Worst Redesign Ever!
Horrible new layout. Difficult to navigate and unsure of when searching and selecting tickers!! Terrible design! Return to the original layout AND you can no longer choose the seats you want??

Like most things Italian, it doesn’t work. Took the time to download the app and register an account only for it to not let you select a departing or arriving location. I’m surprised Italy has survived as long as it has as a nation. They’re so far behind in technology it’s amazing they’re able to accomplish anything on a daily basis.

Horrible Customer Service
The customer service at Trenitalia is severely lacking. Their policy only allows ticket purchases up to 5 minutes before a train’s scheduled departure. I arrived at the station at 6:12 to buy a ticket to FCO airport for the 6:16 train, which was delayed until 6:21. However, the app wouldn’t let me buy the ticket due to the 5-minute rule. Instead, I purchased a ticket for the next train at 6:31, which was also delayed by 5 minutes. When the 6:16 train arrived at 6:21, I boarded it, as there were plenty of empty seats. A staff member scanned my ticket and informed me I was on the wrong train. They demanded I pay an additional €5 or get off and wait for the 6:31 train. I explained that the train was late, there were ample seats, and the delay wasn’t my fault, but the staff was unyielding. Trenitalia showed no flexibility and forced me to get off the train.
TERRIBLE APP!
Like the worst app I’ve ever used. So frustrating!! I was able to create a login but it NEVER finds my paid ticket -even after I’ve just purchased it. You’re better off using the website where it does find the reservation. I hope the train service is waaaay better than this app!? Fingers crossed.
Buyer Beware!
I’m traveling to Italy for the first time, and I pre-purchased all my tickets with TrenItalia. I’ve had 2 of my 3 itineraries with issues. Use .italio instead. Better service!!!
App won’t work
You download the app, but the when I try and register, it says I’ve been denied access that I don’t have permission to access this app on the server I’m using, which is my iOS Apple phone. Maybe someone can tell me what I may be doing incorrectly.
You can’t search
You literally can not search a city l, once you click the suggestions it just disappears, meaning you can’t purchase tickets, meaning this app is useless.
Frustrating App/Fails 90% of Time
After the headache inducing multistep process of downloading app and logging in, app worked the first two times (luckily I had purchased my tickets via the website and had email confirmations) and now all I get is a message saying I am restricted from accessing. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and can get to the login screen but when entering my login credential I get the same restriction message. I feel this is on purpose to force foreigners to use the more expensive (but workable) 3rd party booking sites.
Not refundable - even during a strike
Trenitalia claims it provides refunds during strikes (8 May 2025), but the app does not support it for most cases. You have to make a trip to their service booths, and even then they are not helpful. If you have to take the train, you have to take the train, but if you can avoid any pre-planning on Trenitalia, wait until last minute so they don’t steal your money.
Can’t access in the United States on Cox internet and can’t buy tickets
Looked at multiple message boards like Reddit and multiple people in the US can’t access the website or the app using Cox Internet (got access denied errors). Switched over to cellular and was able to register and log into the app. However, I tried to purchase tickets for an upcoming trip and kept getting error messages without any explanation. Please fix the app!

Doesn’t show dates of trains
When searching for a train the app provided me options without specifying they were for THE DAY AFTER the date I searched for. Bought tickets for the subsequent day and the first indicator of that was on the receipt after my purchase. 100€ down the drain.

My friends from Japan cannot download it, cannot even find it on search. I called assistance but they said they need to sign in with an italian email??!! How can they do that with iphone? nobody knows,, less than useless

This app has serious flaws. The search function doesn’t work correctly. You put in a train station. It allows. You select it and doesn’t retain it. The validation is bad and the password system is idiosyncratic at best.

Near impossible to find stops
I search for "ivrea" and nothing comes up - "Ivrea" on the other hand, works. You've got to be kidding me. I couldn't find the airport stop & that's when I gave up and used the Trenìt! app: worked like a charm - autocompletes the station you're looking for, etc

Search function broken. You can’t actually look up any train stations. What is the point of this app?
Absolutely Disgusting
Teenitalia cancelled 4 of our trains in a single day. While traveling from Milan to portofino, Trenitalia provided 0 service but continued to accept payment. We had a train scheduled for 12, for which we arrived at the station at 11am. Trenitalia first delayed the train and then cancelled it. So we purchased tickets for the 1 pm train. Trenitalia proceed to do the exact same thing- delay and then cancel. They repeated this for both the 2 and 3pm trains. We ended up having to pay for a taxi which was around 450 euros to travel from Milan to portofino. Trenitalia offered zero refunds and made us submit a form online to request a review. We submitted the form and Trenitalia still refused to pay us back. We ended up having to file a complaint from our credit card provider. Trenitalia then went to challenge the compliant from our credit card provider.

Not a great app
I will be using Trainline or Rome to Rio app from now on. I had a difficult time trying to change the time on on of my trains so I had to totally cancel, pay a penalty then go to Trainline to rebook. Now I changed the time on another one if my trains but while the app says that I can change the time on the connecting train, it won’t let me click on my name to complete the change. Never using this app again!!! Use Trainline.
Just buy at station
App allows them to just take your money and if you ask for a refund for a common mistake by a tourist, they just copy and paste policy and procedures.
United States is not listed
Trying to register with this app so I can purchase tickets. Country of origin does not list United States or America. Also the password will not allow you to fill out the spaces even with the required characters. Very frustrating and annoying

Buggy
Selected date and times of preferred travel. Clicked on the “i” (information) symbol to get details on the stops. Times displayed in the detail are different than for the trip I wanted details for and app changed selection of preferred times of travel.

Fails at the most basic things
When I launched this app for the first time, it asked that I create an account. I went to some trouble to do so. After finishing the process, apparently successfully according to the final screen and the email I received, I found I was not signed in to my new account in the app. Tried to sign in, and it said credentials were not valid.

Never works
This app does not work more then it does. Arrive at stations early and wait for a broken machine for one hour is your only choice.
Don’t bother
A waste of time and your money. Never works and can never log in or pay. Then you get charged but no tickets. Itali at its best!
Worthless
If you are from the United States don’t bother downloading. Registration requires selecting your country of origin, but the drop down box doesn’t have USA listed. Hence, you can’t register. An INFO button says you can use their website to register unlisted countries, but that drop down box doesn’t list USA either. I deleted the app.

Avoid Trenitalia whenever possible
Zero customer support. They refuse to refund ticket purchases after cancelling their train, leaving me stranded, and out 360€. Basically a scam company with zero respect for their riders. Try Italo or anyone else when possible.

It is really super annoying that I cannot book a train within five minutes of departure. If I can do it from a machine, I should be able to do it from the app.
Password glitch
This app made me change the password every time I wanted in. Finally just deleted it.
Generates wrong dates
I bought 4 different journeys from this app and the dates are all correct on the main page but when the actual ticket is opened the dates are all a day in advance!!!! I’ve contacted them and have been waiting for them to fix the dates it’s been 4 days and I check everyday nothing yet no updates!!!
No 12 hour time option
There’s no way to change the times shown in the app from 24 hours to 12 hours. It makes it very challenging for an American to travel in Italy. For a country that wants tourists to visit they are making it difficult for people to do so.
