Betrayal

Premium Features not working
I am paying for the Liquid Text Unlimited. For the last week, I have been receiving messages that my license is corrupt and I need to “restore purchases.” When I do that, it still tells me there is a problem with my license. I have reached out to support, who told me that have escalated it but “please be patient.” I get this message on both of my silicon Macs, plus my M4 iPad. I cannot sync between devices nor use any of the advanced features.
Please beware false free trial
I knew within a day of using this app that it wasn’t for me, and when I tried to cancel my membership, I saw that I had already been charged despite being within the 7 day trial window

DANGER - CONTAINS AI - DO NOT USE!!!
This produce features AI, which destroys the environment and rips off artists. AI is a SCAM to STEAL YOUR DATA and sell it to third parties. DO NOT USE THIS APP if you care about your data!
(If the authors of this app can promise that all AI features have been removed, I will amend this review.)

Can't delete this app from my ipad
Why?
Too darn expensive
I was really excited when I first saw and downloaded the app because I’ve never seen this kind of thing and thought it was a fantastic idea but to access literally any of the useful features advertised you have to pay. The app might as well be listed for $70 because that’s how much it is for the most basic features 🙄
insane pricing
nah man seventy dollars at MINIMUM, and you only give me a license for one device at that? this is crazy. this app offers nothing that marginnote doesnt also. on top of that pretty much every review is saying this app is full of bugs so what are you doing with all this subscription money
Hate this app! Not ND friendly and regret subscribing. 😩
As a graduate student I’ve been on the hunt for the best app to work with the PDFs I often use for class. This app is super buggy, it always crashes, and is often not very intuitive for Neurodivergent folks. Aside from the app crashing (still doing it post update), there are other little quirks that are irritating and are counterintuitive to the utility of the app. I wish I could get my money back.
Buggy!
First, I will say that the interactive experience of this PDF reader is overall great. It is quite intuitive and nicely laid out. I was ready to shell out $80 to buy the one-time purchase but upon using the free version for a bit longer on a somewhat complicated PDF, I have discovered bugs, bugs, bugs, and more repeatable bugs. This leads me to why I have given this app 1-star.
I’m reading a scanned and OCR’d monograph of about 1200 pages and while things go smoothly some times, there are times when I am stuck unable to make any more annotations and comments and have to force quit the app in order to restore all functions. This is intrusive and breaks my concentration when reading a complicated work.
The other reason I’m giving this 1-star is because of what is offered at the one-time purchase level. I am not a user who likes the subscription model, largely because it feels like a continual siphoning off of my own finances without limits - yes, it’s easy to forget that one is on a subscription model and one’s expenses just incrementally increase over time without much realization. I much prefer paying a higher one-time purchase cost and not have recurring leaking of finances.
While I appreciate that this developer is offering both subscription (SaaS) and one-time purchase, the one-time purchase does not offer some very basic functions that are offered at the subscription level. For example, bookmarking is NOT included in the one-time purchase. Wow! What sort of PDF reader does not include this function when purchased? Bookmarking is an extremely basic function that has long been part of PDF readers! This is at least according to their published feature list - hopefully that is updated.
The other thing too is that the one-time purchase went suddenly from $50 to $80. I know this because in the midst of considering if I wanted to purchase this app in the period of a few days, the cost jumped up enormously. For $80, the functions offered are really not great. I’m happy to pay $80 for inclusion of basic PDF readers functions. In fact, I was almost ready to consider paying the one-time purchase for the iPad and Mac platform (amounts to $160 since it’s $80 per platform). But the functions offered is incomplete at the foundational/basic level.
Several years ago, I purchased MarginNote and had considered using both MarginNote and LiquidText. For now, I’m sticking with MarginNote. I’m still going to trial the basic version of LiquidText and keep my eye out on what updates bring though.
Oh, I don’t want to forget to mention that the Mac version is even buggier! Remember how I said in reading this complicated PDF monograph that the iPad version at some point lost ability to annotate until I force quit the app?
The Mac version is worse when interacting with the same PDF. It doesn’t just lose function. It frequently crashes which is worse!

