I’ve checked for updates, uninstalled and reinstalled the app, uninstalled the app restarted my phone and reinstalled the app, and clicked everything there is to click in the app and it won’t go away. It also doesn’t show up in my Notification Center to turn off the bubble. Also, when I go to the location the entrance works from my phone but the exit never works, I have to exit my vehicle and manually enter the code every time.

bugged so bad i can’t use it
There’s some sort of bug that’s been there for weeks. I can’t get in to even put my password in to login. I have to use the website in order to update my payment. This is a serious issue because I could’ve lost my unit if they hadn’t contacted me elsewhere. Please fix this stupid bug.
Unnecessary Monthly Rental Increase📌

I am leaving this review to help other customers know what to expect before renting here.
Situation:
I rented a 10x10 unit at this location around January 2026, and I have been there less than six months. Already, my monthly rate has increased by about $30. The explanation given was essentially that the company can raise the price because the contract says they can.
Concern:
That response is not good enough. Just because something is written into a contract does not make it reasonable or professional in practice, especially when the increase happens so quickly. A customer should not be brought in at one price, only to face a noticeable increase a few months later with no meaningful explanation. I firmly believe this happens at all Public Storage locations ‼️
Observation:
Nothing has changed on my end to justify paying more. My unit did not increase in size. I am not receiving any added services or new benefits. There is no visible on-site person monitoring the property, no added convenience, no improvement in service, and nothing about my rental experience that explains why the cost suddenly went up. It feels like the lower rate is used to get customers in the door, and then once people are settled in and less likely to move out, the price goes up‼️
Purpose for sharing:
I am sharing this so others are not caught off guard. Some people set their budget based on the rate they were given when they signed up, and a sudden increase like this can create unnecessary stress. My advice is to ask very direct questions up front about how soon rates can increase, how often they increase, and by how much. Customers deserve honesty from the beginning, not surprises a few months in.
Conclusion:
I would strongly encourage anyone considering this location to carefully reconsider before choosing it and to compare other storage companies first. Ask competitors whether they raise rates, how soon they do it, how often they do it, and why. There should be a valid reason for a price increase, not simply “because we can.” I do not agree with that approach, and I am sharing this because I want to help someone else avoid the same surprise. If roles were reversed, I would have wanted someone to warn me ahead of time.

App Never Works Properly
It will not work on the scanner. I got logged out all the time. Constant error messages. So frustrating.

This app is confusing and offers no help when switching accounts! Someone logged in through my phone to look at there account. I ended up getting a storage unit myself. Paid for her unit on accident. HAVE NOT RECEIVED ANY HELP WHATSOEVER in dealing with this matter. Now I’m out $200

App has many problems
I needed to add a new form of payment and was unable to do so on the app. Direct deposit looked like it would work, but when selecting CCd there were no fields to fill out, couldn’t click on anything. Ended up just logging on via my phone browser to get it done.
Later on I was prompted by app to give feedback on my experience. This feedback section also did not work. No sections to click on, no place to type, no submit button.

The passcode to reset my password doesn’t work. so i’m effectively locked out of the app and have to talk to front desk to get let in. This app is great in theory until it doesn’t work and wastes your time.

Misleading pricing - $9 turns into $65
I’m extremely disappointed with my experience at Public Storage. The advertised price was $9, which looked like a great deal, but in reality, it’s completely misleading.
By the time all the mandatory fees, insurance, and additional services were added, the monthly cost jumped to $65. What’s even more frustrating is that some of these charges are not optional - you’re forced to pay for insurance and other add-ons whether you want them or not.
This feels like a bait-and-switch tactic. The advertised price does not reflect what you actually end up paying.
I would not recommend this place unless you’re prepared for the real cost to be several times higher than what’s shown upfront.

Unacceptable Service and Unauthorized Access
Very bad experience. The lock on my unit was changed without my permission, and I was unable to access my own storage. Maintenance was done inside without notifying me, which is completely unprofessional and unacceptable. I do not recommend this place.

