I used to subscribe to Everand and Scribd. Last week I was sent a 30 day free trial membership. After I signed up, I realized that most of the books were locked. After I unlocked one book and read it, I started looking for the next read. MOST OF THE BOOKS WERE LOCKED-EVEN OLDER BOOKS THAT HAD BEEN FREE BEFORE. I CANCELLED THE TRIAL MEMBERSHIP IMMEDIATELY. Everand/Scribd made it difficult to cancel. I couldn’t cancel through the app. Did some private equity company buy Scribd and Everand?

I have been charged $11.99 for a total of $203 over the past 1.5 years. I have cancelled, emailed, requested refunds multiple times. They continue to charge me.
Total ripoff business model
This app doesn’t allow you to cancel recurring subscription from the app, though I signed up on the app. Furthermore, it shows a screenshot of the website with the link to manage the subscription but it is not a link. Why? To dissuade you from actually unsubscribing.

I have tried five times over five months to cancel this subscription. Every time they say it’s done and the next month it come out of my PayPal account again. DO NOT DOWNLOAD IR USE THIS APP OR EVERLAND THEIR BOOK APP IT IS A BLACK HOLE OF DECIET.
Can’t login due to constant redirects
I can’t login on my iPad because of the multiple redirects on Safari. Unable to access the content I pay for on certain devices. I’m paying for this service and can’t utilize it on the tool it’d be perfect for. What am I missing?

I have downloaded this app, attempted the free trial, and it refuses to connect. The app will not allow me to get past the initial home screen, and tells me to go through support. I have gone through support and have jumped through all of their multiple hoops and on the iPhone 16 Pro Max it continues to tell me there is no connection, even though everything else and all other apps on the iPhone work, I have even gone as far as to uninstall and reinstall the app with the most current version available and double checked to ensure that I was running the most current version available, including resetting the iPhone and still nothing. This app is a complete waste of time and I do not recommend it.

Bought a car manual that didn’t include any of the stated information - wasn’t model and engine specific with accurate and relevant specs for vehicle as described. After canceling subscription and obtaining a refund through PayPal’s dispute process, the company had the gall to then attempt to charge my Apple Card multiple times.

Scribd was an amazing app when i joined; a wide selection, easy-to-use interface, and the promise of “unlimited” reading made it one of my go to platforms. Overtime, though, the experience has gone steadily downhill as they keep changing the terms and quietly limiting what paying subscriber’s can actually access.

This and Everand were ruining my life. I used to love browsing sheet music from my piano, playing for hours. Now I hardly play because these apps are so confusing and unusable. I’m moving on, I will find my love for music again elsewhere.

KEEPS CHARGING MY ACCOUNT
I have never written a review for an app before but felt the need to share my experience with this app. I only downloaded the app and really never got a chance to use it so I deleted it off of my phone. But for weeks now it attempts to charge my account. Luckily I gave it an account that I use only to pay bills when I transfer money on to the account so it hasn’t been successful in withdrawing the money. But every few days I get the notification of it attempting to charge my account. I can only imagine on of these days if I have only exact money for rent or my car payment and the charge for this app goes through then it will cause my account to overdraft and I will get charged extra fees from the bank. When they stopped offering books and forwarded you to Everand “free,” it was odd, but whatever. Now, Everard charges $16.99 per month, and you are limited in the number of books you can access.

Pleees help me. When I enter the PDF and go to the file page browser to resume the search, for example I write P0038 and it shows me the results but when I slide down several times the tab closes and closes the app

They charged me twice for 6 months and when I try to reach out the only answer I get is a link to the chat bot. The chat bot says “good news we can reimburse your last month payment”. How is that good news???

I got it for audiobooks they use to have a good selection. Now none of the audiobooks are included. Waste of money. Don’t buy.

