Free App is pointless
Literally everything is behind a paywall/subscription. With everything so locked down I don’t even know what I would get out of premium.
Harasses you constantly
Using the free version is obnoxious, the app constantly asks you to upgrade to premium. Every single time you wake your phone it shows the same pop up over half of your screen. I understand that you have a premium version, if I want it I’ll upgrade on my own. Just for this reason I’ll never upgrade.
Consistently buggy
Consistently fails to pull Apple Watch workouts. Using it for a year. Still buggy. Often fails to pull TSS even though Apple Watch clearly records it. Doesn’t matter if all apps are open simultaneously, still fails to pull workouts into app 20% or the time. Also does not matter what version on both app and/or Apple Watch, consistently fails for an entire year after numerous iterations.
Really Hard to Use
The user experience is pretty terrible without premium. The entire home page at the moment is an ad for premium. So all I see whenever I open the app is ‘Commit to your goals by unlocking premium’. The calendar is hard to use and dates often aren’t able to be selected when I tap on them, I instead have to tap a nearby date and scroll until I find the desired one. You can’t create notes or add info about a specific date in advance without premium, which even the most basic calendars support for free. The oddest part about the premium functionality is that it’s making me pay to see my own data… feels wrong to pay for it when I can open garmin connect or any other fitness tracking app and see it for free.
No customer service
Training peaks premium member here. Been trying to get help in the app for weeks. Workouts won’t show up on my iPhone and vice-versa. Workouts won’t sink together. No replies. Cancelling premium membership.
Unoptimized, slow, nagware
This app will interrupt you to sign up for a premium account with almost every single interaction you have with it. When you first open it, when you try to add a workout to a calendar, when you open one of the unmarked premium tabs by accident… you have to wait for their animation to finish and then you have the option to click not now or close the premium window.
The app is painfully slow and laggy for 2026. I’m rocking 500mb symmetrical on a modern iphone and it still takes 10-15 seconds for the app to load a workout (which is just text). The only reason i use this app now is because i have a coach which adds workouts for me and they use this for the other athletes and won’t switch. As a standalone athlete, sure, there are additional metrics that can help training (premium only) but the actual insights from those metrics can be found in ANY of your other fitness apps these days.
Don’t waste your time or money, they certainly don’t value it.

Horribly Slow
This app must have a memory leak or something because once it’s been open for 1 or 2 minutes it’s so slow that it takes over 20 seconds to register a single tap. I have to force close and restart it 5 or 6 times just to finish writing a note about a workout for my coach.
Slow/freezing
This app has become terrible to use for strength workouts. Trying to enter weight and reps the UI gets frozen.
Garmin
It no longer syncs with Garmin devices. Seeing as this is the top of the line device on the market, seems weird the app would stop working with it and nobody would do anything about it. And don’t even try troubleshooting the problem, they have no idea what you are even talking about. Seems like a poor business decision but to each their own.
No problems until 12/15 update
Training Peaks and Garmin are not communicating anymore.
Just not a good app
Workout uploads never work (yes I keep the app open in the foreground) they’ve recently update the UI but the UX is still trash. Just because it’s the original doesn’t mean you should keep using it. Glad to have canceled my premium subscription
Charged for services that should’ve been free
I joined a cycling coaching club…part of joining that club was getting a free TrainingPeaks premium account. Also part of the club was to do a MAP test which was part of the training peaks subscription, but I was charged $106 for the one test which should have been free. Neither the cycling club or training peaks has rectified this situation.
Glitchy
App stops working randomly. Shows login screen. Login does not work( right credentials). Then few hours later app is logged in shows all activities.
Unusable due to mandatory bulk spam
Even if you’re signed up as an annual subscriber, if you enable notifications, TP spams you with ads to purchase future years of the service into 2028 and you can’t stop or disable these ads without administratively disabling notifications in iOS. I’m writing this review as a fully paid annual subscriber having gotten spammed 7 times in five days. Turning off notifications means you don’t get notifications when your coach messages you, one of the primary purposes of the platform. I just gave my coach my email and we agreed to mostly ignore TP except for data. Filed a support request and got no relief from spam. If you decide to sign up know what you’re getting into.
Update from developer response - yes, you can adjust your notification settings, and even with all spam turned off, the stream of spam from this app is constant and unrelenting. I just got hijacked by an in-app popup today to some TP virtual web page. It’s truly awful and getting worse not better. And you can’t turn it off.

Free is alright; paid is not worth it.
I’ve been using Training Peaks for about two years now. It’s barely functional. Non-intuitive. Wanted to switch my workout plan around for different days within the same week so I switched to the paid plan. Ultimately, I regret it. It will allow you to work ahead in the week, but only if you execute the workout on rest day. If there is a different planned workout on the day you swap, it will show you as having missed one of the two workouts, even if you eventually accomplish both. I’m literally only staying on it because it’s what my trainer uses to plan my workouts.
Missing functionality
App (including Training Peaks Virtual) seems to have significant technical debt and lack of functionality like pairing with Strava and Garmin. App works well to receive workouts from my coach.
Horrible performance
The app has become unusable due to performance issues. Workouts barely load. Navigation freezes the app. Videos take a long time to play and can’t be rotated without breaking the app layout and loosing the state of the video.
A paper notebook is now better.

No ability to edit structured workouts
I’ve been a TP user for years and a fan of the service generally. That there is no ability to edit a structured workout on a mobile device is a big disappointment.
Underwhelming
Ok I have it to use training peaks virtual. But what’s with the scheduling gimmick? I want an easier way to load routes and select from a route library shared from my team. What this app offers is not clear to me.
Okay - videos hardcoded for phone resolutions, not iPad? Still a year later
Basic functionality is fine. Videos, though, appear be positioned and sized for phones, so on iPad are almost unusable - for example, height of video on iPad is about 1/4 of actual video so badly cut off.
Update: A year later (2026) and iPad videos are still unusable. On my newer iPad Pro the videos are now playing off the screen. Training Peaks never responded to my bug reports. And recorded strength training still can’t be paired with planned strength training….

Clunky UI
UI is clunky and requires a learning curve that is unnecessarily steep. Also this app cannot coexist with other workout apps nor are transfers to Apple Watch smooth. There’s also no flexibility at all…they expect users to use this as their single source of truth for workouts. I’m in a group training for a marathon but not always follow every run as planed. On 1/1 I did a an easy run and today on 1/2 I wanted to do the run my coach originally scheduled for 1/1, but the app won’t allow me to do that. Furthermore, it’s actually considering yesterday’s run as the run scheduled by my coach although I did something completely different. No sense at all. I can’t even redo the run nor can I transfer it to my Apple Watch as the app believes it’s already been completed. I’m deleting this app after the marathon.
