my progress
I have used this app for years (the free version) and had a 180+ day streak when it just decided to log me out and erase all my data from the past two years. Besides that, you have to wait a minute every single time you open the app so it can load advertisements for their $50/year subscription. What a waste that would be!!
AI ruined the app
I’ve been tracking meals all week and after you hit done the meals disappear. App DOES NOT WORK anymore.
Awful, overpriced
Absolutely awful if you want to save/ manage your macros. Constant bugs, popups, and the app consistently logs me out an deletes all my data. Don’t get the point of it if you’re trying to use it to meet a goal.
AI ruined this app
I have never left a review for anything but my frustration with this app is so strong. I have used Lifesum on and off for a few years and found it useful and easy to use until they added the AI elements. Now it is difficult to use and doesn’t track things accurately at all. The user experience is awful now. Jumping on the AI bandwagon ruined this app which is sad because it was really helpful to my weight loss journey before all this.
Would give no stars if I could
When using the free version I was able to search my foods and ensure the calculations for protein, calories, fat, etc were accurate. I wanted to change my macros so I paid for that version. It gives you an awful AI chatbot who constantly doesn’t output the food you state you are wanting to track. Even the “frequently used” ones aren’t the same measurements as the last time used. So much inconsistency and frustration retyping over and over to put in one food. When I messaged support, they said “this is a known issue we are working on”
Inaccurate Nutrition Information
The app is not logging accurate nutrition information. I put in a simple Starbucks drink and the nutrition information is completely off. Pretty frustrating considering this is the main purpose of the app.
AI is garbage
I’ve used Lifesum on and off for the past 6 years and wow the AI garbage they added really ruined the app. It’s 99% inaccurate. Please go back to the old Lifesum. Devs need to stop trying to implement AI into everything it doesn’t make the app more impressive
I used to love this app, now I hate it!
Like the title says, when I used this app a year ago for free- I loved it. I loved the quick add search, scanning barcodes, and it was more accurate with the calories. Now that I pay for it, they took my quick add feature away. I am forced to use the AI chat to log my food and I just logged in 2 cups of black coffee and they said it was 100 calories, but I don’t get to adjust that myself. I can’t wait for my subscription to be done so I can move on with my life.
Not this one
Not very user friendly. Clunky and frustrating. I hate when they offer deals before you even enter your information and you cant find away around it. I should have just stopped and deleted the app.
Awfully frustrating
The barcode scan search returns just one result that doesn't match the product or has the wrong nutrition values and if I type in the name of the same item, I get something entirely different, that also doesn't match the item I'm looking at on my counter. The feature to take a picture of my plate gives me completely wrong results. Attempting to add last night's dinner the next morning is a problem because the app keeps resetting to the current day. One top of those problems, manually correcting what's presented is nearly impossible. Awfully frustrating!
Terrible app
I was using this app for free and it was working great and then I started to pay for it and now it works terrible. The updates are bad. The interface is bad. The connectivity is bad.

Even when I clearly provide exact nutrition information, it ignores it and logs completely different values. I’ve had meals nearly double in calories for no reason. That’s not just inconvenient, it defeats the entire purpose of tracking.

Not reliable
App has numerous bugs to list. Very frustrating to use. Too many clicks to track food. Too many clicks to edit the mistakes it makes once items are tracked. Picture scanned meals adds ghost data and items. If the features worked and were reliable, maybe I would continue using. I’ve been patient waiting for bug fixes but the app seems to be getting worse!