Doesnt get past the login page, im stuck on infinite loading. And when it used to open it was still super laggy, the gates connection was so slow it was faster to get out of my car and punch in the number

Signed up, brought over some things everything worked fine. Second time over, after loading up my truck, was denied access to my storage area. Message said it wasn’t enabled yet. Bad system.
Autopay Turns Off and Notifications Don’t Clear
The app has some basic reliability issues that make it difficult to trust for something as important as storage billing. Autopay repeatedly turns itself off in the app without any clear reason. That creates unnecessary risk because users rely on autopay to avoid missed payments.
There is also a persistent red notification badge that does not disappear even after the message has been opened and read. I logged out, turned notifications off and back on, and even reinstalled the app.
The clear technical support channel inside the app to report or resolve these issues. When core account features malfunction and there is no way to contact someone to fix them, it significantly reduces confidence in the platform.

Log in issue
The app is not letting me log in because my username has the & sign. Every time I enter that symbol it clears the user name for me to have to retype it but it won’t let me add the symbol. This is crazy. I would like to use the app to access the gate by not having to enter the access code but I can’t even log into the app!

Rating this app one star because the company keeps emailing and texting me to use it. The answer is no, I will not provide you access to fine location permissions. They provide no way to unsubscribe from these emails and hide any evidence of a contact email to resolve the issue. So here I am, lowering the score of their app instead. Leave me the f alone. You're a storage company not a big data broker; I know what you can do with these permissions, and I won't have any of it.
Message/ Notification Flag Stuck
Recent update came with a message /notification to review the move-in process. But upon doing so, the flag is still there, blocking all future messages. No in-app way to submit bug report.

Usually I have no issues with the app but literally in the last 48 hours I haven’t been able to log in at all. I’ve changed my password so many times and yet it still says “The email/username and password combination entered is incorrect” to then maybe make a new account says there is already an account with that email address. Like, make it make sense!?

This app is trash, constantly needs to be updated, but the updates don’t fix anything. Using Bluetooth to open gates is hit or miss with device less than a meter away. I don’t know what the app devs are updating, but maybe they should focus on making an app that doesn’t need to be updated first, EVERY TIME I need to use it!

Bully’s! They know they have your valuable things and will hold them for ransom! Even after you pay them the price they asked. You will get in after you pay what they want and it will not stop!

Why does this app constantly force updates to use it. I mainly use it to gain access to the location and being forced to update before I can do anything is horrible. Sometimes the cellular coverage isn’t great and I can’t use my app to unlock and can’t even get the manual code.
I’m missing a check.
This company scammed me by charging me money without my knowledge using false pretenses. After admitting their mistake and promising a refund, I only received a partial refund, and the company even started deleting some of my account's login information. Perhaps they did this to prevent me from having evidence against them if I ever decide to sue them...

I had an extremely frustrating experience with Public Storage in McKinney, Texas, and I feel obligated to warn future customers.
Tonight, I attempted to rent a storage unit and could not even complete the process smoothly. I had trouble navigating their system twice, which forced me to call customer service. I was on the phone for 15 minutes, and then their system crashed in the middle of the call, disconnecting me before the reservation could be completed. I had to call again, wait again, and eventually finished the reservation with another representative.
According to Google Maps, the first location I went to closed at 9:00 p.m. I arrived at 8:30 p.m., only to find the place completely closed. I called corporate and was told the location actually closed at 6:00 p.m., and that the hours had not been updated online.
I then changed my reservation to another Public Storage location that was supposed to be open and advertised as 24/7 access, for which I paid extra, totaling $53. When I arrived, the facility was also closed - no open door, no keypad, no access at all, despite having a confirmed, paid reservation.
I called customer service again and waited another 15 minutes, only for the system to crash once more. I drove back home, called again on the way, and was told to return to the location even though they admitted they cannot open the door remotely.
When I got back and called again, I spoke with a representative named Mickey, who was polite and genuinely helpful. Unfortunately, he explained that nothing could be done, there was no supervisor available, and I would have to wait until tomorrow.
At 11:45 p.m., I was left with boxes still in my car, no access to the unit I paid for, and no immediate support. I had no choice but to go home, sleep, and prepare for work the next day - all after paying for a service I could not use.
This experience shows serious issues with system reliability, inaccurate business hours, lack of after-hours support, and misleading access claims. Please be very careful if you are considering this Public Storage location in McKinney, TX, especially if you need evening or 24/7 access.

