I know this is a known issue and Nanit seems to not care enough to fix it over the years we have used the product. No longer any excuse to leave it this way in the days of Claude Code.

Force subscription
Be aware, they say a subscription is not needed, but they’re UX flow forces you to sign up for one then you need to log into their website in order to cancel it. That’s a horrible UX pattern that is confusing and meant to trick people into signing up.

This is a long standing issue across Reddit. If you search for Nanit app opens by itself, this will show up. The developers have not solved this for a year.
This happens so regularly now that my iPhone battery cycles have gone in the red. This is a MAJOR issue.
On top of that, the phone creates a feedback loop when I’m in the same room with the child. It has woken up the baby more times than I can count.

For starters, the video stream has never worked properly in a browser. On top of that, the iPhone app frequently fails to connect, and when it does connect, the feed often freezes without warning. On multiple occasions, I thought my baby was sleeping peacefully because the image appeared completely still, only to realize later that the app had frozen and was no longer showing a live feed.
As someone who is comfortable with computers, networking, and troubleshooting technology, I can confidently say the problem isn’t user error. A baby monitor should be one thing above all else: reliable. Nanit has failed at the most basic function of its product.
When parents are relying on a monitor to check on their child, frozen video feeds and constant connectivity issues are more than frustrating, they’re a safety concern. I have completely lost confidence in this product and will be replacing it with a more dependable monitor as soon as possible.

Used to be the best
Used to be the best baby monitor out there. Did not have any issues for probably 6 months. Couldn’t believe how reliable it was. Now it repeatedly has issues connecting to the camera and maintaining connection. Despite frequent app updates, resetting our WiFi, etc. Our owlet is more reliable and that is such a low bar. Please do better or at least justify the malfunctioning if it is security-related.
Good when it works
It’s great 98% of the time. But every now and then it gives connectivity issues and gets choppy and freezes or cuts out completely. It always happens at night during bedtime and nothing else on our WiFi network has issues. That 2% really ruins it
Stay away
Do yourself a favor and stick with a device that connects via Bluetooth or has a dedicated screen. We have had nothing but problems setting this supposedly high end camera up. Go on a trip? Use the stand and configure the connection a thousand times before it magically works. Come home from the trip? SAME ISSUE, come on it’s 2026, connecting to this expensive pos should be the easy part. Lastly most of the features are locked behind a paywall, not worth the premium, save your money for a trip with your family.
Compared to a normal web cam, this has abysmal performance
Honestly shocked at this app receiving 4+ stars. It constantly disconnects. It has ridiculous delays. No matter what network I have it connected to. This is significantly less reliable than a normal WiFi web cam.
Keeps crashing in the middle of the night!!!!
In the past week, the app has disconnected from the camera several times in the middle of the night. Not only that, it kept crashing and logged me out in the middle of the night. How can I possibly rely on this??? What if my baby was crying and I couldn’t hear them across the house??? It is SO FRUSTRATING. Replacing this with Infant Optics IMMEDIATELY. Other parents beware!
horrible app
The connection on this app is absolutely horrible. I live in a small townhouse and it is constantly struggling to “get video stream” through the wifi. There are bug fixes and updates every other day that honestly seem to make the app worse. If I could go back i’d get a non wifi camera for 1/4 of the price.
Glitchy for an expensive app
This app is so glitchy lately I hate it. It constantly freezes when I switch between viewing kids, when I go to a split screen mode, etc. The Insights were also very inaccurate when I had the free trial so I have no idea why I’d pay for an expensive subscription for something that I imagine is somehow using AI and doing a terrible job at it. Now I just have the “subscribe to Insights” text that is very annoyingly in the way on split screen mode especially and that, I imagine, is a sleazy way to get subscribers who just want that to go away so there’s an unobstructed view of their babies. If I could go back, I would never have splurged on these cameras. They are very much not worth it, especially for twins where you’d have to pay for two overpriced subscriptions for it to be usable.

Nanit has jumped the shark.Typical pivot to a tiered plan where most of the capabilities are locked behind the most expensive one.
What’s most egregious is the fact that each camera you own needs its own subscription to avail more advanced features.
You’d think the kicker is the money grab. That’s partially true, but the real insult is that that the platform isn’t any faster, nor is the hardware any better, despite the increased costs.
The audio continues to be weak. App load times and video lag is still real. The video feed is good, but not good enough to warrant the additional costs.
I refuse to continue to give nanit another cent until they show that additional value comes with additional costs.

The Nanit has been nothing but a headache after we have invested thousands of dollars and have TWO cameras. It is NOT user friendly and despite paying over $120 PER CHILD per year they continue to limit features. The camera qualities also suck. SAVE YOUR MONEY.
Stuck in a loop
I tried traveling with this thing and when I set it back up to pair with my internet back home I get stuck in this endless loop of the onboarding images. The second I think I’m done with it, I’m forced to swipe through it again and again. I need to delete the app and re download it.
New logo is awful…

Awful
Absolutely awful. The ability to connect to the microphone to talk through it works maybe 20% of the time. I have 3 of these and they are absolutely awful, run far away, use a competitor. I’m literally typing this as we speak because my child is screaming and I can’t address them because the microphone won’t connect. Trash, absolute trash product.

The logo has always been pink now it’s blue on blue and doesn’t pop out anymore.

The metric data as far as time in bed wake up and go to sleep is always in accurate. They do give you the option to edit it, but even when you edit it, it doesn’t update. You also can’t properly send reports of Nanit not working because clicking “submit report” causes the app to crash.
Also I paid for the video history, and that’s incredibly glitchy. Also why is there no button to watch in 2x speed? That’s a very basic feature. Especially with the analytics so inaccurate, I’m always having to watch the video history to see when she actually woke up, but I have to watch in real time because the video scrubbing feature doesn’t work properly either.

It’s generally fine but has one major flaw that Nanit won’t disclose but you should know: turning on “background audio” doesn’t only mean the audio will keep playing while the phone is asleep or you’re doing something in another app. It also means Nanit can restart the audio after you close the app, without warning and without any way to even know it’s happening. And it only happens sometimes, not every time. It will run down your battery and burn through your data if you’re not on WiFi, and you won’t even know if your volume is low or you’re in a loud environment.
I just spent months trying to get Nanit to address this. They finally acknowledged it happens but aren’t disclosing it and are spinning it as a feature to improve “reliability.” You be the judge of that. We will not be renewing our subscription.

Good when it actually works
Used it for about 6weeks. After numerous times of it cutting out even though our WiFi was still working we decided to go with a different product. Cost does not equal quality or reliability. Cannot recommend.
Nanit has a monopoly and it sucks
I love it and I hate it. I love the data it gives me, but it’s SUCH A PAIN TO USE. The app crashes all the time, turns off in the middle of the night. It’s impossible to use while traveling. I really really hate it. But it’s basically the only wifi camera on the market with the features I want. I have spent so much freaking time troubleshooting this dang camera in the past year.
Loved Old Version
I absolutely love the old version of nanit. I do not like the latest two updates. I miss seeing the nap snapshot on the main page. Now I have to dig through to find the nap summary to see how long they napped for and the times. I will change my review back to 5 Star if things change back or update to something better.