Who turns a deaf ear to any mentioning of this, therefore, completely ignoring their customer’s most basic accessibility needs, no matter how many times any attempt is made to bring it to their attention? Sad to say it’s no one but the very purveyors of these two otherwise rather worthwhile good apps! What do you call that? Tech-nonsupport or how about customer no service for starters?
You won’t believe just how basic of a thing it actually is they failed so miserably to address (anyone Who would let this get by them? should be down right embarrassed!) All I’m talking about is making it so you can automatically scroll or page turn (read continuously) using voiceover. What’s voiceover? Nothing more than the stock built-in screen reader that comes included with all Apple devices. Even so, ubiquitous as it may be, getting their apps to do this thus far is apparently an unsurmountable task well beyond their capabilities.
Frankly, I don’t know of another reading app so limited (user unfriendly) the way they are. In others like Kindle, Apple Books, etc. this is a given. Just the way it works. So common and insignificant elsewhere. Such a major no-brainer. I’ve really never encountered such an asinine problem in all my years of experience with digital media whenever reading anything! Nothing could be more archaic these days. It’s absolutely ridiculous!! Appalling to the point of Ludacris absurdity to say the least. Just try simply navigating and reading anything in these apps with voiceover on. It’s hit and miss at best when attempting to turn a page, which can only be done manually. So tediously, one page at a time. That is if you manage to figure out A working hand gesture, which may or may not work at the time anyway.
Having to turn every single page yourself is alone an unnecessarily obnoxious stupid pain in the …. enough as it is. Having that itself not even be consistent, much less accurate or reliable in doing so, is a flat out reprehensible outrage!! Just imagined reading something and when a page ends, needing to use the device to go to the next. And then not knowing if it ended up there or if it skipped another, or if it even did anything at all. The unmitigated gull of this kind of negligence, is nothing but inexcusable! What kind of “developers,“ write an app that’s so lacking in what couldn’t be more assumingely essential? It’s hard to believe they’re that dense and unintelligent. So that leaves only one conclusion to make. That they couldn’t give less of a sh-t about who can equally use their products. So non-inclusive! How is this not discrimination? Possibly even a violation of the ADA. Definitely should be reported if so. Haven’t done that quite yet. Hope it doesn’t have to go there.
Mind you, this is after already leaving an ignored review. and contacting them numerous times, to which I only got at the most a form letter like response saying “I’ll forward your message to Support.“
Currently at this point, as a now longtime subscriber, it’s downright insulting. At the very least, feeling abandoned and left out in the cold. Once again, fixing this is really no big deal. Certainly not requiring any kind of genius to achieve it at all.
I can’t believe I have to write this today in 2025! What With all that is and ever so much more possible, accelerating every day in how fast things advance technologically, in a time of AI, AR, VR, Meta, and such, we’ll see what happens first to make this all no longer matter. The day I actually get a bionic eye, enabling me to no longer need a screen reader, or these guys finally get it together, catching up to the present and once and for all bringing their apps up to speed? One way or another, that is the day that I will finally be able to use scribed and Everand like I and everyone should, which is simply reading text with them like I can otherwise! That is if I’m ever to live so long. Perhaps, if no sooner, this will come into being by the time we get to the point of inhabiting Mars.
One last question. Will I be able to give this review a final positive update? If so, you can bet that starting with giving them five stars, these guys will have my fullest praise and support.

They recently removed the sheet music section and other parts that made their content unique. Now they’re just a really bad version of kindle.

This company is a joke, non of the resource is even worth the subscription, I ended my subscription but still got charged every month, even after their customer service said that they going to cancel all auto payment under my account but they sill charging me, and guess what the phone number listed on their company website is non-working number. Don't do the mistake I did, not worth it. They have not even resolving my issues until now.

This is not the first time I’ve experienced an issue with unauthorized charges on my account. Previously, I had to dispute a charge with my bank, which led to my card being re-issued.
I’m finding it difficult to understand why I’m still being charged for a subscription I canceled months ago. This cancellation was confirmed by one of your customer service representatives. If needed, I can provide email correspondence to verify this.
At this point, I’m concerned that my account will be charged again at the end of the month for a subscription I have not used. While I understand that investigations may be necessary, the inconvenience this has caused me over a $24 charge is frustrating, especially considering this is not the first time I’ve raised this issue with your company.
I’ve already responded to your customer service team, who requested additional information such as screenshots of the charge and partial card details. However, I’d like to stress the urgency of resolving this issue promptly to avoid having to file another dispute with my bank.
I do not wish to leave a negative review, but I will be forced to do so if the issue remains unresolved. I am willing to update my feedback once I see that the matter is properly handled and my account is fully refunded, with assurance that I won’t be charged again.
I trust you will address this as soon as possible and provide a timely resolution.

I’ve been such an advocate for Scribd for years, however it’s now just too much to root for. You have to pay even more for an “expanded” premium subscription? It’s just not worth it. You’ve lost a longtime customer.