Notification Badge
I can not get rid of the notification badge and I have zero notification. I can’t even disable it in the Apple settings because the app doesn’t show up!
Sucky worst company ever
Reason I gave a one star is due to the very stupid question how am I enjoying the storage yeah right I enjoy throwing money away yeah here’s 288.00 wee I enjoy that such stupid question deserves a stupid answer. If I had a choice I have a better use for the money like not being forced into homelessness. I wonder if anyone finds joy into giving up there money like that. The company are thieves. Add Payment Method does not show
The layout does not fit on my phone screen and so the “Add Payment Method” button was hidden. I downloaded the app on to my ipad for more screen area and that worked, but it the app only works in portrait mode, so that’s awkward with my attached keyboard. Do better!
Notification badge issue
There is a persistent notification badge that will not go away. It can’t be disabled because the app is bypassing Apple’s notification system and is not listed in your phone’s notification list for apps. Please fix! Deleted the app until it’s resolved.
Impossible to register no customer service
New account just throws and error. Never used but tried forgot password and no luck. Multiple times across multiple days. Phone call is a joke. No real person and leaving messages many many messages zero callbacks.

I’ve had problems with this app since I downloaded loaded it. Recently, I haven’t been able to open it because it just loads. Then I get to the gate and the app doesn’t let me open it. If I need to get access I have to go to the website 😒

This app completely sucks!! I downloaded it several times and every time I do I get the same results. It has three questions and when you click next on each of the boxes orange boxes they turn grey and nothing happens, it just sits there. It won’t work and I’ve even tried deleting the app and re-downloading it and still the same results. IT DOES NOT WORK!!! On my Apple I phone 12
You can’t make this stuff up
Went to the storage and couldn’t get my key in the lock. Looked like it had been tampered with. Finally able to get the lock off only to discover that 1/2 of my stuff had been stolen in the last week. Police came and report made. I was leaving only to discover that something was wrong with their gate system. It showed a date of 1/1/1970 and you could not enter a code. Thankfully the policeman was locked in with us so the fire department was called to open the gate.
I left several voicemails throughout this experience. Could NOT get to a live operator! Now I can’t access my account so I can file a claim!

Autopay is non-functional
I’ve noticed with past couple of updates that the autopay feature still appears available but I continuously get an error that says I am unable to enroll due to my account status, regardless of whether the bill has been current, due, or past due.
BEWARE OF THE ONE STAR RATING SCAM-
Public storage should not be in business with what I have witnessed-neither should Orange Door insurance which still holds true to their reputation of being scammers-because they are-Their customer service practice is deplorable, disrespectful, and down right evil, no matter what evidence is presented. The level of employee customer service amounts to the smell of marijuana when you’re walking into the office, followed by repeated talking points without one ounce of care for the customers issue at hand. It seems like the level of greed and convenient lying is obvious -after paying for insurance for one whole year then to first discover on the surface the damages from the debris falling from the ceiling that I could initially see-I was told they didn’t suffer any storm damage-which was obvious we lie because they repaired part of the ceiling with fresh drywall- I was informed that I would be responsible to move the content at my expense and that no storage units were available at the site-as time passed from the initial claim, and I was not able to communicate with anyone that was directly ‘handling’ my claim-after many many many voicemails and reaching out to the original number from intake,I stated my revised claim and damages to more than one agent that promised it would be noted only to receive a call about five months later that went straight to voicemail stating my claim doesn’t fit in with their 10 point plan-I suggest corporate managers try ‘undercover boss’ and fix this mess of company practices!!! They stole my money and destroyed my family heirlooms without a blink!!! The Attorney General should probably look into these unfair practices. Shame on you Public Storage and Orange Door -
