Stick With Duolingo
First starting out, I enjoyed the app. I quickly realized that you couldn’t do anything else with the app unless you paid more the subscription. Duolingo does offer a paid plan, but you’re not forced to purchase in order to use the app like you have to with Speak. Save your money.

No Arabic language!!!
Very disappointing, i was excited to use this app , but there is no Arabic language support, Arabic is my native language and its difficult to learn through an app that doesn’t offer instructions or explanations in Arabic. Please add Arabic support
AI change
It was much better before they switch everything to AI, I would not have paid for a year subscription if I knew they were going to solely use AI . The native speakers sounded so much better but now it’s too robot for authentic sounding words and it really only understands if you say the things back with the robotic tone. Super disappointing.
only 1 free lesson
you only get 1 lesson then you gotta pay i guess.
just a cash grab
you literally only get ONE lesson for free and have to pay to pretty much use the whole app. I expected an option where u can pay to have no adds, unlimited content etc, but the only way we can learn a different language is to pay for it entirely?? lame asf. Id rate 0 stars if I could

Even if you pronounce words wrong it still says you got it right
That is bad because for new learners they might think how they’re saying it is correct even though it’s completely wrong
Audio doesn’t work
This was a good program until the audio stopped working. Save your money for a program that works and that is supported.
add more common languages.
You need to add russian language. Russian is much more widespread than polish. And russian speakers aren’t just people from russia; they’re from multiple of Slavic, Baltic and European countries. It’s literally the 8th most popular language in the world. Russian speakers also want to learn English.
Need add Cuban Spanish language

Speech Recognition
Doesn’t work! I have to manually press the skip button on every prompt. It’s not recognizing when I get a word correct
This is the reason why I am forced to cancel my subscription.
The reason is simple: there’s no option to use the app entirely in English. The list of native languages is also too limited. For example, Russian isn’t available, while Polish is. It’s frustrating when I have to complete an exercise and the instructions themselves are written in Polish. If the instructions were in English, I would understand them without any problem.
Bad text to speech
It’s really hard to use for long periods because the text to speech / speech recognition is so bad, particularly for Asian languages. I find myself sitting there repeating myself incessantly because the speech isn’t detecting.
No structure
It’s very random. No tools or techniques other than speaking it to make sure memorization induces. There is no intro or peak into lessons.
So expensive
I love the app, I just wish it was cheaper so it was more widely available

Thought this was great at first, but a deeper dive has shown that the app processes your responses super slowly and you end up having to say a word multiple (7x-10x) to get it to register. You end up having to say something in a very heavy American accent to be recognized as correct. Please take the money I threw away on this app to improve the speech recognition processor so that your customers can actually learn from this app. The lagging is super frustrating and makes me want to stop learning.
things to change
i think there should be a way to save words you don’t understand maybe in a dictionary format. for the mini quizzes i know some spanish and if i say a sentence correct but in a slightly different way it doesn’t acknowledge that my answer is also correct.
it would be awesome if you could choose what dialect to speak in. for example I would like to learn dominican spanish and slang specifically.
the app is very clearly ai and it would definitely entice me to keep going if the front end design was better so it felt less like an app generated by claude or something.
still i am learning well but i do think there are a lot upgrades that could be done…

The bad things about this app
The app was very great, but what I didn’t like is that I had to sign up to do a full session and every day I would get a notification and it always said just to do the second session and it was always just the preview
Used to be a 5
I’ve been using this app daily for a little over three months. Part of what made this effective was the mix of AI assistance and real life tutors. The real life tutors have been completely phased out in favor of the blue blob cartoon which killed the differentiator Speak had vs every other AI app on the market. Still ok…but not top tier anymore. Please bring back Dalma and Andres (for Spanish)! They are the reason I was excited to continue learning daily.