Excellent idea, not finished/usable
**do not buy**
Liquid text has a dozen excellent ideas for changing workflow. However, it consistently fails at very basic functions.
1. importing barely works: I’ve been trying for two hours to import my pdfs from zotero. It crashes or freezes and I’ve only gotten ~150 documents transferred.
2. UX is very poor: The UX is in an alpha stage, with very poor feedback to inputs and poor flows. I’ve done significant programming, and this strikes me as a pre-beta level of UX design.
3. Weak file structure import and navigation: Importing documents destroys any folder structure, meaning you will have to re-create folder organization (and the interface is extremely difficult to use with 100+ documents). There is also no meta-data for your projects to sort them.
Overall, once you get INTO the documents, things are much smoother… but given how much of this app is about file management, there are too many ‘basic’ failure points to be useful for most people.

Has potential, Does not Function
I got this product because, as a PhD student, this application has amazing potential. The notetaking style works extremely well with the way my brain work while reading documents - being able to group notes together into conceptual links is amazing. However, the application glitches so constantly in a variety of different ways, rendering the product basically unusable. Support does little to remedy anything (even after sending logs). Unfortunately, I'll have to find a new product.
Refused to Refund Unintentional Yearly Renewal
I had never intended to renew my subscription for an additional year (after having stopped using LiquidText), and had thought that I had canceled it, however I was charged for a full year subscription. I immediately canceled and requested a refund from Apple, but they repeatedly denied my requests. I think it is absurd and predatory to charge customers for a full year of the service when I was not notified that it would be renewing and canceled it immediately upon finding out that it renewed. I reached out to LiquidText for support, and was told that they agree that I should be refunded, but there was nothing they could do if Apple says no. When I questioned why this is their policy, and why it was not possible for them to refund me, they ignored my emails. Needless to say I am extremely disappointed and will not be purchasing or recommending their products further.
Greed
Greed, they want money for an app that could be free and help people that don’t want to spend money
Subscription has made this app less useful
LiquidText was an amazing app 4 years ago. I was thrilled when a MacOS version was launched. However, that thrill did not last long as I found out that I would have to pay a hefty subscription fee to have the IOS and MacOS synch. This is nothing but absolute greed. I canceled my subscription to MacOS and I am looking for alternatives to LiquidText. MarginNotes 4 is complicated, but at least you will not have to pay $$ for an unlimited time just to synch across platforms.
Not support Persian
It doesn’t support the Persian language and that’s so bad
Mislead by subscription
They charge you annually so If you miss the trial cancellation (7 days) you get charged for the entire year instead of monthly like normal.
No meaningful iCloud sync
I stopped using it because it lacks meaningful icloud sync between different devices. I know they have their own cloud subscription but they should not stop without this feature. I bought all the app - ios, Mac; assuming one day they will have it -- but finally had to stop using it.
Best feature locked behind a paywall!
Well your not getting my money. Why is the best feature locked behind a pay wall of subscription. Greedy if you ask me. I already paid 50 USD why can’t I simply sync my file between my devices.
extremely buggy
i wish i did not spend money in this piece of trash. Half baked app that i should never trust my documents with.
Changes file names without user permission
I’ve used LiquidText for many years and have considered it by far the best pdf markup tool, despite episodic bugs and glitches. However, a recent update has essentially broken this app. It now renames pdf files with whatever data happens to be in the pdf’s metadata. This means that in any workflow where file names are important, or where the user has exerted considerable time and effort in assigning file names for organizational purposes, this app now breaks the file names.
The iPad version is now unuseable for me. My only workaround when I want to use LiquidText is the Windows version. Otherwise for people needing to use an iPad, there are other good options in the App Store, but none allow one to easily see two parts of the document as does LiquidText, which has long been its most important feature for me.

Severely Underdeveloped App
This app could be amazing. Unfortunately, the developers are clearly not interested in making it so.
Very basic functions, like the order your documents are displayed in, have been ignored for several years. Highlighting on PDFs downloaded from online journals is buggy, as many journals put text on the side and bottom of the PDF. The way LiquidText works, it highlights that text as inline, meaning you often have to highlight half the page to get one sentence. It's also nearly impossible to organize your folders without either making duplicates or going through multiple extra steps.
Those are just a few simple things that could have been fixed years ago if the developers cared. Very little real innovation or upkeep has been done to this app. I would stay away from this app. Find something that the developers actually have vision for and spend the time and energy on making it better.

