BIG ISSUE
I canceled my Apple Music subscription because I wanted to go back to YouTube Music and I already knew this was gonna be a problem just as it was last time when I tried to subscribe to just the single person subscription. It doesn’t allow me to every single time I tried to press the button to pay. It doesn’t allow me to and I have no way of fixing it but of course it allows me to pay for the $25 family subscription which is BS.

App is carried heavily by its catalog of music, videos, and of course, YouTube access. However, the app itself could be heavily improved to not drain battery, start/stop music randomly, or simply improve the UI to be user friendly. The download feature is poor, making it hard to access when offline. Even when you’re able to access it, all the downloads take forever to load. You’ll have to constantly open and close this app for it to work. Do better YouTube, you’re a billion dollar company.

New update
YouTube music is great but ever since the new update it’s just been so random. It doesn’t recommend me music that is related gives me a whole different recommendations which I hate because it doesn’t even give me the option to find music related to add to the queue. I really hate the new update I have premium, I would give it a 5 star but ever since the update it just downgraded.

YouTube music is a scam
I’ve been using YouTube music for the past seven years and overall, I am very deeply disappointed, and also feel taken advantage of. The first two years from 2018 to 2020 were great, a free trial promo got me into paying monthly until I cut it. Ever since using the free version since 2020 I’ve seen and observed some very concerning and also disappointing incidents that will happen. The first thing is that if you do not pay for the YouTube music premium YouTube music will occasionally shut off your screen while you’re listening to music. If you’re not aware, you cannot listen to the music if your screen is off. Also the app will usually not allow you to actually view the song you were on until you swipe down and then swipe back up to look at what’s up next. I like to listen to music while I drive but if I have to be on my phone to just play the music I want, it creates a hazard and it has been happening to me in 2020 to 2025. Just recently as well I’ve been clicking on the speed dial, which includes all the normal songs that you frequently listen to, and it will tell me everything that I click on is unavailable and play another song instead of the one I wanted to listen to. It’s almost as if nobody manages this app for bugs or any fixes and essentially does not care about their YouTube music premium members. If you’re looking for a app that is going to be more of a nuisance than a tool to you, YouTube music is that app and you will be blown away on how horribly taken care of it is. Just in case Spotify offers a way to transport your playlists. That’s the only reason I didn’t leave years before because I didn’t know that was an option. Fix your app YouTube!!

Ive been using yt music for a while now but its horrible you have to pay a subscription just to use it without your phone being on their membership is so expensive and Spotify doesn’t spam you with ads unlike yt music. Spotify is just a much more efficient and reliable option
Why in the hell is there? No free background play on a Music app?
I go to turn off my phone to play some music and the background play is not working because I have to pay for a damn subscription and I can’t use background play for free like every other streaming service
The worst music app ever
It literally defies the point of a music app. It doesn’t let you listen to music with turning off the app. Spotify is 100 times better and your better off getting it. Yt got too greedy for their own food and made a app that works like the opposite of what it should, like who would listen to music without ever turning their phone off? It makes you pay for a premium subscription to listen.

Pay $35 from $30 a month. Get songs that won’t go to the next and it goes quirt and I get songs that want to start playing as a video. Wtf

Latest update completely broke shortcuts. You can create them still from within the app settings but they all fail when you try to use them

You can no longer ask Siri to play YouTube Music, it responds with “I’m sorry, I’m having a problem with that, please try again later.”
where is everything?
do you suppose that perhaps you could figure out how to make all the songs in a playlist actually play at some point before you just stop it and say ok that’s all there is to see here? or maybe you could arrange for the shuffle button to actually play songs in something resembling random order. i understand these are big asks (?) but maybe we could work on the basic elements of functionality that LITERALLY every other streaming platform has been able to figure out FOREVER. for christ sake.
Update broke the app on CarPlay
I use YouTube music as it comes with YouTube premium. Usually it works pretty good but each update seems to break the app. This newest update messed with the CarPlay feature. Now, if you try to play a song through Siri, YouTube music does not function whereas it used to in the past. It’s pretty annoying as this most recent update also changed the format for absolutely no reason and made it worse than before.

