Americans Cannot Sign Up
This app will not let me register without a local phone number. A tourist is more likely to want to rent a bike than a local. Seems like a big oversight.
Doesn’t let you create account
Never sent SMS despite using two phone numbers
App doesn’t work
App doesn’t work
Doesn’t work with U.S. number
I tried to sign up with my US number. Entered +1 beforehand, duh. I can receive verification texts from other services but never get one from this app. Tried five times. Emailed support Twice over a week. Never heard back.
No US support
Doesn’t support United States users
Didn’t work
Couldn’t even get registered. Soooo stupid.
Registration doesn’t work
No response from help phone number or email address
Sign up process is ridiculous
Pin numbers that never show up, no way to reset anything - unusable because there is no way to verify identity other than phone number and the PIN number never shows up. Boo.
Horrible
Used my American phone number it keep saying it sent the code I’m not receiving it though
Can’t receive access code with US number
In order to log in, they make you do 2-factor (at least when I try, in Germany). However, the code doesn’t go through to US numbers. Via email they said they know about this issue (why don’t they fix it) and to call, but it is a German number so if you don’t have international calling tough luck.
Zero help getting registered
I have been trying for a month to get the app set up so I can rent a bike. It will not give me a confirmation text, which is the first and only way to get set up. I have contacted support three separate times and have received no response. It doesn’t do much good to have a bike share program if it can’t be used.
Can’t even register
Requires a text confirmation code and they can’t even get me signed in- bad interface!
Doesn’t work for American phone numbers no pin is sent
Smh
Vorsicht ABZOCKE!
Rude customer service
This was one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had. I came to Germany from the United States and tried to use Nextbike, only to find out the app does not send verification codes to U.S. phone numbers. I had to call support just to get started. The first agent gave me a code that worked in the browser so I could pay the €1 verification fee, but that same code did not work in the app.
I called back a second time to explain this. Before I could even finish my sentence, the agent cut me off with “ja, my colleague just gave you a verification code.” When I tried to continue, he actually said “are you going to let me finish?” Imagine that. I am the paying customer trying to rent a bike, and I had to remind him, “I am the one trying to rent from you, how about you listen to me.” That level of rudeness is unacceptable anywhere, let alone from a company claiming to provide international service.
In the United States if any support rep spoke to me that way, I would hang up and immediately use a competitor. That is how capitalism works. Companies that treat people like this do not keep customers. Unfortunately here Nextbike has the monopoly, and what I got was arrogance, dismissal, and wasted time instead of simple help.
The problem was finally fixed when the agent gave me the correct code for the app, which is exactly what I had asked for at the start. All of this frustration could have been avoided if someone had just listened instead of cutting me off and talking over me.
Nextbike should be embarrassed by how its customer service treats people. If this is how international visitors are handled, it reflects terribly on the company as a whole.

Do not accept a saudi number ?????
I have saudi number and cannot rent bike because of it
Just not too cool

Can't use
In order to rent a bike, I need an app. Sure. In order to use that app I need a phone number (I'm traveling, but yes, I have that too). However, I type in the phone number and never get a message with the necessary code. I tried to register an account on the website instead, and now it says that my phone number is already registered.
So I still can't login on the app to get a bike. I tried someone else's phone number as well (to see if it needed a local number) and also did not work. So something is wrong with the function of sending the code. I have now spent more time trying to figure this out than it would have taken to walk to my destination.

The app doesn’t send pins
I tried multiple working numbers, and the app doesn’t send any pins. Maybe it’s just US numbers? It’s useless either way.
Cant log in
Doesnt send mobile pin 🤷♂️
App won’t open!
We tried to use nextbike to rent bikes in Vienna using our iphones. My husband and I downloaded the app but it won’t even open. It shows an error message that says, “That didn’t go as planned. Please try again.” Well, we did try over and over again to no avail because the app won’t even open for either of us. Bummer!
Cannot sign up in kosovo
sms verification doesn’t come through
Cities - Select a Different App for this Please
Doesn’t work with American numbers?? Kinda crazy considering the number for American tourists in Europe. Plus this is a know problem if you Google it. Cities that adopt this platform are losing out on ride share opportunities. Customer service said they’d send a confirmation code. Never did. Avoid this garbage software if you can.
Can’t sign in
The Nextbike app is a nightmare to use. I couldn’t log in because the verification code never arrived on my US phone number, likely due to being in Europe. The account setup is overly complicated and frustrating. Completely unreliable for quick bike rentals. Avoid if you’re traveling with a foreign number.
Update 06/18: received response from developers. They said they are looking into issue and suggest contacting their customer support. Well, I did. The same day I wrote this review. No response.

dont use
charged me already two times from previous versions, now need to charge me third time, bad field validations, bad ux
Avoid
The front wheel stays locked. But money the charge without problems.
Not for foreigners
You would think an app like this would be for tourists since it is in tourist heavy cities. The app refuses to send PIN to foreign numbers. If you read reviews this has been the case for YEARS and you get a canned response saying they’re looking at fixing it, lol
Never receive the pin
Never receive the PIN number when setting up the account so can’t use it.
Previously white zone is now marked yellow
And surprisingly so is the entire city of Berlin. My ride ended with a surprising service fee after a day. I felt this was a shameless act and it doesn’t feel fair but it has become the new normal for businesses I guess. Well, can’t recommend.
Getting worse every day
In the past week I've used next bike a half dozen times. One bike had a broken lock that wouldn't close after using it needing me to contact support to remove the extra charges. Another time I received an email that the bike cannot be found requiring me to email them back (gladly I had pictures after parking it). A couple of times the bike on the map didn't have an actual bike in real life. And twice I got charged for dropping the bike in an unauthorized area when in fact I dropped it at the exact spot where on the nextbike app it showed a bike station as indicated by a bike logo.
Low quality app and low respect for user's time with a false assumption that we need to manage their network of bikes.
Wasted so much time.