Bugs
No sence to use this app because all notes disappear time to time. They try to fix already for few years already
Severely disappointed.
I've been using LT for over a year, and have grown very frustrated with it. I paid purchase price for the iPad app, and then also added the subscription for synchronization with my laptop, but very often handwritten notes failed to synchronize, and so I finally canceled the subscription. Now come to discover that without the sub, much of the basic functionality of the desktop app is stripped away? I can't draw text boxes, or live link sections of the parent document to a place in my notes? That is EXTREMELY basic stuff. Your subscription service doesn't work well enough to be worth $120 a year, and now your app doesn't work without it? Back to GoodNotes for me, I guess.
Crashes
Everything I try from opening docs to exporting crashes the app
Arrogant Developers
Reached out just to advise them of a bug presenting in a newer version of the software. Rather than thanking me for the input and advising me they are working on the new software compatibility - they got arrogant and told me that’s the reason I shouldn’t test beta software.
Lol as if their application is so important my iPad becomes useless without them. Save yourself the headache and use margin note. These folks got an attitude about them I’ve never seen in customer support.

A false advertising
Gonna cut right to the chase you have to pay to get the full experience for this app and it’s not cheap. as a student, I was hoping to find an app that can annotate scripts for my animation classes, my script, writing classes and came around this app. However, for an app that is advertising itself to annotate documents, you have to pay to literally be able to write on the documents?? Pay the ink, pay to add other documents you have to pay for everything in this goddamn app. Which is so unfortunate that there is a pay wall to actually experience this app and its whole entirety. I’m sure they won’t care, because there were a grown adults that would be happy to pay 80 to 182 dollars to Use the app. So if you’re a student, this is not the app for you, I would recommend Notability. Or an app that actually cares.
Major flaw in an otherwise good appl
Great app with major flaw. This app is aimed at comprehensive pdf reviews. When we want to search a specific word in document, you have to long press it, tap again for extended menu, then copy, then paste in the search bar and then hit search.
Is this really feasible? No. When so many apps have direct search feature on long press menu, why can’t you guys add it? It’s going to save lot of time.

Update crashes-STAY AWAY
Terrible update and customer support. Use another service and ssave yourself some trouble.
Update only works on Mac Sonoma and above
No info that updating would no longer work on Big Sur. Thanks guys...
No tech support
I do biomedical research. I've been using LiquidText on my iPad and Macbook Air for more than 2 years. It's the best PDF reading/annotating app I've used (and I've used tons of them).
However, the App on my Macbook used to crash frequently and then stopped working altogether a couple weeks ago. Now it won't even boot up. There's no tech support other than a form-based message submission on the web page. I've submitted two messages, no response. I've deleted and re-installed the App twice. I'll happily revise my rating if I can get some help making it work again, but until then I can only give one star to an app that doesn't work.

Used to be great
I paid $20 or $30 for this app roughly 6 years ago, but over time it has become increasingly glitchy. Now, they want me to pay to upgrade to use the original features that cane with the app when I first bought it, including highlighting and markup. Why would I pay twice for a glitchy app?
Could be good
This product has some amazing features, and it’s really an ingenious way to work with different PDFs. However, it’s horribly expensive, won’t allow you to move the pages or add/delete pages in your PDF, won’t let me excerpt one document to another, won’t always import my .PDF files, and won’t sync my documents between my iPad Air and my iPad mini.
What used to be a helpful tool is now just another product nickel and diming me
I’ve used this product for years, however since taking a break a few years ago and recently coming back, I can now see that 90% of the useful features that made this app unique is now locked behind a paywall. And egregiously priced paywall that price is out its main audience STUDENTS! Whoever Green lit this subscription idea clearly does not understand the product, the audience, or the purpose of this app. While there are very, very few other apps like this happen, there will be some other developer that won’t develop something just as good if not better and not have such a grossly priced product And LiquidText will be forced to either adapt and change their pricing or fall further into obscurity.
It is just too difficult to use.
I recognized it for Program is powerful as this one there might be a bit of a learning curve. However, it is incredibly difficult to do almost anything with this application.
I really wanted to like this program and I think that it has wonderful capabilities, but the UI is terrible. It’s difficult to determine how to do something as simple as pasting into a text block which should be easy. I wanted to paste the results of ChatGPT next to what I copied from the document
The devil shows drawing a line around some text and dragging it out into the workspace, but it doesn’t do that in the actual program
It is one of the most frustrating programs I have used in my past 20 years in IT and that saying something.

