If your goal is to teach language, then you might as well have them learn them through context clues if you banned someone because what they said was off topic then you’re not good at teaching language in the first place You should team up with Apple and OpenAI so they can make AI generated images. It’s OK if you don’t wanna wet people post videos but don’t kick them off just because what they said wasn’t relevant to learning grammar that’s not how you’re going languages anyway when you’re when you’re a baby

Хочу поменять язык, никак не получается, чтоб убрать существующий, пишет «нужно выбрать хотя бы один язык», а когда пытаешься добавить хотя бы один язык пишет «эта возможность доступна только пользователям Про» поставьте сменить язык, чтоли.
Doesn't Work
It's non-functional. Audio doesn't work in parties, and it usually collqpses even trying to open one.

Deceptive advertising
Only downloaded because it was advertised as having the option to select multiple target languages for free. After a lengthy sign up process, I learn that it is not free, it wants to charge $70 for that feature.

Overly Monetized
Used to be a cool app, but like most things now, the corporate reptiles got their grubby little hands on it. You have to PAY just to switch your language preferences if you decide youre learning s new language which should be a free and basic feature. plus nobody seems really serious about learning languages here. dont waste your time here

A Disappointing App for Language Learning - Just Fake Friendships
This app is extremely disappointing and almost useless for language learning. The platform is poorly designed, the features don’t support real learning, and it feels more like a place for fake friendships than an educational tool. It completely fails to deliver any real value. I wouldn’t recommend this app to anyone who is serious about learning a language.

Tandem is not what it used to be
Now it pushes a lot of ads and restricts what you can do and often freezes up your device with all it’s pushing notifications.

v7.9 crashes constantly, don't upgrade!
I mistakenly upgraded to the most recent version (as of early March 2026), v7.9, and doing anything in Chats causes the app to crash. It crashes constantly. The app is completely unusable for Chat. AVOID!
They ruined it
I can't believe how badly this app frustrates me now. I used to use it all the time; I've made so many friends who've genuinely changed my life from all across the world across so many different language barriers. I can't thank this app enough for that; but now almost every useful feature is behind a pay wall and it's absolutely ridiculous. It's also gotten really buggy and advertises a lot of sketchy crypto stuff.
Edit: I started paying and it made a lot more fun to use, for a while. Now for some reason there's a daily limit on how many conversations you can initiate? This is outrageous.
Edit 2: It has gotten way glitchier and laggier. I often get weird error messages whenever I try to record myself.

Incredibly buggy and discrimination is rampant
The app is incredibly buggy and has been this way for years. They also discriminate against their own paying users by randomly banning users with no explanation. It’s really pathetic.
Unusable with popups
I used to really enjoy this app for many years. However, it is now almost unusable as nearly all the features require TandemPro, and even for features that don’t require it, there are CONSTANT popups that make it difficult to do even the most basic tasks.

Influencer scam
I came on this app because I saw an influencer mentioned it and thought maybe it’s a real recommendation. It is terrible. Put fake numbers on the map in my area to bait me into subscription. I did it and there was no one. There’s supposedly a Lunar Nee Year event but in reality there’s nothing. So far none of the people who are online have replied to me. Really disappointing because it makes you do these questions at the beginning of making your account to make it seem like it will be high quality.
Limitations
The limitation on chatting with others is really frustrating. You can’t chat with more than ten people per day.

The worst support team and worst signing up process
Too many messages from men!
I keep trying this app and want to like it, conversations are a great way to improve learning a language, but the moment I join I get barraged with messages exclusively from men with no way to adjust those settings that I can find. For any chat app I should have an option to limit who can and can’t message me (such as only Followers I Follow back) but aside from manually blocking a bunch of guys every day I dont know what else I could do. I end up deleting the app within 20 minutes each time

This is absolutely a useless app, it takes forever to even connect you with someone even after answering all the required questions, waited over a month and no feedback, an option to delete my information later popped up after nothing. Don’t waste your time downloading it pure BS

Bro… These language learning apps all suck, at this point I’m starting to wonder am I talking to bots?! Cause everybody is ghosting me when I wanna learn Japanese and other languages, This has happened countless times, therefore I’m just not using these services anymore, ATP I should just move to the country and have a better time there practicing than I do on these sucky apps
Terrible app, do not even download and waste your time with it
I downloaded and registered to an app. Then it said I have to wait in line and this might take up to “7 days”. It’s been two weeks and I didn’t receive any update message about my account conformation. Wish I could have a choice to not even give 1 star.

Application not get processed in 1 year
I have logged in and it was saying to wait for 7 days but it’s been a years I am still waiting for the application to get approved in tandem. I don’t know what’s the issue.

I thought it was a wonderful app in the time was very helpful to learn languages and interact with native speakers , but this app forces you to buy a subscription I did not accept and kept using it all of a sudden my account got deleted , horrible app they should inform you that your account will only remain if you purchase their subscription. Worst experience especially if your trying to learn a language.

Is this an IOS only problem?
I’m not sure why it takes so long for the app to load messages. Recently it will load the home message page and will show my messages from days ago when I had just sent a message an hour ago, and then after waiting a minute to two it will finally load…
On top of that sometimes when you want to reply to a message, the options to add of emoji of respond is blank in which you will have to wait 1 minute for it to load…

Please hear me out: make us completely fill out our bio, I mean 1 paragraph minimum on why we are on the app, something that is not “…” and “looking for blonde girl blue eyes and big [umm u get it]” or, I personally love this one, “i don’t know”. A fliter for hobbies or careers and even for different types of spanish/english spoken (Spanish should not be limited to Spanish flag or US flag for English) and cute stuff like that to find more meaningful connections would be awesome. Also, a photo verification is so needed. People become so confident behind an AI pic and a screen and think they can say anything. Also, the voice rooms need some form of monitoring to avoid the “come to my country for sexual relations, I’ll paypal you money for your flight” or “send me some nudes” convos (yes, this happened to me and 3 others I met). I found a bestie here and we both dropped the app cause it’s just not it.

Great app for 30+ men trying to perv. Terrible app for women who are trying to learn a language. If I wasn’t being added by a creepy 30 year old man, it was some creepy 20 year old dude.

Good concept, poor execution
I really wanted to like this app, but it is laid out like a dating app, with the premium subscription too. There are very few serious learners on here, and 90% of people will likely never respond, another 10% will just ghost you after a few days or weeks of talking if you're lucky. Very frustrating and expensive experience

Ever since the big interface upgrade, this app has been very buggy. Not able to send any other messages after sending a voice message or it repeatedly send out the same voice message. the app is has became very laggy.
New update
The app itself is pretty fun and I wish I had a little bit more options to post things to fuel conversations. But man after this new update, the app is on wobbly legs. Everything is going bonkers.🤣