CAUTION Watch out: Bre.Bike has many tiny pink zones with extra charge!
Next bike used to work great. However the change to a new partner in Bremen appears to require complete uninstall of the app. All bikes are in the state of unavailable. Call center indicated re-registration required. After several re-installs it worked again. Major CAUTION the pink zones with extra charge can ONLY be seen after clicking on a bile and BEFORE starting a rental. Once started it is entirely non-transparent where you can return the bike without extra charge. This is a big change from before and not very rider-friendly. Pretty much only major roads are included, everything else is yellow (which looks like a standard light brown on the app map…) - leading to 1€ extra charge.
Charging for 25 euro with no reason
Give me my money back, it is a scum! I paid you 2.5 already and you charge me with 25 after hours… scum!
Not a single electric bike, to few parking spaces
By far the worst bicycle system I have used, and I have tried them from Buenos Aires to Kyoto.
This review costs 8€
It keeps deducting my 8eur from the inactive account😂 it comes back after I contact customer support. seriously who’s idea was it? 😂
SUBSCRIPTION plans are impossible to find
Subscriptions are hidden behind a ton of menus, terribly designed app
Careful when using the app
I tried renting a bike and they charged me one euro to set up my account. When I tried renting a bike I kept getting an error “Bike is unavailable”. Seems like a scam
They should provide station.
They don’t have a bike station in Karlsruhe.
Almost every bike is scattering around. People left it wherever they want. Even in the middle of park or on the grass.
I would like to suggest to Take some inspiration from Indego Philadelphia
I had to try a lot and walk a lot to find a single bike.

Zero support, poor experience
They double charged me once, I emailed them 3 times over a couple months and never received a response. Finally I had to dispute the charge with my bank.
They also dont send any notice that my discount for bikes in Vienna needs to be updated so I accidentally paid double for my rental. Obviously from prior experience it’s not worth trying to contact support.

Not for US I guess
I downloaded the app, put my phone number in for the secret code, and no text. Tried it several times, including my wife’s phone number nothing.
Doesn’t send text pin
I could not register. The service failed to text me a PIN to my US text number. Very sad to have no access to bikes in Vienna.
Doesn’t allow USA travelers
We were very much looking forward to rejecting the car life from the USA and participate in the greener modes of transportation that many European countries offer. However to even register so we could rent bikes, the app *requires* you to register a phone number (and strictly from various European countries). In other words, you are not allowed to rent/register if you don’t have a European telephone country code. There is a sign at the bike stop that offers a customer service phone number, but this is a tough option for international travelers (such as us from the USA) because international calls are expensive while abroad and the phone call is not even guaranteed to connect (our calls could not be completed). This app, like most others, should implement registration options via email or allow other telephone number country codes.
Terrible app. Waste of time
This app simply does not work. There is a problem with American phone numbers, the app is technically worthless
Could never get past register
Won’t send pin to +1
Couldn’t register or log in without a pin
Couldn’t register or log in without a pin
Can’t use it. Can’t add voucher
Can’t use it. I have the credit card in hand and I am in the app - why can’t I just add the card number and get going?
It looks like I need the voucher. It won’t login on the website since I don’t have a password yet. Password not received! Total waste of vacation time.

This app is scam
I was charged an extra amount and now they don't want to refund me.
Scam !!
I rented 3 bikes in Gothenburg, Sweden, and I wish I didn’t. So me and 2 family members got on our bikes, and after 20 min we decided to stop, but I couldn’t stop the counter on 2 of them even if I locked the bike, and after about 5 mins wasted , I decided to call the service, as a tourist, my roaming data costs extra , and morover, the service charged me 200 krona for a 2 min support 😤😤, let’s not forget that you get charged 10 krona when you first want to rent but you never get it back. This app is scaming people, I do not recommend and I want my refund cuz you have no right to charge me for a technical problem in your bike 😡😡 One other thing, the minimum you pay per bike is 20 krona , so if you just wanted it for a couple of minutes, then it’s starting from 20 and that’s expensive for a non electric bike
Still waiting for my pin…
My family and I were staying in Łomza Poland for the week. We wanted to rent bikes to explore the city, but when we scanned the QR code and downloaded the app, we were unable to receive a pin for our american phone number. we found this very frustrating and we were bummed.
Never got a verification message
App looks nice- but it was essentially not functional for me. I downloaded it so that I could use WienMobile Rad. Unfortunately, I couldn’t sign in as I never got a verification code on my US (+1) number.
Too difficult to change cities
Many of the reviews on here seem to confuse the app, with the bike operating companies. This is about the actual app.
That said, I’m leaving a poor review, because I am a frequent traveler, and it is insanely difficult to change cities within the app. Despite the fact that the app services many many cities, it requires deleting the entire app and then reloading it to change cities, or even to change providers within a single city. This is a deal killing oversight.

Stuck - did not receive activation code
I cannot use the bike offerings in my home town at all. I have a U.S. cell phone number but not did not receive the activation code despite multiple tries and verifying I had the right number, which means I’m entirely stuck. You need to sign up to contact support.
SO Frustrating
The app seems sophisticated but it’s guaranteed to frustrate. It allows you to return bikes in penalty zones and only informs you after the fact. It allows you to reserve bikes that turn out to be unavailable. I deleted it after one day.