5 star to 2 star (DELETES MY NOTES)
I originally had my rating to a 5, but now it’s a 2 because I find myself not using it as much because of a major flaw of it deleting my notes. I took very important (with my apple pencil) and then out of nowhere the app just deleted all my notes!! I needed those for an upcoming exam. But this has been happening every single time. I have to write notes and then exit for it to save, and I even make duplicates to make sure I don’t lose notes. Honestly, this is pretty ridiculous to keep doing over and over. I shouldn’t have to exit projects to save it all the time. I’ve been with this app since 2022, and I’m now looking for other apps to replace this. If this company wants to keep my business, fix this problem ASAP. It was very useful when I started. Also, the AI on this is not the best. I paid to have tons AI usage, but it can never find what I’m looking for in my papers, I always have to look through document myself to find what I’m looking for. I have about 20,000 attempts to use, but it’s useless because it can’t find information.
Feels like a beta software with no updates for improvement
LiquidText is amazing in delivering most of the features that it promises but the buggy nature of the software and extremely slow updates holds it back tremendously. LiquidText asks for a massive premium compared to other note-taking apps but has still not implemented basic features that notability or Goodnotes have like Apple Pencil hover or squeeze. There is also still frequent crashes and freezes especially when working with any project 200+ MB’s in size. I can’t find any other app that can meet the current capabilities of LiquidText but for the massive price that they are asking (Subscription, one time is reasonable in my opinion), I wish it was more stable and had more basic feature updates (such as better handwriting support, hover, squeeze).
Still buggy
I’ve used LiquidText on and off for a number years. Came back to it after getting a larger iPad and a project that would benefit from LiquidText capabilities, but already have had multiple crashes and 2 freezes in the first couple hours of using again. Definitely want it to work, but remembering why I moved on the last round.
Not paying to bookmark
I feel like asking for $80 for a simple feature like bookmarking is a bit much. I’ll keep looking for a free PDF viewer with basic functionality. This is just an advertisement for a subscription service.
Great except for great person personal annoyance
I still can't toggle to the eraser, which breaks my flow every time. Pls guys
Unreliable
If this app could reliably do everything it claims to do it would easily be a 5-star product. Unfortunately, I frequently lose notes and annotations added to documents as I swap between devices--sometimes disappearing right before my eyes as I write! Add to this I am now experience unreliable syncing of documents and folders through LT's pricey subscription service. Customer service was quick to reach out when I first reported this problem, but once it became clear there wasn't a quick fix to the issue they became unresponsive. My advice: if you do opt to take the plunge with this app, don't get too attached.
Great app with huge burden to your devices
To be honest, I've greatly enjoyed using this app for several years. However, I have one serious complaint that has never been properly addressed. Or, maybe it’s not fixable at all. The problem is that the app often heats up my devices significantly, regardless of which device I’m using.
It doesn’t happen all the time, though. Occasionally, about once every four or five times I use it, the device works well without any heating issues. But more often than not, it causes the device to heat up and drains the battery very quickly, within just a few hours.
What I really can’t understand is that I’m using the app mainly on my iPad Pro. I previously used it on an iPad Pro 5th gen with an M1 chip, and now I’ve recently upgraded to an iPad Pro 7th gen with an M4 chip. Despite these devices being highly praised for their incredible capacity, I don’t understand why they struggle to run a note-taking app that primarily handles PDF files.
I’m not planning to switch to other applications until some viable alternatives appear because I truly like the concept of this app. However, it’s very frustrating to deal with the continuous heating issues, frequent bugs, and stability problems.
