Webtoons will gate some episodes behind ads. This would be fine, except the ads usually last 30 seconds or more and then roadblock you permanently. You'll get to a screen where you can 1) demo a mobile game, 2) install it, or 3) view it in the app store. There is no button to close the ad and proceed to the comic. No button appears no matter how long you wait. There is no button to report the dead-end ad, which is to say. Force-closing the app doesn't credit you for watching the ad. You're screwed.
This is, needless to say, 100% deliberate from Webtoons. They have opted to make some episodes inaccessible unless you pay, and the option to watch an ad instead isn't actually supposed to work.

Data pig! It ate 3.5 gigs of data in 3 days!
Don’t download this app! It will eat your data like nothing else. What is it doing in the background that it requires this much data? That’s concerning.
Horrendous
Horrendous is the only word i can use to describe every facet of webtoon. Yes there’s a few good stories but most are plagued with theft and AI translations. The monetization is so insanely scummy it’s unfathomable. The adult stories always stay at pg-13 due to their strict content policies but here’s a constant stream of ads about gambling. The content filters are based in Korean that runs an English translator so ridiculous words like “obtained, misunderstanding, and sudden” violate their ai moderator but comments with curse words needs to be reported before being removed. I used to have a giant thread here going over each individual problem that i kept returning to because it seems like every couple of months they decide to update or make changes that keep worsening the experience for readers and content creators alike. At least shonen jump goes through editors AND fan surveys before deciding what series continue to go on. It’s also cheaper than webtoon with bigger and more grandiose stories. Is now when i should mention that webtoon authors have been caught time and time again tracing manga panels?
Do you like ads?
The ads and greed have been getting worse. Now they put finished series behind a pay wall so if you don’t read week to week you will come back to a surprise. But what really inspired me to write a review is that if I lock my phone with the app open, sometimes it will just load an ad and start playing with volume while locked
Sign up / Sign in flow doesn’t work
I tried my best to use this app, but the sign up flow just didn’t work. Email confirmation was flaky, and the sign in eventually just errored out. I’m not perfect, but i am tech literate and can usually create an account on a website … in this case i think it may be the app’s fault. Save yourself 15 minutes and check if they’ve fixed these issues before downloading.

The book reading to us
OK, so lately I downloaded this app and the some books are read it to us and I love that picture but there’s every single book that I click on. There’s the option of reading but not listen to it and I’m more of a listener instead of a reader, because when I read. And when I listen to, I understand everything that I’m reading and that option isn’t available therefore I’m giving it a one star
Stealing coins!!!
I had 5 coins. I spent $4.99 on coins which is 50 coins plus 2 which is 52. Then I won 13 free coins but when I check my coins I only had 63 coin so I missing 7 coins. I wonder how long this been going on !! I WANT MY COINS NOW !!

The app used to be great to read comics and enjoy the variety of stories. Now you have very limited access to most stories, they cost 7 coins per episode and the only way to get more is by either reading a comic that you might not be interested in for 5 coins, play games to win coins, buy coins regularly, or buy a subscription to get a monthly set of coins. Whatever case you choose the coins are limited and they can’t be used if they expire so good luck trying to get through any story in a reasonable amount of time.
Does it let you change your age
The first thing I’m mad about is that there’s no December which is my birthday so I had to lie about my birth month because I wouldn’t let me choose December and apparently I’m too young to watch a specific thing even though I’m 13 and I gotta contact customer support just to change my age. I wish I could enjoy this, but I can’t. I’m too young to watch a show. I wanna watch and I can’t put my birth month because you know December.

What is happening to WEBTOON
Look, don’t get me wrong, I love WEBTOON. I use is everyday to read stories. The updates, yeah they bother me but what can I do. I’m just going to read my comic. But this new update. So unnecessary, the layout is awful. Why change so many things about this app when it doesn’t need to be fixed or when nobody asked for it. I swear they are purposely trying to lose people. I could mention all the other updates that are wrong. But I think we all know what’s poorly going on here. But nonetheless I’ll keep reading and supporting the creators.
Great, except for finished series.
The current business model is too greedy when it comes to finished series. You can only read a few of them (less than ten in a 200 episode series) and then you have to either pay to read other chapters or watch an ad for each individual chapter to unlock it for three days.
I’m fine with the temporary unlock, but having to go through a 30 second ad for every chapter past 7 makes the reading experience unbearable, especially when the system doesn’t recognize the ad and I have to watch it multiple times in a row (with my current record being 4).