This app is trash. Music constantly pauses in the middle of songs on iPhone. When I try to shuffle playlists, it will stop after 1 song, then I have to press shuffle again to play a new song, then it will stop again… over and over and over… I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling, signing out, and other settings on my iPhone as suggested online. “We update constantly”… no update notes specifying what bugs they “fix”. Will be switching music apps, I’ve been dealing with this for months with no “fix” from their “constant updates”
Way, way too many probs
How does such a popular app with the resources of Google behind it stay this buggy, especially on a platform as significant as the iPhone? There are so many times this thing breaks, especially on CarPlay (the primary way I use it). So many times I am told “oops there was an error”, or that the controls don’t work, or that I request a song and it plays something completely irrelevant. And why play me special mix from a soundtrack or a greatest hits album and not just play the original album track? Why are some albums missing tracks?
The main thing keeping the service strong is its connection to YouTube. At the same time, it’s a weakness. Ultimately, there’s just not the same level of innovation, or quality control, going on here that other streamers provide.

You F’d it Up
I’ve loved this app for years. Then a few months ago the download function bugged out and was never fixed. I’ve tried numerous work arounds and they still find a way to screw it up. I’ll be looking for a different app.
Why are you people greedy
I’m trying to listen to music with my phone off but every time I do it pauses and requests me to use YouTube music premium like let me listen without it

Gave it a shot since it’s included with YT premium, but boy does this app suck. Artist Subscriptions clutter my actual YouTube subscriptions and don’t actually do anything, music stops playing when opening other apps for no reason.

Bluetooth and Apple CarPlay Borked
So the recent update has made it so that anything utilizing Siri, whether through CarPlay or Bluetooth gives out a generic error. Sucks paying for a service that now doesn’t work. This is on a fully up-to-date as of this review, iPhone 16 Pro Max
Terrible Operating and User Interface
This app works very poorly with Apple Carplay, the menu options are not intuitive and take forever to load- both when connected to CarPlay and just on my phone normally. The app also randomly pauses the music and cannot fathom the idea of me getting a phone call while I’m listening to music- the app crashes. Moving to Tidal soon. Also, YouTube is owned by Google, which is going down soon too.

The same music always plays on a loop.
No matter how many times you turn on shuffle mode, YouTube always plays the same songs. I have an extensive music list, and without even playing through the whole playlist, it goes back and repeats songs that have already played.
Amazing monetization
An amazing app, even overtaking pandora, slack, etc. until you notice the monopoly aspect. Don’t get me wrong. I’m still subscribed as you will be too.

Worse than regular YouTube
Sure this app has everything, but the ads are so terrible. Much more ads than normal YouTube and completely unskippable. Like it will play a whole freaking infomercial with no option to skip it at all.

It's just showing nothing to me
This app sucks.
Oh so apparently BACKGROUND PLAY is a premium feature. Literally Spotify, an app I don’t use much at all, comes installed free with that feature just like any normal music streaming app should. The algorithm is terrible, and if you’re looking to have an automatically generated sleep music queue, be prepared to get woken up by some heavy metal. I could rant for hours about how much I hate this app.

Idk if it’s a bug or something but it won’t let me play new songs it keep saying, something went wrong retry and I’m connected to WiFi and everything. No Way y’all upped the price for premium and the app barely works.

Would be a great music app if my songs actually were there half the time if I look up an artist it’ll say they only have one song & I have to wait hours for it to refresh & the whole discography be there. Then when I open my playlist half the songs I’ve added to it just disappear & I can’t read add them cause it says the songs already in my playlist even tho it’s not there & I can’t even play it. So annoying fix this. Yall make enough to not have this problem.

CarPlay issues
CarPlay is almost unusable with YouTube music. The data loads extremely slow on every screen. This is not the case with the same phone/car with other music apps. This issue gas become worse and worse over the last few months

Music suggestions are terrible, same songs over and over again, I can’t discover new music with this app. Also I can’t find the “start radio by song” feature anymore so I’m stuck with my playlist and can’t even skip songs when listening to them!
